Stew and Ruth were lovely hosts with an equally lovely property.
They accommodated our needs, from providing a cot and other baby items to drawing local maps and arranging a wonderful evening of wine tasting.
The house has all you could need and we enjoyed exploring the grounds and eating figs fresh from the trees.
The Abruzzo area was beautiful and we explored the mountains and visited the coast, which were both within easy reach of the property.
Casa del Fiume lived up to our expectations in every way, peaceful location, beautiful house in beautiful surroundings.. It is possible to spend hours exploring the gardens, cooling of in the river, swinging in the hammocks between the walnut trees.
For more adventurous days there are lots of interesting villages to visit and walks in the Majella national park. Stewart and Ruth were friendly and helpful and keen for us to make the most of our stay giving us lots of information about the local area.
There are wonderful beaches about 30 minutes drive from the house. Make sure you have room in your suitcases to bring home a few bottles of the excellent wine from the local vineyard. A trip there is a must not just to taste the wine, there is a most amazing view from the azienda across the valley and the hills beyond.
We spent two weeks and loved every minute. It's quiet and beautiful. The region is stunning and the people very welcoming and kind.
There are plenty of places to visit but you need a vehicle. Driving was an experience as it's a mountainous area however all our excursions were well worth while as views are to die for.
Ruth and Stuart are amazingly welcomeing and knowledgable. Their home and grounds are just stunning at night and day and alive with nature.
It's a wonderful retreat for peace and quiet and to get insomuch with nature.
Had two wonderful weeks here, stunning scenery, beautiful accommodation and excellent hosts in Stewart and Ruth. They could not do enough for us to make our stay pleasurable and provide us with a home from home.
The location in Abruzzo is amazing, lots of things to do, places to go with excellent cafe's, restaurants, beautiful historic towns and the most friendly people you could imagine.
The accommodation is first class with all mod cons, even good WiFi. The gardens leads to a river and national park. We finished our day either sitting with a cool glass of local wine or resting in a hammock and enjoying the the peace and tranquility. We would definitely visit again.
We really enjoyed our 5 nights at Casa del Fiume in the beautiful hills of Abruzzo.
The house is large, nicely decorated and furnished and each room is well equipped with everything you could need, particularly the provision of a cot, high chair and stair gate is perfect for families.
The large grounds and river at the bottom of the garden are pleasant to walk and play in, although the weather the week we visited didn't allow much of this.
Stewart and Ruth were wonderful hosts, and provided really good advice on places to visit, restaurants to try and events happening in the local area.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to return.
The place itself is idyllic, nestled between river and mountain and not far from the sea. What made a real difference was Stewart's and Ruth's wealth of local knowledge; the best walks, the best places to visit, the best beach and the best food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will surely visit again.
We stayed in Casa del Fiume for a week at the start of July, and left wishing we'd booked it for longer. It's difficult to say which was the best feature - the house or the amazing grounds (garden doesn't really cover it!). The pretty house is immaculately finished: think thick stone walls, chalky whitewash, original artworks and super-comfy beds with good quality bed-linen to keep you cool at night. Modern and effective windows behind pretty original shutters meant air-con not needed to stay comfortable. Only downside is the single bathroom, but that didn't bother us at all.
The grounds are AMAZING!! if you're looking for a peaceful haven, this is it, with plenty of different areas (woodland, lawn, river) for chilling in hammocks, on loungers or on rocks in the river, amongst clouds of butterflies, with ever-present birdsong, and barely a man-made sound to be heard. We 'lost' hours sitting, snoozing and reading hear. Lovely outdoor cooking and eating area too.
Thanks to Ruth and Stu who were the best of hosts, so well connected into the local community....they make great bread and jam too!
