Had to stay here as a matter of urgency, Sat 19th Oct '13 and most hotels in Chester were full. Whilst the entrance and public areas are nice and well presented behind the facade is a different matter. Going round the corner on the stairs I was confronted with a set of doors that looked as if they came out of a skip, bashed, chipped and grubby. The decor in the corridors wasn't much better, dark stained wood and very jaded. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the en suite nice and clean, but the room. One bedside light didn't work, the provided kettle had to be jiggled about to get it to work and stay on and the furniture was in desperate need of replacement. Fortunately I didn't need to phone reception because the bedside phone was so grubby yuo'd want to don rubber gloves before you touched it.
The buffet breakfast was fine, but nothing special.
I paid £127.50. £120 for the room and £7.50 for breakfast. £7.50 for breakfast is OK and par for the course, but the room was grossly overpriced. not worth more than £70 in its current state.
I can't comment on the Spa as I didn't use it, only staying one night.

We were greeted by very helpful friendly staff and found all the staff the same. We had a wonderful restful break and some superb meals. As other reviews say perhaps the hotel could do with some decoration, this did not take away from the quality and value of our break. We used the pool and can only say the leisure facilities were second to none. The owner was on site and made it his way to speak to all the guests - a very good customer relationship. Thanks to all at the Brook Mollington we can recommend you highly.

Room Tip: We were at the back of the hotel which was very quiet and overlooked the garden area. Room 36.

The good:
Staff were all really helpful, friendly and efficient.
The pool was reasonable.
Free bottled water in room (a small thing, but still nice).

The bad:
Hotel is very shabby. Wouldn't mind too much if it was just in need of a lick of paint, but it extended to the bed being broken; the heating in the bedroom not working, whilst the towel rail in the bathroom couldn't be turned off (and it was hot enough to burn!);
Overall hotel seemed quite dirty.
Lots of other small annoyances (only 1 bedside light, dripping taps; sink not draining; small double bed not queen- or king-size, no plug socket for in-room kettle, hotel info folder broken and missing most info) that individually feel like whining, but overall add up to a very poor impression.

The terrible:
The food! Breakfast was really below average, but the evening meal was appalling and one of us ended up with food poisoning to boot. Crockery and cutlery was often not clean.

We stayed at Mollington Banastre for my birthday. We were welcomed at reception by friendly staff and directed to our room. The room was large and very nice although the furniture and decoration were quite tired/shabby and in need of updating. Everything was clean and the super king bed was very comfy. We were so toasty overnight we had to open a window. The view of the gardens was lovely and we saw lots of bunny rabbits hopping about. We had drinks in the bar. We were a little disappointed with the drinks options as the hotel describes a 'cocktail' bar in its welcome book but actually only has 3 cocktails which are quite boring. There were also a group of 5 children who were very cute but were throwing board game peices around, shouting and playing/bashing the piano. In my opinion this area should be for adults only as it serves alcohol and there are other areas children could use. Also the piano could be locked to prevent the annoying noise as we were trying to enjoy our drinks. We had a lovely 3 course meal in the restaurant. The portions were huge. A previous review said the food is like chain pub food. We thought it was really nice and the options were quite varied and interesting. We would recommend the food there. Overall if the room was updated and the kids were moved away from the relaxing bar area it would have been a perfect stay. Thank you

We recently attended a charity event for are local hospice and told there would be refreshments available. On arriving at the hotel we were told to order from the bar, nobody was there to take orders as they still had breakfast serving. When we found a member of staff it then took another twenty minutes to bring the refreshments to us. After an hour or so we then tried again to get more refreshments from another room to which when purchased was cold. This didn't look well for the hospice as the hotel had offered to put this service on for them. Thankfully the hospice provided a good morning which made up for poor service from the hotel. Not a good impression from the hotel for somebody that had not been there before

In every hotel you need to know the good, the bad and the ugly without making too general opinion because probably of one incident, experience or raising your expectation beyond the realistic level. Although the expression you get what you pay for is valid , there are other factors in any hotel may or may not appeal to you than to others. This hotel is no exception and in fact the expression may apply to it more than other hotels we have visited so far, believe it ! My wife and I booked this hotel two days prior to our stay just for a standard double room, probably, but I sent a message to request if possible a nice view room etc due to a certain occasion, not too much just a quick short request as you do sometime. I got a very friendly personal call from the hotel a day before travel to say we would like to upgrade you to an executive room at no extra charge, they also followed it up with an email to confirm, we thought that was very nice of them and was not expected. The staff friendliness has been throughout the hotel especially the reception&management exceeded our expectations, simply lovely people. They also have complimentary hot drink , help yourself type, in the beautifully laid out huge and bright lounge with sofas and tables with one side long glass window overlooking the garden and open to a noise eating/restaurant area. Our executive room was nice, clean and spacious with traditional look to reflect the grade II old building style of the hotel. The traditional look runout throughout with antique furniture and a bit tired wallpaper on the walls, but for all fairness it did not bother us neither the old furniture who also require staining and update, it may bother others who look for a modern and better maintained building and contents. However, saying that if the hotel has maintained all old furniture and got rid off all this old wallpaper , it would expand their visiting numbers greatly. The gym was excellent and the spa area was good but another part ,like the sauna need to be fixed both the unisex and male ones, another maintenance problem I guess! Again it was not major problem for us because what they had was more than adequate for us to spend a couple of hours happily, including swimming. The restaurant area is very nice to sit in but unfortunately it does not coincide with the food served, nothing special about the food I am afraid to say and this is another area the hotel must pay attention to, however the breakfast was good and what you need facing the garden while eating, bright and pleasant atmosphere. The hotel also shows sport channel in the cafe near the spa facilities. If the hotel attends to the above points which they are not of great to deal with, their rating will shoot high. For us we liked it enough that we will definitely consider it for our next stay.

Room Tip: Old traditional heritage building, but bright and very pleasant , staff are brilliant. Maintenance r...

We stayed here the weekend just gone. Although we were able to use the spa facilities (pool, gym, sauna and jacuzzi) the treatments were expensive (no discount for those staying). The amount we paid was just for bed and not breakfast. The location is ok but as its outside of chester I thought they would have had more on offer.

We got a room and view nothing like what was described on the website! The hotel lacked character. When we did eat the plates and cups were dirty and I was not impressed at seeing people on track suits walking in and out the kitchen when we arrived!!
I would only recommend you to stay there only if you really need to!
