Hi all me and my wife stayed at the Sofitel Paris La Defense just before Christmas and I have to say it was a great stay.
I read a review that the staff could not speak English however I found all the members of staff to be fluent in English even the maid!
Paris is brilliant at Christmas time putting my city of London to shame and the La Defense area is thankfully away just enough from the crazy champs elysees but not too far.
The biggest shopping centre in paris is 5min walk away so not to far from civilisation.
If I have anything negative to say then its the price of the room service... 27Euros for a burger...gulp!!!
But then again it is a 5star hotel so it will have 5star prices...
PS the bed was awesome :-)

Lovely modern hotel with a very smart finish. Beautiful bathroom with enormous bath and walk in shower, robes and slippers although we had the room upgrade.

The bed was absolutely incredible, beyond describing!

Great service, Consierge booked a restaurant for us, drink in the bar was lovely although some may say expensive.

Right next to Esplinade La Defense which takes you in on Ligne 1 to Charles De Gaulle Etoile within a few minutes from where you can access anywhere on the Metro for 1.27€ a journey. For tourists don't be put off by the location being the business end of town, the views straight down to the Arc De Triompe and of the Eiffel Tower are amazing and everywhere else can be accessed so easily via Metro.

We've spent a weekend in this hotel in Paris. The rooms are quite large (to Paris standards), and very clean and well equipped. Unfortunately the restaurant and bar are just mediocre. This might have been the consequence of visiting in the weekend, whilst the hotel is in a business district.

The location was great to my likings, but not everyone will like it. It's several kilometers out of the center, and you have to take the subway to get anywhere. The district is just dead at night in the weekends, which can get a little bit creepy.

The valet parking is great, but it's quite hard to find your way in the subterrean maze of highways. I've spent 45 minutes looking for it. The great "plus" is they even cleaned my car during my stay.

Having lived in Paris for 4 months and having spent many holidays there, I must say this hotel is by far my favorite, and I'll come back certainly.

The Sofitel is a good option for the business traveler, who is unfortunate enough to have to spend nights in La Defense. This modern business district evacuates at the end of the business day and is essentially dead after about 5PM. It is located quite a way outside the heart of Paris, and you are looking at a 20 - 25 Euro taxi ride, or a 30 minute train ride to get to the core.

The hotel itself is well appointed and modern, although it tries a bit too hard to seem chic. When I arrived, my impression of the lobby was negative because it was too chic to be functional for business, with heavy plastic chairs, awkwardly low tables, and the out-of-place photos of questionably dressed young ladies. Perhaps I'm too stodgy... Also, the lobby and halls had a very strong fragrance which seemed to be trying to mask a heavy cigarette smell.

However, when I arrived in my room, my sense of order was appeased. The room was very well laid-out, well-lit and modern. Cabinetry was very stylish, with built-in plugs and internet ports - unfortunately no western outlets though. Panels hid a safe and a well-stocked minibar. A 32" flatpanel TV and Bose stereo system with Ipod dock were nice touches. My room had a king bed, with floor as well as personal reading lights controlled from a bed-side panel. The bedding and mattress were excellent. Desk and floor lamps provided ample light, and a large window provided lots of daylight, and actually opened to allow fresh air - again a nice touch. The bathroom was excellent. Stylish, with excellent lighting, large mirror and great shower area (no tub). I was also surprised with the excellent sound-proofing of the room. I slept like a baby...

The restaurant offered excellent dinner choices, including vegetarian options, as well as a winning wine and spirits selection. Typically French, the meal portions were 'just right' in size. The service was excellent.

I would recommend this hotel for business travel to La Defense, but if you are staying for an extended period of time and your schedule allows for sight-seeing, perhaps a more central location would be worth the trouble of having to travel to your meetings.
