Having arrived on there Isles of Scilly feeling rather weary after the night train from Paddington, and a 2hr 40min trip on the Scillonian, it was lovely to arrive at the hotel and be greeted by Joanna on reception.
Our bags were already in our room, so after a friendly chat we were taken to our room where we settled in for the first evening.
The rest of the holiday followed in the same manner!
Always a friendly greeting from Joanna on Reception and the ever present young chap in the restaurant looked after us at breakfast and evening dinner.
Breakfast was fantastic - a full English every day - if you wanted it - or an other combination of egg etc that you wanted, and always plenty of it! You choose what you want for evening dinner at breakfast to avoid wasting food - which is a great idea that works really well.
My partner is vegetarian and she was catered for in an innovative way - in such that dishes were not the usual vegetarian fare - but nicely thought out and tasty!
As some of the other reviews have mentioned, breakfast and dinner were nice a sociable with couples sharing either what they were going to do for the day or what they had done during the day.
The bar served coffee after dinner, and again this was very sociable.
The room was always spotlessly clean, and the bed very comfortable!
Then there's the little details that make things special:
With tea making facilities in the room there was everything you needed, with the added touch of fresh milk available in a mini fridge on each floor - if you didn't want to use the carton milk provided in the room.
The fan in the bathroom seemed to be on some kind of timer - so if you need the bathroom in the night the light comes on - but the fan doesn't - perfect!
The 'Yacht' Toloa. Or strictly speaking, a 60ft sailing ketch.
The day we arrived we were offered a trip on the owners newly refurbished ketch. Unfortunately, we had to turn this down, but those that did go on the trip had had a fabulous time, and we wished we had been able to go. Ah well, there's always the next time!
WiFi was available - and I was able to FaceTime my dad on his birthday - lovely!
So, that about sums everything up - the rest of the Isles if Scilly was lovely to vista from this perfect little base!
Thanks to Joanna, the lovely chap (sorry I can't remember his name!), Carol and Keith! We hope to see you again another year.
