Having arrived on there Isles of Scilly feeling rather weary after the night train from Paddington, and a 2hr 40min trip on the Scillonian, it was lovely to arrive at the hotel and be greeted by Joanna on reception.

Our bags were already in our room, so after a friendly chat we were taken to our room where we settled in for the first evening.

The rest of the holiday followed in the same manner!

Always a friendly greeting from Joanna on Reception and the ever present young chap in the restaurant looked after us at breakfast and evening dinner.

Breakfast was fantastic - a full English every day - if you wanted it - or an other combination of egg etc that you wanted, and always plenty of it! You choose what you want for evening dinner at breakfast to avoid wasting food - which is a great idea that works really well.

My partner is vegetarian and she was catered for in an innovative way - in such that dishes were not the usual vegetarian fare - but nicely thought out and tasty!

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, breakfast and dinner were nice a sociable with couples sharing either what they were going to do for the day or what they had done during the day.

The bar served coffee after dinner, and again this was very sociable.

The room was always spotlessly clean, and the bed very comfortable!

Then there's the little details that make things special:

With tea making facilities in the room there was everything you needed, with the added touch of fresh milk available in a mini fridge on each floor - if you didn't want to use the carton milk provided in the room.

The fan in the bathroom seemed to be on some kind of timer - so if you need the bathroom in the night the light comes on - but the fan doesn't - perfect!

The 'Yacht' Toloa. Or strictly speaking, a 60ft sailing ketch.
The day we arrived we were offered a trip on the owners newly refurbished ketch. Unfortunately, we had to turn this down, but those that did go on the trip had had a fabulous time, and we wished we had been able to go. Ah well, there's always the next time!

WiFi was available - and I was able to FaceTime my dad on his birthday - lovely!

So, that about sums everything up - the rest of the Isles if Scilly was lovely to vista from this perfect little base!

Thanks to Joanna, the lovely chap (sorry I can't remember his name!), Carol and Keith! We hope to see you again another year.

Room Tip: We had room 11 - which had a marvellous sea view towards the quay - so you could see when the queue...

Owners Carol and Keith made our holiday even more special this year by taking us out for an afternoons sailing on their magnificent Ketch. Joanne and the team really make your stay here feel special as you become part of the family and you will even want to talk to the other guests over coffee to decide what to do on the next day in paradise. The food is excellent, service is first class, rooms are clean. beds comfortable. My tip come for a week or more and book a sea view room,. If you have a wet day the world goes on out-side your window . The pot boys bring in the crabs, the boat boys take out the trippers, in comes the ferry out goes the freight boat. Elvis might even tap on your window. Thanks for a great week.

We recently visited the hotel for the first but certainly not the last time. Tucked away behind the main street, I never knew the place existed but what a revelation! Spotlessly clean, fantastic food and excellent service. The views over the harbour are unbelievable and the quay is practically on the doorstep. The breakfast choices are excellent and substantial and the evening menu is chosen then, all served by the hardest working waiter I have ever seen!.The chef Paul has a wonderful range of dishes, all cooked to pefection. His partner Joanna is manager and 1001 other things. Her knowledge of the islands is superb and nothing is too much trouble for her. On the top floor is a really comfortable lounge with views over the harbour, an ideal place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Definitely a place to return to.

Room Tip: Request a sea view

We took an aged partly disabled parent for a break on the Isles of Scilly with some trepidation. However, we were delighted with the kindly and efficient care and attention afforded by this pleasant little hotel.
The views over the harbour are magnificent, the rooms clean and comfortable and the food fresh, simple and nicely cooked. Joanna , the manager , is a particular gem.
Staying in the Isles of Scilly is not generally cheap, but the overall package (including half-board ) makes this hotel very good value.

My new wife and I stayed at Schooners Hotel at the beginning of June 2014. Located down an alley just off the main street through Hugh Town, the entrance is at the side of the hotel. To be honest it's not the most glamorous entrance, but do go on in - it's so worth it!

This was our first time on the Scillies, and we were absolutely bowled over by the Hotel and the friendliness of the staff. Joanne, the manager greeted us and showed us to our room, room 15 which is on the third floor. Once we had dropped our bags off, we decided to explore and asked Joanne where we could find a great tour of the islands. She dropped what she was doing and took us the short distance to the correct booking office in town - she was amazingly helpful and a great source of local knowledge.

Room 15 has a small kitchen area and three large windows, each with a fabulous view over the harbour. The small bathroom has a wonderful shower, perfect after a great days walking. Next to our room was the lounge, with a coffee pod system, an extensive library of books and a number of comfortable seats. Again there was a view over to the harbour and the jetty from where all the islands boat trips were based.

Meals are taken on the ground floor, with a stand-out, substantial, delicious breakfast. Evening meals are pre booked by selecting your choices during breakfast. Every evening there were new choices, all of which were completely delicious. For desert, please do try the Troytown Farm Ice Cream! Made on St. Agnes it is probably the most delicious ice cream I have ever tasted.

The restaurant staff were so friendly, very courteous without being over bearing. At about 9:00am each day one of the boat captains comes to advise which tours are running from the harbour that day.

We would highly recommend the Schooners Hotel to anyone wanting a lovely place to stay, where they will be looked after in an exemplary manner and where they want good, tasty and local food... We will be going back to the Scillies, and the Schooner's Hotel will be our hotel of choice.

Room Tip: The stairs are pretty steep, but the views are well worth the climb.

This is our fourth stay at this hotel. It has a great team looking after you. Joanna is so welcoming and was extremely helpful when we had a problem with checking in for flights. The meals cooked by Paul, Joanna's partner, are scrumptious with several choices for each course on the menu and served by a pleasant and efficient young man. Our room (12) had a fantastic view over the harbour and we saw some wonderful sunsets over Samson from our window.
The Scilly Isles did their magic once again and we'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room overlooking the harbour

We can only echo the recent reviews on the right! Lovely staff, super food and a view to die for from our room 8. Only a short stroll to the jetty, passing all the few shops that you might need, Inconspicuous entrance to a treasure!
