“Nice museum but quite wordy”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

In a renovated 1930s house, the museum traces the history of Muscat starting from 250 million years ago to the present day. Some of the displays are interactive and would be great for school kids. Other rooms I found a bit static though, with a lot of reading required, which I wasn’t really in the mood for.

Great air conditioning! I felt positively cold in some rooms.

“A new found respect for Oman”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

This museum located in the picturesque muttrah port area near the souq is an absolute gem.

One could get lost into the insights it gives into the history of Oman and its people especially with its ancient global links makes a visitor have a new found respect for this beautiful land and its people.

A special word of appreciation to its passionate director, Mr. Malik Al Hinai who has been instrumental in its setting up and running.

“Worth a quick visit”
Reviewed 27 February 2014

We spent about half an hour at this museum. That's all you'll need but it's worth popping in to look at the photo history of the Oman.

“Compact, convenient and fascinating museum”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

This was an excellent museum detailing the history of Muscat starting with the geology and first settlements. The information is presented in a variety of different formats including with photos and art, posters, interactive screens and videos. It provides an excellent insight into Muscat and Oman's tradition and culture and I found the information on Oman's military and political history and recent modernisation particularly interesting.
The entrance fee is nominal and well worth visiting for upto 2-3 hours. It is conveniently located a short walk from the Muttrah Corniche.
