I must make it a point to write review for BBH, although I visited back in May. It was our one year anniversary and while we live in the neighbouring island of Trinidad, we have both never visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines. First of all, the country while geographically and historically similar, was a refreshing break away from home. It possesses a level of authenticity and simplicity that is quite admirable. No large chains or commercialisation, perhaps why some higher profile persons seek its refuge when in need of a complete getaway. The hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of customer care and services available. The staff were extremely attentive to our every needs and the level of individual attention was impressive. Although we visited during low season with just a few guests at the hotel, they carried on all the regular activities such as the cocktail reception for guests, even though there were just six guests in attendance - including my husband and I. I was also pleasantly surprised to learnt that they did a complementary morning yoga class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Although it was just my husband and I who signed up for the class, they did not cancel and the instructor came and carried on her class with us on a deck over-looking the beach. As I do yoga back home, this was a just fabulous inclusion on the trip. And for those who are looking to do yoga on the island, the instructor also has her own studio on Lower Bay Beach. We were happy with a well appointed room. Even though we were on the hill, where I saw others complaining of the workout, we welcomed the little workout, because while on vacation we eat a lot and barely ever make the time to work it out. For the last two nights of our stay, we practically had our own area to ourselves including the 2nd pool. The grounds were impeccably kept and the beach was beautiful and unspoiled, albeit a bit rough at times. They arranged a car rental for us on our request where we practically explored the island within 2 hours. They we just used it to get to the other side of the island where the beaches were more enjoyable for a swim and the town is lined with charming and quaint restaurants and shops. I should also mention that we received a turn down service every evening, which had our room always clean, comfortable and cosy when time for bed. The complementary breakfast was quite nice and included a variety of delicious bread to choose from in the basket and a plate of their seasonal fruits. This place is a lovely vacation spot for anyone looking to truly unwind and take in the beauty of nature... we highly recommend.

Dear Joanne S,

Thank you for taking the time to write such an extensive review of your stay with us, it was such a delight to welcome your husband and yourself on Bequia. We always do our best to accommodate our guests and make sure they have a unique experience with us. We are glad to hear that even though it was quiet and we had low-occupancy it did not affect your stay in any way, and you enjoyed the peacefulness of the property. Our Yoga Instructor Patricia Healey is always pleased to teach our guests, especially when it comes to teaching right above Friendship Beach in the morning! We will share your review with our staff as they will be delighted to hear that you noticed details such as the maintenance of the gardens and the quality of our complimentary breakfast.

We really look forward to welcoming you again on Bequia and wish you all the best.

Warm regards,

Bequia Beach Management

It was particularly nice to be greeted with a drink and welcome from the General Manager, who also wished us well on our departure. This was a much appreciated personal touch.

We stayed in this beautifully maintained hotel for five nights and had an Oceanfront suite. The beach is lovely and you can walk straight off it, shower and dive into a warm swimming pool.

While we made good friends here we did not wish to participate in collective activities or buffets. It was therefore ideal that as well as a very good restaurant by the beach, the hotel had an excellent Italian restaurant just up the slope behind. This allowed us to eat in each night and hear any music from a distance.

We did not hire a car as we had done on previous islands as the taxis are reasonable and the incredibly reasonable local bus service into the interesting capital a real experience!

This is a quieter English style hotel and considerably more reasonable than the northern Caribbean which is dominated by American visitors.

Room tip: Worth top floor overlooking the beach

First of all, Bequia Beach Hotel is on one of the most unspoilt and beautiful beaches I have ever laid on and swum in. A sandy beach (Friendship Bay) on the windward side of the island; there is surf but waves are very short albeit can be high and strong unlike the leeward side which is about half a mile or so away (Lower Bay and Princess Margaret beach).
There are areas of coral and plenty of fish there to see over one side of the bay, so some snorkelling. Kayaks etc available when winds are not too strong.
We had a beachfront (ground floor - 50) suite which is beautifully furnished with two armchairs, very comfortable king size bed and a good size terrace with steamer recliners. Wi-fi in our room was excellent with good download capability. The fridge was of ample size, enough for your bottle of water, wine, juices etc.
The pool area has plenty of sunbeds with a pool of about 20 m long and 1.3 m deep throughout, so no diving!
The hotel spa and gym is a good facility and Monique was very experienced at both massage and facials/nails etc, (so the wife says).
Trips to 'town', Port Elizabeth, are 25$ EC each way (about £8). You could walk but it would be hot and tiring to do in the high humidity. There is good diving from there at Dive Bequia (see separate review) and lots of shops, stalls and restaurants. We liked Papa's and Frangipani.
On the subject of food, Bequia is basic and most restaurants, including Bagatelle and Blue Tropic at the hotel struggle due to lack of resources/imports. At times in the hotel food was quite disappointing, e.g. one evening when there was a 'set BBQ menu' i.e. no live BBQ/buffet (didn't understand why!) I had the set BBQ but my wife did not fancy it; she could not even be provided with a bowl of soup (which is on the room service menu)!

To be fair, Marcus our chef, tried hard to please most of the time and we had a superb birthday (lobster) dinner (Note: lobster season was just ending during our recent visit). I was also served up a delicious lemon iced birthday cake which we shared with all present (it was my 65th).
The menu at Bagatelle changed once during our three weeks, albeit there was a daily special main course. Choice of desserts: two (plus ice cream scoop) virtually never changed.
Breakfast was OK but the buffet ended on our fifth day (why; cost it would seem!?) and after that everything had to be ordered and choice was limited, e.g. lack of yogurts/juices/cheeses/cold platter.

Some people said that Michelin starred chefs had 'guested' here but we certainly saw no evidence of that or anything close in our three weeks.

If it was not for the fabulous location, beautiful gardens expertly tended by Matthew and his team and delightfully friendly staff and general manager, score would have been down a notch.

Dear DickieD25,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your stay with us. We always value such feedback as it enables us to make the necessary improvements to improve the experience of our guests. We are glad that you enjoyed the location, the charming accommodation, the various activities that the resort had to offer, as well as our staff that makes every guest feel special as soon as they land on Bequia.
In regards to the food, we are sorry that you were disappointed with the variety of menus in our two restaurants. We change our menu every week for a second one, which then changes back to the first menu after a week. These 2 different menus change every few months depending on the fresh arrival of produce and the season. As you stayed 3 weeks with us, you had the choice of 2 different menus throughout your stay and we apologize for this inconvenience, we will try to add a third menu to increase the variety of our restaurants.
We will forward your comments in regards to the Breakfast service to our staff as, even though it becomes an a la carte service in order to preserve the freshness of the produce, all the items stay the same and are normally always in stock, so that it does not occur again.

We hope that your next stay with us will give us the opportunity to show you that we take all our reviews very seriously and do our best to create a memorable experience for all our guests.

Best regards,

Bequia Beach Hotel

Very well kept hotel with lovely grounds, great views, clean and comfortable rooms and helpful/accommodating staff.

The room was well kept and amenities included tea/coffee, daily bottled water, umbrella if needed, off spray. You could relax in the bed and see the garden and sea. Very scenic.

The staff catered to every need as they organized taxis into town with short notice, a day-long boat tour of Tobago Cays and Mayreau (which was great) and transfers from and to the ferry from St Vincent. The staff were all very friendly in all areas from reception to housekeeping to restaurants to pool.

The food in Bagatelle Restaurant was very tasty and well presented.

While there is no TV in the room, it was not missed with the scenic views and relaxing atmosphere.

Would recommend as a great place to stay if visiting Bequia.

From the moment the taxi driver provided cool towels and water then phoned ahead with our drinks order from the airport I knew we would be well looked after.

I was amazed by the quality and design of the bedrooms which have been furnished to evoke a feeling of travel from a different era - where else would you find a hotel with a hatstand? A four poster bed, writing desk and a stack of suitcases holding a mirror all contributed to the atmosphere. Yet the room was modern and the bathroom seemed new.

The staff were so friendly and helpful - in fact everyone I met on the island was like that.

It was low season so the hotel was not fully occupied, consequently, the menu in the main restaurant did not change other than the daily special. Blue Tropic was only open three days of the week. Overall, the quality of the food was good and in Blue Tropic was exceptional.

Transport by dollar bus or taxi is readily available and it is possible to walk to or from Port Elizabeth - a bit hot but it had to be done.

The owner was on site for a few days and made a point of speaking with everyone.

Overall, I left with a very positive feeling about the hotel and would not hesitate to return.

Dear Neilclif,

Thank you for your review, it is great to hear that you had the opportunity to take the dollar bus to Port Elizabeth, it is definitely an experience that you will remember for a long time. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you will one day come back, there is so much to see and do around the Grenadines, and Bequia is a great base point to do day trips down to the Cays or to Mayreau. It's great to read that you loved Blue Tropic, it's really a "one of a kind" menu on the island.

We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future,

Best regards,
