As soon as our heads hit the pillow on our first night, we knew we had made a great decision in choosing to stay at Reefview apartments.

After being collected from the airport by Karoll (owner of the apartment), we were taken the scenic route through the rainforest back to the apartment. We stopped at a local fruit stand to buy some delicious local pineapple and watermelon, before being given a superb rum punch and some quiet time to relax and get settled. Unused to the heat, we headed straight to the shore for a quick splash about to cool down, and found a deserted coastline, perfect for nature walks. We opted for a welcome dinner on our first evening, which was delicious, and the wine flowed generously.

The apartment had everything we needed and more. Secure screens across the windows meant that bugs were kept out, and the ceiling fans kept the rooms cool and breezy.

Karoll gave us an excellent introduction the island the next morning, equipping us with a map and suggestions for local places to eat and explore. We headed to Chappie's, just a short walk away at the local marina for a few dinners and lunches. (Chappie's is basically a large wooden shack with a bar and kitchen that serves cheap but tasty meals.) Run by Chappie and his wife Shenette, you will have a warm welcome and taste some great local food. Set dishes are made every day, but if you want anything different they are happy to cook it up given a days warning (we ordered red snapper one night). Other good local eats are Dennis's coctail bar (by Freyes Beach) and Roti King (in St John's). Our best lunch on the whole holiday was enjoyed when we took a boat trip with Creole Cruises to Bird Island - we had tasty BBQ lobster, which was included in the price of (a great) day out.

I could probably go on about everything else in great detail, but I will just pick a few more highlights... hiring a car and doing the 40 minute trek to Rendezvous Bay is a must for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. The beach was deserted and set between big rolling hills, backed by woodland and greenery - pack a picnic and plenty of water. We were fortunate to be in town during the 44th Antiguan sport fishing tournament. Down at Nelson's Dock we saw boats coming in with all sorts of big fish, including a huge blue marlin. Driving out to Halfmoon Bay was a great day out - we also popped up to Devil's Bridge to see the dramatic coastline on the Northwest of the Island (a day out combining the two was perfect). Evening walks along the shore by the apartment were really special. Almost always had the place to ourselves, and each day managed to see different wildlife before sunset.. Eating dinner on our terrace in candle light was also really memorable, and there is a large supermarket a short drive or bus journey away to collect all you need. We borrowed the Kayak at the apartments and paddled along the coastline and explored the mangrove maze - seeing stingray and starfish on the way.

Ultimately this is supposed to be a review of the apartment rather than the surrounding area, but the two are so explicably linked. The apartment is lovely, and Karoll can recommend all the local places for you to enjoy and get the best out of the island, a service you just wouldn't get at one of the resorts. We did visit the beaches of some of the resorts (Dickenson's, Carlisle Bay and Jolly Beach), but they just didn't compare to some of the more unspoilt beaches like Turner's (easily reached by bus) as well as the more remote locations.

I would finally like to add that your holiday will be even more enjoyable if you love animals. Karoll has two dogs, three cats and a parrot. Whilst I am not normally a fan of dogs, they were perfectly calm animals and very friendly, so I was not scared at all. The cats are a lot of fun, and if you invite them in they will be your friends all holiday. The apartment is set in a village location, but we found it peaceful most of the time.

We would both fully recommend a stay at Reefview. The cost and experience made our dreams of a perfect Caribbean holiday a reality.

I would be happy to answer any further questions via email.

Best wishes,
Nicky.

Owners Nick and Karoll were perfect hosts at this small out of the way 3 unit apartment resort. They were always available if we needed anything, but never infringing on our privacy. Located in a quiet residential area with a great sea view from the loft and only a few hundred yards to a quiet sandy beach. We stayed in the 2 story efficiency loft style apartment which was equipped with all of the utensils for vacation cooking, beach towels, cable TV and even WIFI. We walked to other nearby beaches, local restaurants and markets but you will need to take a bus (bus stop is nearby) or rent a car to visit other parts of Antigua. Very relaxing place to spend a week . . . or more!

3 apartments Beach, garden and penthouse with panoramic Seaviews metres from a deserted stretch of reef beach, take a sunny walk with the pets, or enjoy optional extras of Kayaking, deep sea fishing, scuba, or island discovery, and discover great romatic restaurants nearby with lovely locations and views. Sandy beaches and full aspect of nature surrounds the location. Do what you want at a leisureley pace and enjoy being in your own Zone.!! Top recommendation for that romantic chill out tranquility you have been searching for.

The property description doesn't do it justice, this lovely little set of
apartments is where you can go to enjoy the real Antigua. It's comfortable,
it's clean, it's well maintained, the owners are on site and extremely helpful
and kind. I would never stay anywhere else in Antigua. The price is
unbelievable. Karoll knows all the best local places to eat if you don't feel
like using your own full kitchen and her advice on the beaches was invaluable.
If you miss your dog and cat at home, don't worry there's a few right here who
want to be your friend, but they are so well behaved they won't bother you at
all if you'd rather not have them. The welcome bbq should not be missed, Karoll
and Nick will provide a meal you will really enjoy

Reefview apartments are located in a wonderful area, the nearest beach practically being your garden and only a short walk to some of the island's best beaches. I spent a month all over Antigua, a week of it at Reefview, and it was a fantastic week. The apartments are all very well equipped and modern, while retaining a local flavour. The laid-back Nick and Karoll are a wealth of information and are both very helpful, and while happy to leave you to your own devices, they were always available for help or advice when you need it. They seem to know almost everybody - indeed, Karoll booked my onward accommodation for me and got a far better deal then i would have myself! Thoroughly recommend Reefview for anyone wanting to stay in Antigua but doesn't want the all-inclusive resort experience.
