We camped at hunters lodge on the August bank holiday weekend. We left it late to book a site but found this on the website pitched up. It fitted our needs, non electric pitch and quiet or so we thought!!!! The welcome on arrival was very friendly and helpful, we were shown the showers etc..(simple but clean and tidy)

There are only a small number of camping pitches on site, ours was at the bottom of an incline. The pitch itself was not particularly flat which was a shame as when we blew up our air beds you could feel the slope when you led down :(

There are chickens and guinea fowl on site which is nice for the kids and great for fresh eggs for your breakie too, the only downside was either a cockerel or one of the guinea fowl making a hell of a racket at 5am.

On the subject of noise and not the owners fault were a bunch of lads who seemed to appear out of nowhere around midnight on sat and spent plenty of time shouting, swearing and generally trying their best to make a nuisance of themselves, they were not residents so I can only assume they have nothing better to do or were trying to find their way home!!

All and all an ok experience

The site is lovely and only has about 20 pitches. Big pitches are fab but be warned although it doesn't say on their website it's apparently only one tent per pitch, although we resolved this fairly quickly with an additional payment. Site is really green and tranquil and is for those that want some space but are happy with limited facilities (no hot water for washing up etc) this was fine with us. Our only point of note would be that if you are given a pitch on the first field as you go in on the left these are very close to the road and whilst its a country road there's quite a lot of traffic at 'rush' hour and if you're a light sleeper this is likely to wake you up early. For this reason only the location got a 3, if wed been over other side away from road more it would have got a higher score, and to be fair this is nothing the owners can do anything about.

We stayed with friends for 2 nights and we really enjoyed ourselves, a small walk or cycle and you have so many things to do a lovely pub called The Anchor, and a great cycle path to Dawlish Warren or the other way to Exeter or catch a ferry to Exmouth or Topsham. We will be returning very soon.
