“Just really awful!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Looked down on by waiter for using promotional voucher.
Bread Rolls were cold and rock hard, pasta starter cold and unseasoned not to mention extremely undercooked.
Quality of Steaks were very poor and chewy. Creme Brulee was not light at all. In fact it fact it was very obvious that most of this meal had been prepared the previous day and then simply reheated.
Waiter would ask in a very aggressive way to us and other diners between courses when he cleared plates, if there was something wrong with the food?
A fellow diner gave the best response to his untouched steak......... I'm just extremely fussy when it comes to my food!

The food here was outstanding, fillet steak for me and devilled kidneys, cooked fresh in front of us on a portable grill, for my husband.
However, neither of us drink alcohol and when we asked what non alcoholic drinks they could offer, we were looked down on and offered "a variety of fruit juices, coke or non alcoholic lager". In this day and age we found this rather depressing, both the attitude of the waiter and the lack of any interesting alternative drinks.

We stayed here on an impromptu stop off and had not even looked at the room/hotel before paying....always iffy! The room at first glance looked ok (an outhouse building without any privacy but ok) - it was "accessorised" well and we were happy enough. The beds were comfy and it did the job. However, on closer inspection, the tiles were off the wall in the bathroom, it was very old school, not especially clean but clean enough, and we had a hole in the bedroom wall which is never a good look! I would say it looked better at first sight, but reality is, it is of a Travelodge standard.

We went for a drink in the "bar" which was a little lacking in atmosphere and quite pricey. Then we took our drinks outside to the lovely lawn area...and it was peaceful and very relaxing.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and this was a massive bonus.

If I had to stay in Godstone again, I would probably return...but I would look for an alternative first - not fab, not horrific....so as per title...undecided!

We were not residents so can not review the accommodation. We were taken by our son as a thank you treat and we had a perfect meal. The staff were most helpful and ensured we knew the contents of each meal. They cooked our sons steak to perfection and he is very fussy. My starter of scallops was tasteful and tender served in an imaginative way. My canon of lamb served with a kidney was delicious. Such a lovely evening good food, good service and good company.

We were concerned about the reviews before we arrived - so were very pleasantly surprised with the comfort and cosiness of our bedroom. It had tea and coffee making facilities, an en suite shower and WC. There was a flat screen TV - and free WiFi!. The continental breakfast was perfectly fine and the staff were extremely helpful.

We stayed here to attend a birthday lunch. Our room was motel style and very easy to park outside. It was comfortable, clean and well appointed. The food was excellent with very attentive staff serving. The restaurant seemed to be very popular with local people.
