Owner description: On 93 hectares of coastal farmland in Wallington, you will find Oakdene's boutique vineyard, award winning restaurant and cellar door. Situated near Ocean Grove, Wallington is found on the Bellarine Peninsula, approximately 20 kilometres east of Geelong and 90 kilometres south of Melbourne. The region enjoys a cool, maritime climate that moderates the weather patterns, resulting in a long cool growing season, producing low yields of high quality fruit. Established in 2001, Oakdene specialises in the varieties best suited to the region: chardonnay, pinot noir, shiraz, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc, and the range includes both still and sparkling wines. The wines are elegant and complex and reflect the true varietal character of the region. Dedication in the vineyard and winery has produced immediate results, with wines awarded medals and trophies at major wine shows and a 5-star rating in James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2014. Visitors can enjoy daily informative or tutored wine tastings in Oakdene's uniquely designed Cellar Door, while experiencing estate grown olive oil, orchids and lavender products. A visit to Oakdene would not be complete without dining at Oakdene Restaurant, the perfect place to match estate grown Bellarine Peninsula wines with the menu of seasonal, local and regional produce prepared with passion and flair. Various dining options are available, including a la carte and degustation menus, private dining rooms or more casual dining in the garden. Find out for yourself why Oakdene restaurant recently received the national award for Best Restaurant in a Winery and Best Tourism Restaurant at the prestigious Restaurant & Catering National Awards for Excellence in 2013. Oakdene also caters for weddings and special events, offers three beautifully appointed themed accommodation rooms, and is simply a place to experience, not just to visit.

If you are travelling the Bellarine area and have a few minutes to spare, drop into this great winery, Their are some fantastic artefacts fashioned from old hardware, farming implements and scrap metal. It is museum like with many interesting bits and pieces.
The winery has some great local wines too.
Offroad parking in front and behind the winery looks adequate: might be a bit crowded at vintage time though, but certainly worth a look.

My wife and I called into Oakdene for a tasting while visiting vineyards in the Bellarine. Only one other couple in the cellar door at the time and we received a very thorough structured journey through about ten wines, with accompanying information sheet for us to scribble notes on.

From memory, the tasting costs $5.00 which is refundable against any purchases. This appears to be common practice at a lot of Australian cellar doors these days. We purchased a number of bottles, because they were great, not to get our five bucks back.

Staff were knowledgeable and interactive. Some very nice wines at reasonable prices.

Well worth a visit.

Thank Tim M

Oakdene is like an Alice in Wonderland fine-dining experience. When you go there (don't take the kids) don't be in a rush, enjoy the surrounds and the quality of the food. Great for a special event, or if you can afford to go regularly.

A unique wine experience. Just turn up and see for yourself. A boutique cellar door within an amazing architecture.

The wines seemed to have been made in a style, particularly the Riesling, that would appeal to a European market as well as an Australian one. There was a little bit of class and subtlety to their wines that really appealed.
