Well worth the extra mile!

Review of The Plough Inn
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Mar 2022
Two miles off the main road, the winding country lanes lead you to this true hidden gem in Stalisfield - and I highly recommend going that extra mile to find it.

Warm welcome, excellent food and a really comfortable bed!

The location is quintessentially English - village lifestyle, rural, peaceful and perched on a hill. The views across the Kentish Downs stretch to the coast on a clear day. Perfect base to explore Leeds Castle, local gardens, go hiking and have a day at the coast.

The food is outstanding. Chef-owner Richard and his head chef Matt have created a mouth-watering menu that deserves at least two nights to explore and decide. Plenty of dining choices and two open fires in winter.

The ensuite rooms are in a separate building, which adds to the privacy, spacious and appointed with hand-crafted joinery throughout. The extra lounge space that comes with each room was great for relaxing in and working from.

The Plough Inn's remote location and absence of light pollution makes it a star-gazers dream spot.

The row of gins in the bar is enviable...will definitely be back to work our way through the selection, and owner Marianne has a recommendation for everyone.

Go the extra mie - the hosts certainly do - and you wont regret it!

Fabulous room and pub set in the beautiful, peaceful Kent countryside and nothing was too much trouble for the owners Marianne and Richard. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attention to detail was excellent. The weekend was even better as the weather was glorious and enabled us to eat our delicious breakfast outside in the garden area. What impressed us the most was the food & service. Our 9 year son has allergies to wheat and nuts. We are normally a little anxious when we eat out or stay away somewhere but the team at The Plough Inn were fantastic. The food was exceptional and my son could eat without worrying.

Find the place as a good plate option at the Michelin Guide as a recommendation, we decided to try. The countryside surroundings don’t make it easy to access and you are a bit worried on the narrow roads to the place, even if it’s only 2miles from a main road.
Farm and old charming pub building, decor is traditional and warm.
Service was great, very friendly and attentive.
Food was great value, great bold flavours well execute.
With a starter to share ( baked Camembert) a main course each( pork belly and plaice ) burnt cream for dessert for 2, with beer, sweet wine and a coffee for £30 each.
A fantastic find

My wife booked a night for my birthday. Lovely pub with open fires and the food was really good. The accommodation is outstanding, really beautiful and amazing attention to detail in every respect. The cooked breakfast hamper next morning was fantastic, so much better than I had expected. One or two of the bar/restaurant staff are not as efficient and polished as the others but I'm sure they will soon learn.
We had a great time and will look for an excuse to return.

Thank you for choosing us to celebrate your wife's birthday, we are pleased you enjoyed your time with us. Indeed some of our team are still quite new as recruitment at this time has been somewhat of a challenge, but we are sure under our new managers wing they will flourish. We hope to see you again as soon as you can muster up an excuse! Marianne & Richard

We booked to stay for a few days for a staycation and visiting some friends with our dog, I have to say this is a fantastic place to stay , obviously at the moment due to the restrictions your room can’t be cleaned every day but breakfast is fab (brought to your room ) with a good choice . Then there is the pub itself , the food is top draw , I can honestly say on the first night I had the pie (proper pie) ham and chorizo , it is the best oi I’ve ever had , perfect pastry and chunks of ham an chorizo, we ate most nights at the pub and it is great and no wonder gets booked up quick . The staff are great and service was excellent throughout our stay , Marianne and Richard are fab, this is a great place and we will be back.
