The four of us have just spent a week in the family room and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at this wonderful, family run hotel. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, the views are unbeatable (try the guest lounge on the top floor, especially good for weather checks since the met office seem to have trouble forecasting accurately for Scilly). The food is very good indeed here and the staff are ony too happy to cater for speial requirements (I am a coeliac so this can be tricky), but this is an island so maybe think ahead and give penty of warning so they can get stuff in. The weekly authentic Thai night is probably the best kept secret on the island and was utterly fantastic! The staff are friendly, accommodating and helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal as it is very central, almost in the sea at high tide (!) yet the entrance is down a little back street which stays quiet. All in all a fabuous place to come and unwind.

Overall this is an excellent and very charming hotel, but probably worth staying for the view alone. We were lucky to have a room just above beach level, overlooking the harbour and with views to the islands beyond. We were just gobsmacked each and every time we went into the room - on first opening the bedroom door, and looking through the big picture window, it felt almost like falling out onto the beach! Nice to have the fresh air and to hear the sea too. Clean and tidy room, with ensuite facilities. Fairly small, I suppose, but cosy and with everything that we wanted and needed as a base for our stay. The guest lounge (at the top of the hotel) and bar area (off the beach ) provide additional facilities and space if you want to sit and relax, read, etc. The cooked (full English) breakfast was excellent (really loved the mushrooms!). We didn't have evening meal as we dined out, but the menu looked varied and interesting. We'd very much like to stay again, and highly recommend this hotel.

We were lucky to have the room at the top of the hotel with fantastic views on the harbour and other islands. The food was absolutely fantastic - so much so that we didn't bother to eat anywhere else in the evenings. Three courses every evening - highly recommend. The breakfasts were lovely. One day we were offered freshly baked scones and on another day freshly baked rolls...this was on top of the juice, cereals, fresh fruit salad, yogurt and a fry-up with lovely locally sourced bacon and sausages. All this with toast and tea/coffee. Even had redbush tea for me!
There was also a lovely new guests' sitting room at the top of the hotel (very convenient for us) which had the same views as our room. Spacious with comfortable furniture and tea/coffee facility. Was most welcome on the rainy days and a chance to get to know other guests.
Overall highly recommend this but only for adults who are able to manage stairs easily. No lift and no facilities for children.

Initial impressions not good as the approach to the hotel was down a narrow alley and our bedroom was small and without the modern en-suite as advertised on the hotel website We did book late and having been shown other rooms by the owner on our last day realised that our room was not representative of other rooms in the hotel
A visit to the upstairs lounge soon cheered us up as there were comfy seats ,lots of books and a fabulous view over the harbour
All staff were very friendly and helpful
Breakfasts were excellent in particular the large bowl of fresh fruit salad and the freshly cooked hot breakfast Didn't have a evening meal but other guests said the food was very good
This is a small informal hotel and an excellent place to unwind and appreciate the slow pace of life on the Scilly Isles
Only small gripe is that due to illness we arrived 1 day late but were still charged for the full week's stay

This is a small hotel situated right in the town centre minutes from the boat trips and beach. You can step out the bar direct onto the beach and enjoy the sunset. The staff were friendly and helpful. When booking they advertised as not taking children under a certain age but did make an exception for us, however they did not cater for young children. The food was pretty disgusting unless you like garlic mushrooms with your cooked breakfast! and the evening meals again did not cater for children with my one year old getting the same size portions as the adults and not a child friendly menu. But I guess they did fit us in last minute! Definitely recommend this hotel (bed and breakfast only) for adults.

Located at the rear of the main street in Hugh Town this hotel is very central for exploring St Mary's along with all the other islands. The entrance to the hotel looks no more than a private front door off a service road, though step inside and the welcome is warm, staff are friendly & helpful, the surroundings clean & refreshing, though stairways are somewhat intricate.
My room was small by normal standards and as a single traveller I could have thought as usual they have found the box room for the person travelling alone. Not this time though, the view over the harbour took my breath away, talk about being on the beach you could not have got closer. The room itself was clean and freshly decorated and had all the expected facilities including a comfortable bed.. During my stay I affectionetly called it my cabin as at high tide, lying on the bed you could easily have been on a boat in the harbour.

The upstairs lounge area has recently been renovated and extended, It has been tastefully decorated and is the perfect location to relax in and admire the view. There is also a computer in here for general use for anybody who feels they must be in touch with the world during their stay.

The dining room and bar on the ground floor are small but again are finished to a high standard. The breakfasts were excellent and freshly cooked to order. Dinner if required is prebooked in the morning from a limited imaginative menu and again the quality was excellent. Service was always efficient and with a smile.

Overall this hotel is slightly different from many I have stayed in and it is by no means five star but what it lacks in luxury it certainly makes up for in atmosphere. For many people coming to the island I would say it is the perfect location to stay and I look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

The owners and staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant, giving us individual and caring attention. The food was imaginative and beautifully prepared and served. The small entrance belies the wonderful views when you get to your room, from the ground floor and top floor lounges. Decor is clean and modern with thought given to caring for the environment. A perfect base from which to explore the beautiful Isles of Scilly.
