“Great experience, excellent staff.”
Reviewed 30 March 2009

Stayed here on 2 separate occasions as holiday makers rather than on business. Had rooms on ground and 3rd floor, 3rd floor was better with view of pool, but both had large and spotless bathrooms, and were well appointed. Pool area is great, and there is a nice green area above the beach if you want to get sun later during the day. The hotel is in the embassy district, we noticed lots of police presence including mounted police, and security staff at the hotel were around but unobtrusive.

There is a supermarket nearby within walking distance if you want to stock up on water, mixers, snacks etc rather than use the minibar which is really expensive. We particularly liked the John Barry bar - great terrace for evening cocktails, glass of wine etc. They do a wine buffet between sun and thur where you can drink what you want from a good selection of wines between 6-9pm for OR13, and even extended this for us when we asked them if we could carry on with food brought over from tuscany restaurant to eat in the bar. Tuscany restuarant was enjoyable, pizzas are massive, pasta portions ditto - we could not finish it.

Tried most of the facilities, all were excellent and the staff were really eager to please. They even remembered us on our second visit. Breakfast is extensive, had a chocolate fountain on the go!

You do need to get taxis to get to the muttrah souk, port area, and most other locations, which can be expensive.

Safari club a bit sleazy, loud music, gyrating band, dodgy looking geezers etc but was quite fun.

Expensive - but felt it was worth it.

The Grand Hyatt is an absolutely beautiful, comfortable hotel with easy access to the public beach. The rooms are well-appointed with comfortable beds, and many have balconies. The muliple pools provide great relief from the hot sun, and with the swim-up bar, you'd think you were in the Caribbean.

We arrived Friday afternoon during the end of Friday brunch and were very impressed by the spread. As others have noted, the several restaurants at the hotel serve decent but very expensive food. We did enjoy the outdoor steakhouse but otherwise wished there were less expensive alternatives.

the grand hyatt muscat is absolutly amazing. the atmosphere is very impressive.
overall it was a very comfortable and relaxing stay, even while having meetings. as there are a lot of events and lunch parties taken place, the hotel is always very busy and maybe not very suitable to have a rest. the pool area is most of the time having shadow, at about 4pm the whole pool area doens´t has any more sun (due to its own buildings). the service at the pool is very bad, we had to wait a very long time for our drinks.

We stayed there 5 days on a trip through Oman. Like the style of it, or not : it is very impressive, wery well looked after. Very helpful staff.
The rooms were spacious, with a gorgeous bathroom. There is a parking lot.

Breakfast buffet is very good, dinner is very good (we tried its different restaurants but fell for it's Italian restaurant : the Tuscany. Not only the meals were excellent, but also its wine list.

However : a few minor points : on our day of arrival, one of the hotel staff stole my pull-over and my desert cap (which I both left in our 4WD).
I had to go two times to the concierge to ask him for supplies for the bathroom : no soap, no toilet paper ... this was disappointing.

There is a shoe shine service which is good if you stuck to black shoes, which I did not. So my brown shoes have all been polished with black polish. The first time this makes one laugh, but ont the third and fourth day this is not so funny any more.

There is internet yes, in the Business Center, but you have to pay a hefty sum and it is incredibly s l o w . You had to go to an internet café to get good speed.

All in all : a good hotel, for business people, not for people who like to take some rest and get oneself spoilt.

We preferred the Chedi and will go back to that hotel.

Grand Hyatt, muscat, wow this is a classic hotel. Have labeled my trip from July 08 however I lived in muscat for 3 years and found Hyatt to be my sanctuary. I was a member so got things a lot cheaper, 50% of meals, and a free night stay, free use of pool (which is stunning to be honest). Great place to unwind and am going again in 3 weeks and eagerly waiting my sun lounger by that pool. Rooms are beautiful, and staff are wonderful, cant do enough for you. Yes it is pricey, but you know what? If you are whinging about the prices you should not be staying here in the first place.
My favorite is the breakfast buffet, and at Ramadan, Iftaar is great, for a selection of food. Night life is great with Safari club and its live music, cococabana is a bit tacky, but hey, go for it, old music but still love it.
Of all the hotels coming up in Muscat, this is still my favorite by far. Love it.

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Muscat for two months in 2007 and was impressed by it's grandeur, but was quickly astounded by the price of some of their meals. The lobby, enormous window looking out onto the pool and ocean, and ornate details are exceptional. However the pricey buffets are to be tried once, but not returned too very often. I'm probably not remembering exact numbers, but I think a glass of wine and buffet was over $65!!

A tremendous note to make here is that the Grand Hyatt is about a 20-25 minute drive from the Old Muttrah Souq where the fun souq shopping is done. There is no neater place to be on a Friday night than on the Corniche, looking out at the Sultan's yacht. Unless you rent a vehicle, you will be taking a lot of taxis around Muscat, which can add up over a long weekend or a week. I definitely suggest renting a car and adventuring out on your own.

The rooms at the Grand Hyatt are quite large and very comfortable. I was a big fan of fresh fruits everyday after work! The gym was quite nice, equipped with a sauna/steamroom, and the pool was very large and never fully crowded. Lots of people sit by the lazy river, but no one really sits off the sides, so their are always spots to lay. Be careful though, as the sun is really really intense!

All in all the Grand Hyatt was a nice hotel to stay in for an extended business trip. Luckily I had a car and got out a lot to experience Muscat the way it was meant to be experienced!

The grand hyatt muscat is a great hotel. Everything about it underlines the luxury brand for which Hyatt is known.

I was fortunate enough to stay in a Grand Suite, which was extreamly spacious and well equiped. The furnishing is of a high quality and a big fluffy duvet and pillows aid a good nights sleep. There is lounge, bedroom and two bathrooms, one with a shower and seperate tub. Everything you would expect was in the room, and even a few things you would not expect - like a yoga mat and an umbrella (in the Middle East remember!)

The rest of the hotel lives up to expectation as well. Nowhere will you find an area in need of decoration or repair. The pool area and foyer also meet expectation.

Throughout the hotel, the staff are all friendly, attentive and always have a smile on their face. Grumpy people just don't seam to work here!

Ok, so it's all great but there must be a catch right? Well yes there is... Don't think all this is cheap! Food and drink in this hotel will see your cash evaporate before your eyes. Don't expect to see a bottle of wine for much less than £50 and a modest dinner for two in the tuscany restaurant will be at least £80 plus drinks.

In summary, great hotel but be prepared to pay for the experience...
