We didn't stay here, but went for the BBQ evening....it had been advertised as a buffet, but as the hotel was quiet, they served the food, but you could have as much as you wanted! The tuna we started with was melt in the mouth, just seared and cooked to perfection! Amazing! Then we shared some slices of steak, again nice and red in the middle, and rack of lamb, plus a selection of side dishes! Chocolate mousse cake and ice cream followed. We had 2 guys singing and playing on their guitars to accompany us! Although it wasn't busy, the staff were very friendly and it was the best meal we had on the island, and not the most expensive!

Bequia is an unspoilt, unsophisticated island unlike its neighbour, Mustique. The Beach Hotel is an excellent base from which to explore the island. The rooms are well furnished, the food excellent and the staff attentive. We had a room with a bay view and there are separate villas in the beautiful gardens I would recommend it for a winter break. There are two restaurants, one in the hotel and one in the gardens with very steep steps up to it!

We have just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in this hotel. It was our first trip to the Caribbean, everyone told us we had picked the best spot on our first trip. So there is nothing for it, we will have to come back. The restaurant overlooks the bay, it is hard to tear ones self away. We luckily arrived for the last week of the lobster season & indulged oursleves 6 times in the week. The restaurant were always happy to prepare it of us even if it wasn't on the menu.
The pool is great (there is a 2nd smaller one up the hill), the gardens lovely, the rooms large & comfortable, the staff delightful, friendly and obliging even if they are on caribbean time - it took me 6 hours to adjust, my husband 2 days and then we were really on holidays!
The sea is quite choppy on this side of the island, but it was great to sometimes take the reggae beach across to Port Elisabeth, eat lunch in one of the restaurants and spend the afternoon on St Margaret's Beach - very calm water. Other days we were lazy and stayed in the hotel. The hotel was very quiet after Easter, but that was lovely and the hotel still maintained their themed nights in the restaurant with a band.
I used the spa 3 times, my husband once. The girls were lovely & it was so refreshing for once to have just the treatment & no hard sell on spa products. Can't wait to come back.

This was my wife's first return to Bequia in nearly 30 years and my first ever visit to the Caribbean. Before our holiday I was half expecting Bequia to be typically touristy, but I couldn't have been more wrong, Bequia is a true step back in time and, as I was told on numerous occasions, even by visitors from other islands, this is the Caribbean as it used to be.
Bequia is small, safe, extremely friendly and totally unspoilt. It has fabulous beaches, turquoise seas, characterful local restaurants and the people are charming, friendly and so welcoming
The Bequia Beach Hotel is situated on Friendship Beach, a totally unspoilt beach where you can find locals chatting under the trees and also look out to Mustique, the island of the rich and famous, which is 8 miles offshore.
Within the grounds hotel there are a number of different buildings, each with different accommodation types to suit all tastes. We had a beachfront suite, which looked out on to Friendship Bay and the island of Mustique, which was beautiful. There is nothing like watching the sun come up whilst having an early morning coffee and listening to the ocean roll in on to the beach.
The grounds, including the pool area, where we spent a lot of our time, and gardens were all well maintained.
The hotel has 2 restaurants, however we only used the Bagatelle on the beach where we found the food was of a very good standard. Our only criticism of the restaurant, or perhaps criticism is the wrong word as it's our own personal preference, but we were hoping to experience more Caribbean/local food than what was offered on the menu. Our recommendation would be to have roti's on the lunch menu and offer a Caribbean dish as the daily special on the dinner menu. The food and live music on each of the 3 theme nights were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the BBQ night with music from Kyron and the Clear Eyes, ably assisted by Kong the barman, who got everyone up and dancing on the sand.
If you fancy getting out of the hotel for a day/night to experience other parts of Bequia then you can either walk, however it's fairly hilly, get an open air taxi which are a little expensive or do as the locals do and get a dollar bus.
The hotel staff, from the general manager down to the chamber maids, are all warm and friendly. A big thank you to Chris, Jules, Magnus, Dale, Clinton (the chef) and all the staff who made our stay so memorable.
If you want a Sandals type holiday then Bequia is not the place for you. If you want unspoilt rustic Caribbean where visitors mix with locals then there is no better place to be. Will we be back? ....... most definitely, we've already started planning to go back year.

Dear Neil,

Thank you for your review and comments as to your experience when visiting Bequia. It was a real pleasure to meet your wife and yourself over the duration of your stay. Thank you for taking the time to share details of your stay which will be useful to many of our future guests. In regards to the lack of local flavors on our menu at Bagatelle we have come to the same conclusion and that's why you will be glad to know that we are already planning on including roti and more local dishes on our menus, so they will definitely be available next year when you come back.
I will share your comments with the staff as they will be delighted to know that their work and smile are remembered long after our guests leave our beautiful island.

The Bequia Beach Team and I look forward to welcoming you next year and we hope you had a pleasant flight back home.

Kind regards,

Christopher

Love the decor (not tacky at all), the staff, food, cleanliness and attentiveness (but not overly). Was peaceful and serene. Beautiful location on a beautiful and unspoiled island. Very safe! Perfect weather! They kept our room immaculate! We had a very nice housekeeper, named Donna. She even kept our ice and complimentary water well stocked! Love that the island is not overburdened with tourists. We get to enjoy the locals and their culture. We rented a small Moke for getting around town. We will most definitely return!
