I stayed at the Hotel Stelor with my wife and two daughters (11 and 15), and we all agreed that the hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to Scandinavia. The hotel and surroundings are beautiful, the rooms are newly remodeled and comfortable, the owners were very welcoming (and eager to help us find our way around Gotland), the staff were exceedingly friendly, responsive and capable, and the food was delicious. The owners really know how to make guests feel welcome and could teach a thing or two to some of the big luxury hotels out there. It's hard to believe that this is their first hotel. We definitely look forward to staying there again!

This is the kind of place we would expect to find in an Alistair Sawday guide if he ever got to do Sweden. The rooms were set up with interesting Swedish furniture. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - and the owner gave us (unsolicited) a great itinerary for the day we had which was wet. There was a great (and relaxed) breakfast and good food in the restaurant in the evening. We very much enjoyed our stay.

this hotel is beautifully decorated and has an easy relaxing vibe. I would definitely recommend staying here. the hosts/owners are lovely and knowledgeable. The town of Visby is a delightful place to spend the day and only about a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

I visited with friends in June and was thrilled by the choice! This place is run by a very friendly young couple, and it felt like they were the kind of people I'd hang out with by choice: curious, engaging, well traveled and interesting. The main house is a couple of hundred years old, charming and restored with modern touches (but no TV, though they'll loan you an iPad). It's in a very quiet place with sheep out back and a beautiful beach nearby. It was too cold for us Americans To swim but we walked around and enjoyed. They had the barn set up for watching the Euro cup match when we were there and neighbors came by to buy beer and watch. It was really laid back and gorgeous. And the chef is fantastic, he made burgers with bacon and cheese the night of the match and what appeared to be home made potato chips (and veggie burgers). We enjoyed the place very much! You do need to rent a car but that's how to get around Gotland best. Visby is a very beautiful medieval town for a close day trip. The inn keepers will direct you to other sites like a farm that serves wonderful open faced sandwiches, and seafood restaurants. Trust them, they have good taste!

We could not have been made to feel more welcome by the owners. We arrived quite early and did not have a car with us. It was the beginning of low season (very end of August and early September) and we were the only guests. We were going to try and find a cafe or shop to buy something for lunch in Vastergarn but our hosts insisted on making us something to eat. We were glad they did - there would have been nothing in Vastergarn. Being used to the city we did not expect that. The kindness was continued throughout our stay and shown in many different ways.

The location is a rural idyll with beautiful and interestings grounds - we saw a red squirrel, which if you are from England is quite something - and within walking distance of a nature reserve and peaceful beaches. Our bedroom was beautifully done. There is no TV but we were leant an ipad for the duration. It is a really special location. The bedrooms are in an old farmhouse (I think) - sixteenth or seventeenth century - and downstairs is a sort of guests sitting room. It was so atmostpheric sitting and talking there in the candlelight - truly an 'other' experience and a break from hectic urban life.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. It was not officially open when we were there but the owners will cook you delicious dinners on request. Without a car we had to take advantage of this but it was no hardship. Strange for us not to have any choice about where we ate but since the food was wonderful Swedish home cooking it was truly a pleasure.

A tip - although we were perfectly okay for two days without a car probably if we went again we would hire one to give us more choice about where to go and what to see and do.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 4 which was lovely - fanstastic bathroom and fascinating old stove - at the top of...

Hotel Stelor is a short drive south of Visby and situated on an old farm house which has been converted into a modern hotel with old world charm and lush gardens. The rooms are well appointed with local artwork, comfortable bedding and views. Bjorn and his wife were gracious and helpful when we checked in at 11:00 pm in the midst of an intense rain storm and made our trip special. This is not your average B&B -- but a complete Sweden experience.

We had an amazing time at hotel stelor and we highly recommend staying there. We spent 5 days on gotland at the hotel and loved the mixture of the charm and beauty of the old buildings with the modern comforts. The rooms are very well decorated and comfortable. The hotel and restaurant are also designed very well and thoughtfully.
Our time at the hotel was relaxing but there is plenty to do so we were never bored. The hotel is near a nature reserve, an isolated beach, tennis courts, bike paths and other outdoors activities. The grounds of the hotel were picturesque and a relaxing place to spend the afternoon. They have hammocks and beautiful landscaping as well as a friendly hedgehog and sheep.
Bjorn and karin, who run and own the hotel and restaurant, are incredibly kind and accommodating.
The restaurant has excellent food and we ate nearly every meal of our 5 day stay there. The service is friendly and one night there was a great local band that played live music.
Overall, we had an amazing time and would be delighted to have another chance to stay at the hotel stelor.

Room Tip: All the rooms are well designed and newly done
