“Good to know natural history!”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

My 3-year old son and I liked the museum. Although not big, it was full of animals and fossils. There was also an attractive whale hall which showed the skeleton of a big whale and audio of whale and dolphins.
Operation hours are 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, Sun-Thursday, 9-13 on Sat. Entrance fee: 0.5 OMR.

“Flora and fauna of Oman in one location”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

This is a substantial exhibition which gives you a very good picture of the animals and plants to be found in Oman plus the geology. The animals are set in local scenes so it's nice for children too and the whale hall is impressive. The exhibition was set up in the mid 90s and has remaind unchanged since then so some of the exhibits need refreshing but despite that it is well worth a visit.

“Get to know about Oman history and wildlife.”
Reviewed 18 May 2013

We visited the Natural History Museum today (18th May) and very surprised that today the entry was free as it was the Museum Day. Usually they charge 500 baisa per person, children enter free.
You will need little more than an hour to read all the material and move through the whole place. There is also 14 meter skeleton of a humpback whale on display there. Most of the skeletons displayed are of the fish that have been found on the shores of Oman.
The different type of stones found in different parts of Oman have the approximate dates on them, and it is very informative.
