We stayed for one night (Wednesday) we called at the last minute to say we would be late, this was not a problem. When we arived we were greated in a very friendly manner; our luggage was taken to our room where we were told about the facilities which were first rate.

Not only was there a TV with DVD player but there was also a selection of DVDs, there was a selection of books including bedtime stories which would be great if you had small children with you. Not only was there tea and coffee facilities but the best biscuits I have tasted in a long time, (sorry but we ate all 5 packs)!!!! The milk was the little pots but we were told we could send down for fresh milk if we preferred.

The room was so clean I could have eaten off any surface if I so wished. Everyone was friendly, polite and incredibly helpful. We will return to The Countyman's Inn without even checking out any alternatives.

Lovely area, accomodation was very cosy, food excellent, locals friendly. The landlord, Tony was very down to earth, very polite and nothing was too much. Will definately be back later in the year.

Thank you for staying. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at THe Countryman's. We aim to be nothing more ( and certainly nothing less) than a traditional North Yorkshire village pub. Good beer, good food, a friendly welcome and a comfortable room.

We are glad we seem to have delivered all these at the time of your stay. Thank you.

Unless you like drinking until 1.30am with the locals.
We arrived for 2 nights at a 'peaceful country pub / hotel'. Tony was a convivial host, socalising with the locals happily from his bar stool, behind the bar with pint in hand. While we would agree that the food from the restaurant was superb, it was quite possibly the worst 2 nights 'sleep' that we have ever had. As well as having a room above the gents toilet (automatic flush on the urinals) the walls were so thin that we could have a conversation with the nice couple next door without opening the door. The 'en-suite' had not been modernised, and was not even clean. Again, the lady next door had to clean her own bathroom before it was in a fit state to use. On our second night (Friday) we discovered that the bar had a midnight licence. This was discovered when we went downstairs to ask when we were going to be able to sleep due to the loud music and party that was happening. We were told in no uncertain terms that the locals were the priority, and we would be lucky if it quietened down by 1.30am. We were lucky, it was only 1.10am when all went quiet.
Next morning we had arranged breakfast for 9am. Tony was not around, but all the glasses and detritus from the night before was. Breakfast was almost £10 each for a smallish plate of greasy English.
We wanted relaxation and peace and quiet. If this is what you want, forget it. We don't know where the other reviews came from, but we certainly won't be going back to this pub although we love the area. Better luck next time.

I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay and would like to respond to your most relevant comments.

The Countryman's Inn is a traditional village pub at the heart of the local community. It is part of the social aminieties of the village and plays an active role in village life. It can therefore be busy at weekends with both visitors and the locals, This was the case on the Friday evening of your stay.

As a village pub, we are licenced until midnight. We have now added this information to our website so that it is clear to prospective guests.

In dealing with the elements of your feedback that were raised at the time, the music was turned off immediatly at your request at 11.10pm. The pub was closed and emptied by 00.40, within 30 minutes of your raising the issue again and well within the expectation of the licencing officer.

With regard to your comments relating to the room, the room descrition as "Traditional En Suite Double" indicates that it has not yet been refurbished and this is reflected in the tarriff.

The water management system to which you refer is automaticlly operated based on activity. Since your review was available to me I have had the supplier check its operation. It is operating correctly and cannot operate without motion. It cannot therefore operate throughout the night as you seem to suggest.

You comments relating to the lady in the next room are a surprise to me. I have not been able to speak to the guest. However I will do so when they return in December. The review submitted immediatly after yours, ironically is from the lady your refered to and she has raised no issues in her review.

I am sorry that in your selection of a "traditional village country pub" did not meet your expectations on this occation. In choosing to stay in a community village pub at the weekends it is perhaps to be expected that it will be busier than other nights, within its licenced hours, as the locals enjoy the facilities and ambience.

Thank you for your feedback. We will act on the appropriate areas to continue to try and improve our offering and service.

We arrived on Friday morning very early & were greeted by Tony & Liz who could not have been nicer - as the rooms were not yet ready as the previous nights occupants were just checking out, Tony stored out bags & we sat to have a cup of tea! The pub itsself is spotless, full of horse racing memorabilia (something I have a close link to, as my Godfather is passionate about horses)
Upon check in to the rooms - I was delighted with the standard, spotless rooms, newly refurbished and kitted out with all mod cons and a selection of "little extras" that made our stay even more enjoyable - a home away from home!
We also ate in the dining room on Friday night & compliments to Josh our chef who is incredibly innovative, who combines local & traditional ingredients to create an amazing dining experience - my taste buds have never been so happy!!
Breakfast each morning was beautiful & we availed of the Full English breakfast which was so tasty & not at all greasy, as some places literally serve a heart attack on a plate!

Over all we stayed for 2 nights & I can honestly say the thing that made our stay so perfect was not the picturesque location, clean and modern accommodation with a hint of old world, the AMAZING menu & food or the warmth of the locals - No it was the outstanding service from Tony our landlord who could not do enough for us and Liz who is a total gem!
Tony - we will be back!!!

Me and Hubby come to this Pub 2 or 3 times a year, Tony has just refurbished all bedrooms to a very High standard and are delicously comfortable, we were back down again, for my Hubbys 50th Birthday and had a fantastic time as usuall with my sister-in law and Hubby and our best friends, we always have a good laugh down here and the Hospitality is second to none, Tony is a fab host and always welcomes us with open arms, and our compliments to Josh the chef who always does a fab meal, (especially garlic mushrooms, haha.), i'd recommend this Pub to anyone, its a fantastic stay. This review is for the pub and food since we did not stay overnight! About 40 of us (owners of horses at a local yard descended on the pub for Sunday lunch. The owner owns part of a horse at the same yard and there are racing books and memorabilia in the pub which will be of interest to any guest who enjoy horse racing. Despite having to get 40 meals out at once along with inevitable problems physically getting so many plates and vegetables delivered, the staff did a great job. Everything was hot, tasty and plentiful and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. Recommended (although you might prefer a day when we are not there!)

Thank you for visiting the pub during your recent stable visit. As you are aware we are well situated for visiting any of the stables in Middleham/ Constable Burton and indeed the annual stables Open Day each Easter.(We are equidistant from the A1 junction and Middleham!) We are glad you enjoyed the pub and indeed your group Sunday lunch.

Thank you again for visiting.

We arrived at The Countyman's early Friday evening, to be met by a couple of locals and a very friendly and welcoming barmaid named H. After being shown to our rooms we retired to the bar for the best pint of Black Sheep I have had in a long time..

A couple of drinks later the real log fire was roaring, the locals had poured in and a very convivial crowd of locals had arrived, if not our very late dinner companions...

We had booked dinner in the locally acclaimed pub, however the chef and his wife (the sous chef) where on holiday; as such the kitchen was closed. Tony, the landlord, arrabged a meal for us in another pub in the next village along, which was very tasty (the meal, not the village).

Concious of the length of this waffleing, I will some up the following morning quickly -

Late for breakfast...
Lost car keys...
mislaid belongings..

Result? belongings found.. car key found.. and a very tasty breakfast!

Best pub in Hunton by the biggest country mile you can imagine...
