Convenient hotel with well-equipped rooms and friendly staff. Reasonably priced in comparison to other four/five star options.

I have stayd at this hotel a few times and still remember when it was called the gulf hotel.. Im pleased that it hasnt lost any of its charm.. it has a great location close to Qurim.. coffee shop food is good as is dukes bar.. friendly and helpful staff and good rooms worth paying a little extra for the sea view with balcony..

I stayed for a week on business at this hotel. Although an older design, the inside and rooms are kept maticulously clean and have obviously been updated. I stayed on a half board basis and ate in the buffet restaurant every night. All food (particularly the BBQ nights) was of an exceptional standard and I enjoyed every mouthful.
The rooms are large but have no balconies. One good thing, there are a large number of English tv channels therefore great for evening entertainment.
Oman, and therefore this hotel is expensive when compared to other parts of the world (even the uk) and taxis in particular were a bit of a surprise, cost wise.
I will be staying at this hotel on a regular basis for a number of months and if it keeps this standard, I won't be complaining. taxis in particular were a bit of a surprise, cost wise.

We booked the less expensive 'city view' (in reality the parking lot and some trees/greenery), but were upgraded to sea view (4th floor), which turned out to be amazing during the day and at sunset. There was an exterior illumination light that was pointing directly towards our room so at night curtains were a must. At daytime there was loud rattle coming from (a) room(s) directly above that sounded like renovation. The a/c seemed to have a problem too, as the humidity of the first day's bath never seemed to fully leave the room during our 3-day stay. Final thing on the negative side, the seawater on the beach had a boat diesel blanket so uniform one really didn't feel like swimming there.

On the positive side, there is a lot to say: the beach was otherwise wonderful, as was the pool and the poolside bar. The Dukes Bar has a really nice terrace for some evening drinks. Also, there is a public beach right next to the hotel's where one can walk directly during low tide. The room was clean (although one of the drawers had a strong, funky odour inside) and the staff was friendly and helpful. The gym was ok too. The hotel's fidelity card members seem to receive 1 h of free Internet/day. Overall, the truly amazing view from the hotel's rooms, pool and beach make this a place one wants to return to.

Taxis (at least for tourists) in Muscat are very expensive so renting a car is recommended. Also, cards are poorly accepted outside the hotel. There is a Starbucks on the beachside boulevard, about 2 km from the hotel, along with two other nice-looking restaurants. This Starbucks advertises free Internet access, which for sure is free, but doesn't seem to work. Also a word of warning regarding mobile phone operators: of the three mobiles we had brought along, only one would allow for calls and SMS outside Oman. Finally, the impression we received of Omani people was extremely positive, and a boat excursion to see the dolphins is highly recommendable.

Room Tip: The sea view is amazing (if only they cleaned the windows a little...).

Many thanks for your response post. I am glad that you did enjoy your stay with us and you are quite right the views from our hotel really are spectacular, especially the Sunsets. I have asked our Chief Engineer to double check the light outside your room to see if it can be slightly adjusted. However all of our rooms do have full black out curtains.

In the last week we have completed a full soft refurbishment of our rooms, I apologise that you heard some of our team working on these improvements.

I have not heard before of the petrol you mention at the beach, we do have local fisher boats who pass the hotel beach frequently and can only advise that it may have been from one of these that there was this problem. I have asked our Recreation Manager to keep an eye on this for the coming weeks to ensure that it is not a reoccurring problem. Thank you for advising us.

Most mobile phones and Sims work in Oman, most switch automatically to Omantel or Nawras on arrival and these providers are only 5 mins from the hotel just in case you need support.

The hotel does offer one hour free internet per day of stay as you mentioned.

I hope that we will be able to welcome you back to Muscat and to the Crowne Plaza very soon.

We stayed at this hotel for a few days in Sept 2011 during a Visa turn and burn. Absolutely lovely country! From the taxi driver to the hotel staff everyone was so pleasant to deal with. The hotel staff was at your beck and call to make you happy. We upgraded from a ground room to the 5th floor sea view which i was glad we did, I was able to take many great photos just from the room. The bed was very comfortable and the 6 pillows was a plus! View my photos to see the entire room. The food we ordered from the pool bar was overdone but edible as for the buffet lunch at the Tropicana and dinner at Duke's bar they were great. We both indulged in massages which were different than the normal type of massage that were used to but all in all it was a nice experience. The private beach is small but nice. A great place to take photos with the rock formations and small fishing boats. There are crabs nested in the sand near the rocks and many hermit crabs. There are also piles of seashells on the left side of the beach where you can find some beautiful keepers. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone taking a visa trip for a few days or even 1 day, you will not be disappointed. I hope to visit this hotel again!
