We spent five nights here and loved every minute of it. The beachfront villas were large and comfortable with the most glorious outlook. I awoke every morning to see the sun rising over the sea from my bed. There is plenty of shade in and around the beach area with mattresses on the sun beds. I really enjoyed the large and inviting pool while my husband swan in the sea every day.

The gardens are beautifully kept with trees, grass and colorful flowers which contributed to the overall feeling of peace and relaxation.

There are two restaurants, an Italian one up a fairly steep hill and another beside the sea. We always ate down by the sea as I have limited mobility and we were very happy with that. There was a good choice and the food was well cooked and presented. The staff were delightful and the service was good. We particularly enjoyed the Carribean evening and the lobster festival.

Our hosts were charming. There was a mix up by our agent with our request for twin beds and as there were none available on the ground floor we were kindly given a two roomed villa at no extra cost, for which we were very grateful.

I recommend the spa highly. My massage and the environment were great.

The property does have a varied terrain with level ground, hills and steps. I have a serious problem with hills and stairs but I managed absolutely fine on the lower levels. Just be sure to be aware of this when reserving your room.

My husband and I just returned from a fabulous week at the Bequia Beach Hotel. We stayed in the Tobago Cays Cottage and it was perfect for us. The cottage was immaculate inside and out. The decor was very nice, the bed was super comfortable, the shower was great, there was lots of space and we loved to sit outside on our porch and relax.

The entire resort is immaculately maintained. Both pools are beautiful & a great place to relax. The beach was also very beautiful with lots of private little areas to relax and enjoy. The ocean is so warm and inviting for a refreshing swim and the watersports equipment was always available to head out for some adventuring.

The staff were absolutely amazing. They were all genuinely friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure you were looked after at all times and service was always accompanied by a smile :)

The food in the restaurant was great and the nightly entertainment was fantastic. We went to the Saturday night cocktail party and really enjoyed meeting some of the other guests and the owner of the resort. He took the time on several occasions to stop and chat with us and with some prodding he even got my husband out on the dance floor on two occasions (which is quite an accomplishment)!

The island of Bequia is beautiful, the people are amazing and I would highly recommend the Bequia Beach Hotel as a place to stay while there.

We stayed 6 nights in February. Very nice Hotel in pristine grounds with a near perfect beach apart from the fact that the weather prevented us from swimming in the sea. The Atlantic swell and the steep beach meant that there was surf all the time and considerable under-tow. Fine for strong swimmers who could get in and out quickly but I saw two older women bowled over and I heard of one who suffered a head injury requiring medical treatment. The Caribbean side of the Island was much calmer.
We stayed in a Beach Front suite which was only a few steps to the sand and sea and only yards from the pool, restaurant and bar. The room was well furnished with good a/c and ceiling fan, plenty of storage and a nice walk in shower. Small fridge replenished with bottled water and fresh milk daily and a kettle with tea and coffee. No TV or radio.
The food was generally good with buffet continental breakfast and cooked food to order. Lunches and dinners were fine and on several evenings there were special events such as BBQ, Caribbean Night etc. with musical entertainment.
The second restaurant only open certain evenings specialised in Italian food which made a nice change. The bar was a friendly place to meet in the evenings, Mr Kong made special cocktails and the owner paid the occasional visit. Just to prove it is still a family run hotel.
Only downside apart from the sea was the variability of the service in the restaurant. But hey this is the Caribbean

Room tip: Ground floor beach front suites give the best access to the beach, upper floors get a better view.

Dear Maldoc,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, it was a pleasure to welcome you for a week at Bequia Beach Hotel. We are glad that you enjoyed your room as well as the themed nights. In regards to the swell on Friendship Beach we understand your comment and we have now organised a complimentary shuttle service to Princess Margaret Beach when the sea is rough so that our guests are able to enjoy a swim on the Caribbean side.

We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future and hope that you had a safe flight home.

Kind regards,

Chris

We stayed for a week at BBH Sat-Sat at the beginning of February in Mayreau Cottage.

The hotel itself was rather big for us but we were the middle cottage so out of the way and it was very private and peaceful sitting on the porch, apart from the odd gardener using our garden as a cut through in the hedge to get to a storage room we presumed.

The room itself was very spacious with clean bedding and towels (although these could have been bigger!) We had twin beds. Air conditioning and shower with very good pressure and also had a ceiling fan too. Tea and coffee was plentiful and we were also given a mosquito plug in and spray. (We also brought our own as I get bitten often, I don't know if the hotel still provide mosquito nets but I seemed to get bit during the day from things in the sand or where we walked.)
Our lovely domestic Aggie and her team kept our room spic and span and everything replaced (this was done every day).

The cottage itself states 1 bedroom but it is really a studio. We personally could have done with a little kitchenette which was in the 2 bedrooms but cost £150 more a night so rather a big extra expense.

The grounds were kept immaculate with gardeners working all the time to get rid of leaves and keeping paths clear. The only part that wasn't kept as well was the area where the beach chairs were, this area was full of dead weedy grass and rather stony to walk on.
There were the odd foot baths and showers scattered about which were really handy to wash off sand and freshen up when hot.

The food as others have mentioned was ok but rather pricey and not served hot enough for our tastes. We don't eat more than 1 meal a day so we made breakfast our main meal and ate mainly fruit in the evening. We only ate once in the Blue Tropic restaurant and again the food was ok but not hot enough and average portion sizes. At breakfast there was a good selection and the home made french stick, scones and muffins were lovely. One thing we did notice when ordering items, they were occasionally missing and had to be asked for again.

Had cocktails once - a Blue Laggon and a Mud Slide. They were £10 each but were served in big glasses and were yummy!

Staff were quite friendly but a mixed bunch for efficiency and attentiveness. Staff in reception were very eager to help.

The beach at Friendship was a lovely strech of sand, very little seaweed but very rough waves at the time we stayed with blowing sand. It did get the sun most of the day (although the weather was very varied and black cloud and rain visited us very regularly but still warm).

We were asked a couple of times if we were client's at the hotel. The hotel does cater for families but was pleased that for only 1 day there was one young girl (between 6 and 9 years old) singing constantly in the pool which was a bit annoying. Even a woman sitting in the pool area behind us mentioned to her partner that it was getting on her nerves. In my opinion the hotel was too resort like for us, the pool area was too small for the amount of rooms. Unfortunately, the other guests were mainly wealthy English posh spoken couples who were stone faced and didn't like to smile a little! But fortunately not all. The one thing that really infuriated me was the saving of sunbeds at the pool area and near the beach. Towels and books were put down mainly before we had finished breakfast at 8am. Some left for more than 3 hours or old towels left on beds because they couldn't be bothered to put their towels in the used towel basket. This did affect us as we occasionally could not get a sunbed around the pool in the sun.

The hotel has a great taxi family that are called Gideons. We had Jenson take us from the airport and on a tour. What a pleasant soft spoken young man, very obliging and who is from the island. Taxis were plentiful and set rates about the same price as you would pay in England. We got the dollar bus back from town a couple of times as it wasn't that far but not the first time as we had shopping and it would have taken up too much room in the bus.

We would recommend the walk into town from the hotel via Lower bay beach and walkway. As it was high season it wasn't deserted and Port Elizabeth was quite busy but the walk was tranquil. No hassle from anyone. We found shopping including fruit and veg was quite expensive but the position of the island means you can expect this. It would just depend on where you live compared to how expensive you find it.

We are sunbathers and other beaches including Lower Bay and Princess Margaret were not suitable for sun bathing as the position of the sun trees and seaweed. We mainly stuck to Friendship for this but Lower bay and Princess Margaret were lovely to walk along and very shady.

We did like Bequia for the size where local people and tourists mingle, but not for sunbathing. BBH was rather expensive for an annual holiday.
One thing also to be aware of, the hotel registration form did want to take $100 per night for incidentals from your credit card (for food and drink) to be returned in 3 days. We put on the form that we would pay as we go so this did not happen to us, but this shows you how much you are expected to spend a day at the hotel.
I believe half board is around £70 each a day and full board around £120 each a day (quite a lot for an average person per day!) Unfortunately BBH is really for those with high salaries or socialites who don't mind what they pay for accommodation or food not for those who save up for a holiday once or twice a year.

We are pleased we went to Bequia and enjoyed our stay and holiday, but would not return to this hotel.

Dear jadeg100,

It always appreciated when our Guests take so much time in sharing their experiences and hopefully we learn from these comments to improve our services and to gain ideas from a different perspective. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. If I take your comments in order. I note your comments with regard to the Gardeners using the garden area of Mayreau Cottage as a shortcut which is not acceptable especially when the cottages are there to provide you peace and quiet and this would obviously be annoying and disturbing this environment. I will follow up with the team. Yes, we still have Mosquito nets and will also note that we should make sure guests know these are available, there is nothing worse than being bitten. Thank you for your comments with regard to Aggie and her team which will definitely be passed on and they will be delighted.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with regard to the kitchenette facilities we will certainly look at how we can improve the facilities in the cottages but probably a little too small for a kitchen. The two bedrooms are better for two couples of a family and therefore the price is based on per sleeper. We are constantly looking into our pricing structure again our competition and guests demands and your comments will be taken on board. Perhaps we need to look at putting some amenities such as cookies you can have with your tea and coffee.

Your comments on Blue Tropics’s restaurant as to the temperature and size of the portions will be taken onboard and we do hope this did not spoil your enjoyment of the menu selection too much.

I absolutely agree with your annoyance when other guests dominate the sun-beds and do not return for hours. We do train the staff to keep a watch but obviously more training and perhaps a politely addressed notice around the pool and on the beach which advises our guests that towels will be removed if the beds are not used within a period of time. This has been brought into service by many hotels whose pool areas are not overly large and therefore to avoid this situation do inform guests to be considerate to our guest at the hotel and not to reserve beds if they are not going to use immediately.

Interesting comments in regards to the beach facilities Princess Margaret and Lower Bay. These are extremely popular with visitors and guests taking advantage of the calmer waters and length of beach available. I am pleased you enjoyed your walks on these beaches and it is a great way to wander on the board walk towards Port Elizabeth.

We will review your pricing comments and especially the full board option. It is always a disappointment when you have saved up all year to visit a destination afar and you find shortcomings as such and we always aim to try and deliver a special experience. I am so sorry we did not make this as such you would return.

However, I would very much like to send you our next newsletter which will include our future renovations and new activities, which we hope might change your mind to visit again sometime in the future.

Once again I truly appreciate your comments and will ensure these are taken and shared with my team.

With best regards

Christopher

Perfect" is a high bar and both Bequia and the Bequia Beach Hotel clear it with ease.
The weather was perfect every day for 11 days. 80s, sunny, nice breeze. I was never hot or cold. The water is a similar temperature. The island is naturally beautiful, not manicured. There is nothing fussy about Bequia or the BBH. Lots of hills, sloping gently into gorgeous sandy beaches. The water is every color of beautiful blues and came on shore in fun-to-watch waves. BBH is on Friendship Bay, which is good for swimming and crescent-shapped, about 6/10s of a mile long. It's relatively hard-packed (you don't sink much) but it is on a bit of an angle. There aren't many shells but there is terrific snorkeling at one end of the beach. It's great to be able to snorkel right off the beach (vs getting a boat.)
On the resort itself... the staff is terrific. From the managers, Chris and Cecelia, to the waitresses to the house-keepers -- everyone was friendly and helpful. We ate the majority of our meals at the resort and enjoyed most of them. Breakfast (included) was terrific. Excellent omelets, lots of fresh fruit and baked goods. Lunch was typically a salad that was always great and dinner varied. Grilled lobster night (Sat) was fantastic. BBH has two restaurants -- Bagatelle on the beach and Blue Orchid (Italian) up the hill. We enjoyed meals at both.
There is a very nice pool, good for lap swimming, and a small gym (3 pieces of cardio equipment, a universal machine, and free weights.) The grounds are beautiful. Wonderful landscaping. We spent a lot of time in lounge chairs right on the beach. We stayed in an ocean-front suite in one of the 2-story buildings right on the beach. It had a great balcony, a small sitting area, and a spacious bathroom. We had AC as well as a ceiling fan.
Some guests rented cars but it's easy to take taxis and a lot safer. The roads are skinny and the locals drive pretty fast. I would not have felt comfortable driving. You can walk from BBH to Port Elizabeth, the main town on the island. It's worth it to explore for an afternoon. The harbor is full of pretty boats. You can walk over to Princess Margaret beach and the Lower Bay beach. There are good restaurants here, too. Recommend Jack's.

Room tip: We stayed in 47 and would recommend it but I would have preferred a king-sized bed so ask what sort of bed your room will have.
