“Absolutely Awful”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

If you want to sit in a 1970s living room and have terrible food with appalling service then this is the place for you.
We waited 20 minutes before anyone attend to us. This was to be the style of service throughout.
The food was all mediocre to awful. Most was very over cooked or had been kept warm long enough to start curling up at the edges.
They brought us water in an old glass jug that looked as if it had been in service for 30 years. We had to ask for glasses to drink it from.
They never bothered to light the candle at our table.
On the table was an ancient stained silk rose in a grubby glass that contained mock water!
We ordered a bottle of wine but after the initial pouring out they never returned to top up our glasses.
Finally, when we paid with a card, the waitress walked off with, out of sight, and left it behind the bar for someone else to deal with it! I like to keep my card in sight all of the time!
We haven't eaten anywhere quite as bad as this in ten years.
Forget it.

“Terrible experience”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

To put this in bullet points -
1. Loud music and therefore diners had to talk loudly to be heard. Very noisy restaurant.
2. Empty candle holder and filthy ancient fake flowers on the table.
3. Service appallingly slow and dismissive.
4. Food pre-cooked and dried up when served.
5. Long wait for a drink and no offer to bring more drinks when we had finished our first drink.
6. Credit card taken away from us and put behind the bar until card machine available.

“A wonderful evening!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We visited Valentino's without a booking but they were happy to accommodate us. The restaurant has a lovely rustic, cosy ambience further enhanced by friendly and helpful staff. We ate from the set menu and were astounded at both the quality and price - excellent value. It was so refreshing to have our food served to us at the table and be able to select our dessert from a trolley rather than a plasic menu. Full marks Valentino's and see you again soon!

“Excellent food”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Valentino's were happy to take an advanced booking and then serve us before that time, due to our early arrival. The restaurant itself looks a bit like a 1970s living room (plus a few extra tables), There are all sorts of old items and pieces of art dotted around. Restaurant snobs would pick Valentino's to bits for being 'dated', but being normal diners we were there for the food rather than décor. Service here is friendly and fast and the food excellent. Bread is served before the main meal, as it should be in any Italian restaurant. The food itself is best described as Italian with a local twist. All of our main courses were very enjoyable and none of the potions were small. My only complaint is that a side order of vegetables had been left in the hot service area a little too long. It was slightly dry as a result.

By the time we had finished our main courses the restaurant was half full. It is clearly popular with the locals, and for good reason. Unfortunately we had to endure an old battleaxe ranting at one of the nearby tables at around this time, but the restaurant cannot be blamed. The desert trolley was exceptional, in fact probably better than the main course. I have never said that before. We all came away satisfied and the bill was not an unpleasant surprise either.

“Good family run Italian restaurant”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We were staying in a cottage in Carisbrooke for two weeks this summer and Valentino’s was just five minutes walk away and had been recommended by previous holidaymakers to the cottage. Having walked passed a few times in our first week, we could see it was popular both midweek and weekends, so decided to book an evening meal for our last night of the holiday.
The restaurant was half full when we arrived and a few more people arrived later, though it didn’t fill up. We received a friendly greeting and shown to our table.
The items on the menu reminded us of the sort of dishes that were on offer thirty years ago and included dishes cooked at the table (Steak Diane) and a sweet trolley. Nonetheless, the choices were good and there was something for everyone. Whilst waiting for our food, we were given a basket of bread and a large bottle of water.
Service was fairly relaxed and the food was plentiful and tasty. A couple of tables were celebrating birthdays and the waiters brought out a birthday cake for each one to a background tape of ‘Happy Birthday to you’ which was quite fun if a bit corny.
Not necessarily the best Italian meal we have had, but all in all, we had an enjoyable meal and would happily return if we holiday on the Island again.
