“Nice room but awful breakfast!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for one night (Friday) with my wife and two children. On arrival receptionist was very friendly and my wife informed her of her dairy intolerance, and asked if it would be possible to have some dairy free spread with breakfast to which we were told that wouldn't be a problem. Once in the room it was very spacious.and comfortable but did look a little tired not worth the rates they charge considering hotels close which we have stayed at close which have a far better standard of room. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were attending a family wedding but had booked for breakfast and upon arrival my wife informed the Maître'D of her request for dairy free spread. We were seated and she then informed that they had been to busy to sort out this request which I thought was a very poor excuse given they had plenty of notice to sort out this request. The high chair that was brought to us for my 7 month old son was disgusting looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. We both had the deluxe cooked breakfast which bland at best just no taste to it at all, black pudding was like rubber fried bread was awful and I've seen bigger cocktail sausages. All in all if you are planning to stay here I definitely recommend eating out there are lots of nice places close by.

The hotel sits in nice grounds with grassed areas outside the restaurant and lounge which is lovely especially for families with young children. The rooms are a good size and the beds very comfortable. The pool is a nice size and again great for kids. Gym not bad. I liked the seating area by the pool and outside areas to enjoy a little fresh air. On the down side there was a mess up with my booking when we arrived, but this was sorted out. The shower screen in my room had a dodgy seal which meant the bathroom floor was flooded every time we took a shower which was unpleasant. This has obviously been a problem for a for a while as the bath panel was blackened. The evening meal and breakfast were average quality. Drinks typical hotel prices - £12.75 for a gin and tonic and a glass of sparkling wine. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay but probably would n't return.

Room Tip: Classic doubles are a good size and I think all the rooms looked over the gardens.

I was originally booked in to stay at the Crabwell Manor but after a mix up with their online booking system the manager there booked me in at Craxton Wood for the night and even paid the difference as this room was more expensive!

The hotel has an air of pretension about it which is both daunting and unwelcoming. As as adolescent I was asked numerous snootily times "can I help you?" and then when I said I was a guest the staff quickly changed their attitude - something which isn't always the most welcoming.

The room itself wasn't like the manager uploaded photos on here (I don't know if they're in the process or redecorating or something?) but it certainly felt over priced. Beside the complementary bottle of water and the Corby trouser press there was nothing to distinguish this hotel from a Premier Inn. There was mould on the tiles and the overall atmosphere was very dated. The corridors had work carpets and there was a funny smell in them.

Dinner was nice and restaurant service was good although the toilets were located extremely far from the dining area and were so difficult to find that one member of my party had to be escorted to them! We paid for dinner included however this only coveted £25 per person (a quantity which could easily be used on one main course alone!

The "spa" facilities were disappointing as they provided little more than available at my local leisure centre - steam room, sauna and a swimming pool. Not quite what I was expecting for the price I paid.

Overall the Craxton Wood was a pleasant stay although the hotel was dated and in need of redecorating. However, it certainly was NOT worth the price and the atmosphere was pretentious and even uncomfortable at times.

Stayed on a saturday night just for a night away, the hotel grounds are lovley and quiet, sadly the rooms are a little dated especially the bathroom, but the bed was so comfy, the gym and spa facilities are lovley and relaxed, also the breakfast was very expensive for what it was it was very small and very few options although the staff were amazing and very polite, especially alice on reception she made the stay 10 times better than what it would of been she couldnt do enough for not only us but for other guests she dealt with.
I dont think i would stay again i would choose somewhere else

We had a enjoyable three night break in this lovely hotel in a great location. the staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble. the room was comfortable although it could have benefited with air conditioning. The food was of a high standard and the dining room was comfortable and overlooked the grounds. The swimming pool was very welcome and the staff were attentive. Nice bar and seating area although the drinks were very expensive. The location was brilliant for trips into North Wales and visiting Chester, Liverpool and Tatton Park for the flower show.

After reading a few poor reviews for this hotel I was concerned our stay might not be up to scratch especially as we had been recommended this hotel. Thankfully for us this certainly was not the case.

The head receptionist was fantastic, she was helpful when we needed directions and offered before being asked, to book taxis for us. She was attentive and very professional.

The room was a good size and very comfortable. There was a large wedding function taking place in the hotel however we never heard a thing and slept soundly which I usually find hard to do in hotels.

Breakfast in the morning was plentiful with a good selection.

I would say the room was probably a little more than we would normally pay but on this occasion well worth it.

Room Tip: Room 125 is well away from the function rooms and lovely and quiet.

Stayed 2 nights among a party of 70 and didnt hear any complaints thats quite a feat. The staff were all very well trained and the hotel functions very well. Breakfast was excellent with a cold buffet and waiter service. The Hotel is suited best of all to functions and weddings yet retains a level of service that would suit any traveller alone or a couple.
If I have to critic the drinks [wine especialy] are a little expensive and the rooms although large are on the dark side.

Room Tip: Peraphs away from the function rooms are best
