We stayed at The Bequia Beach Hotel during October before moving on to Firefly Bequia and then on to Mustique.
The Good: The staff were charming and efficient. The food in the restaurant was excellent - particularly the grilled fish and lobster. The location - moments from beautiful Friendship Bay. The very helpful and attentive owner, Bengt. The rooms were lovely and spacious, if a little fussily decorated for our tastes.
The not so good: The ongoing building work is intrusive, no matter how much effort is made to minimise this. Little niggling details in the rooms such as doors that stick, poor shower pressure, a broken safe and insufficient storage.
Overall, this has the potential to be a really lovely hotel once the building work is complete and we had a super time nonetheless. They just need to 'iron out the creases' and I have to recognise that perhaps anywhere would appear pale by comparison to the near perfect stay that we had at Firelfy.
We would happily return to this hotel and hope that when we do it has reached its full potential.

We stayed at the hotel with our four young children ranging in age from 3-8yo. The resort it self was absolutely beautiful. We arrived in the evening to fresh fruit smoothies (they even had small glasses for the children!) and the resort looked gorgeous as it was tastefully lit up for the night. We could hear the ocean as they escorted us to our rooms. The staff was extremely kind with us as well as our children. The ocean and beach front were beautiful and perfect for swimming with the kids. We really can't say enough good things about the resort. When we visit Bequia again this is where we will stay.

This hotel is definitely raising the standard of accommodation and service on the island. I made my booking via email - it was fast, professional and polite and all arrangements were put in place for my arrival - right down to advising me of the ferry time change and collection!

The hotel has been completely renovated and has almost all of the conveniences a traveler would come to expect. Everything works and is quite new - beds, furniture, finishings, air conditioning - and the style is simple European in nice island green and wood brown tones, which are cool and relaxing after the Caribbean sun. The Pool View room was big enough for two persons and was cleaned regularly and fresh beach towels were always made available. There are no TVs or radios in the rooms - probably for the best! There is suppose to be WiFi but I couldn't find the signal and was graciously allowed to use the PC in the main office.

The hotel is located on Friendship Beach, which is accessible through the hotels grounds. A short mini-bus-taxi ride away is Lower Beach (... calm blue seas, relaxing, clean and very few people - heaven on earth!) and Princess Margaret Beach. There is a nice pool (5-6feet deep) which is great for hanging out and having a fruit punch in the evening. The restaurant on site is adequate though the food, in my humble culinary opinion, is missing the West Indian zest and is a tad expensive.

Construction is still in progress on other areas of the hotel - a villa and pool next door and rooms directly on the beachfront. There was only one day with excessive noise but the owner apologized and, anyway, work was completed by the time we returned from the beach. Also, this hotel is not suited for the physically challenged as it has steep stairs - the main entrance, the pool, the restaurant and the beach are on different levels accessible only by stairs. In fact, getting to a lot of places in Bequia involved steep inclines. . .

All in all, this is a perfect little hotel for getting away and enjoying island life without sacrificing the conveniences.

We just returned from a week here. The owner, Bengt, did not compromise on his attention to detail in service and facilities. He brought in top quality, elegant furnishings from Europe and The States. His passion for details makes this a very upscale and special place. He is frequently on site to insure that his standards are being maintained. The staff is well-trained and very friendly.
We had an ocean view suite which was nicely furnished with Tommy Bahama furniture. The king bed was very comfortable; the mattress was imported from Sweden . It had a lovely garden level patio off the room with a padded rattan chair and foot stool and chaise lounge. I saw a standard room and it also was nice and had a balcony with the same furnishings as our suite.
The grounds are nicely landscaped although some of the plants are still immature. You can bet it will be gorgeous within a couple of years. Although there is still construction going on, it is primarily removed from the guest accommodations. The spa is not yet furnished but my husband had a tour from Bengt and he could tell it was definitely going to be first class.
A continental breakfast is included - juice, very flavorful coffee (imported from Sweden), fresh fruit plate, and toast. We had several meals in the restaurant, and they were flavorful and well-prepared.
My biggest complaint was that there was no sun at the pool in the afternoon but construction of a new and bigger pool will begin shortly and hopefully will be ready by Christmas.

We were looking for a place that had two key features that often contradict each other. First we wanted a beatiful unspoilt island with plenty to see, eat at, swim, relax on and second we wanted the kind of luxury you normally find on the smaller resort islands.
We have always ruled out Bequia because there did not seem to be any high level luxury hotels there.
I guess the newish owner of the Bequi Beach (Bengt, a Scandinavian) saw the opportunity and did something about it because that is exactly what he is turning his hotel into. He is clearly investing big money and has even appointed a top GM who used to be at a major Maldives resort. This guy (Oliver) had only recently arrived but was already making his presence felt.
The place itself used to be a small 12 room hotel called Blue Tropic built up a slope away from the beach and this renovated unit is currently being used as the central part of the new resort whilst the rest is being constructed all the way down to the beautiful bay.
We were a bit worried before we arrived as we had been warned by the owners that construction was still taking place but we decided it was worth taking the risk. What we experienced was just that although to be fair they went to every means to minimise noise. Our problem, is that we arrived at an extremely quiet time just before the Xmas rush and they were trying to cram as much work in so that they could shut down the work over the holidays.
I cannot say the noise was not a problem because it was but the good news is that most of the big construction jobs are well advanced and certainly by next December the whole thing will be complete. When that happens we will be back like a shot.
From what I can see the end result will be amazing with beautiful suites, cottages and rooms. Some will have four poster beds and outdoor baths! They are building another pool, tennis courts, gym, spa and a beach restaurant and I can't wait to see it.
When complete it will full match up to anything Canouan, Peter or young Island can offer PLUS be located on the best island in the Caribbean. It will also be more peaceful than our visit.!

My husband and I and another couple visited Bequia for a three night break over 22nd 23rd 24th February we booked the trip independently from St Lucia and we had a most memorable few days in an absolutely idylic location and at a hotel that far surpassed our expectations. We were met at the ferrydock by the hotels transport (a small golf buggy) and conveyed to the hotel by a friendly and informative member of staff who checked us into the two adjoining rooms with wonderful views over the pool and bay.Very quickly a welcoming cocktail was brought to the room and checks made to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. The room was spacious and very well presented with all fixtures and fittings of a very high standard. The bathroom toiletries were from molton brown and everything from cutlery to crockery was of the highest standard. The staff and the manager Charlotte couldn't be more accomodating assisting with transfers and providing advice re places to visit. We ate in the restaurant on our final evening and like everything else the meal lives up to our expectations.Due to building work next door Charlotte served breakfast on our individual terraces but to be honest the building work didnt really impact upon us as we explored the area and when around the hotel it wasnt a major distraction.I would strongly recommend this hotel for get away from it all break in very comfortable and ambient suroundings where staff will meet your every request with a smile and do their utmost to make your stay as comfortable as they can.I look forward to returning to this hotel.

We decided to spend Christmas on Bequia and knew about this new hotel so we contacted them and booked the familyroom. They gave us a very pleasant Christmas atmosphere; excellent Christmas dish and perfect service. We enjoyed both the pool and the beach. The rooms are so nicely furnished and feels so relaxed. We enjoyed it so much so we spent New Year there also!
We can recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice athmosphere, good service, excellent food, nice beach and needs to come away from all stress!
