Al Ferdous Hotel Apartments
Reviewed 26 February 2014

The location is a bit off the beach (5 min walking distance), next to a mosque and 1 1/2 halfway decent restaurants. Close to 2 "cold stores" where you find the essential necessities.
Access from Airport and City (Ruwi, Matrah, Muscat) ist good. Everything functions well, service is helpful, friendly staff (Filipinos). Furnished with the essentials. However, the kitchen does not meet our standards: The pans are dented and barely useful for cooking, no wineglasses available, no additional dishes, plates, knives etc. available. No complimentary drinking water.
Mr. Ferdous should invest to make these apartments more habitable.
Car needed to get there. Use your 6th sense to find the place. Pricing is attractive.

Room Tip: Ask for a big room on the second floor, facing south/east or the sea (resp. the Mosque)

Do not stay here, if you don't have a car. Even with a car, get explicit directions before booking -- we could not get them when we booked. Our Garmin GPS could not find the hotel or address, so we spent about an hour asking multiple where to go and finally stumbled on it. Even then, the hotel is @ 20 minutes by car from city center and the Old Muscat. I suggest staying at a hotel in the city center, Mutrah, area of town, such as the Marina Hotel (be sure to ask for a non-smoking room).

The Al Ferdous Hotel Apartments itself is nice. The rooms are big and the staff friendly. The rates are good. It just ain't in a good location.

Room Tip: Get detailed directions before booking

We took the luxury apartment which had a living room (with sea view), kitchen bathroom and bedroom. Although it is an apartment it feels more like a suite at a good 3-star, the pricing is very attractive, considering prices in Muscat nowadays. The service was quite good too. The location is good for those who wish to be close to the airport and the Sultan Qaboos Mosque. If you want to visit the old town it's definitely not the place to stay. Overall a very good experience, highly recommended!

Room Tip: take the luxury apt, it costs only 5 OMR more and offers a beautiful sea view!

Stayed here for two periods of just under 3 weeks. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice rooms - at least the 1 bedroom apartments, I've been in. Have useable kitchens with fridge, microwave and two element stove. Also pots, pans, plates and cutlery. The beach is a very short walk away and well worth walking along in the morning or evening with the locals. Car park underneath. Location is half way between the busy Ruwi/Qurum areas and the airport. Easy to get in and out of too. Supermarkets a short drive away - but local grocery store, coffee shops and laundries close by. Also good, fast Internet! And the water pressure was increased while I was there with some kind of plumbing "fix". Now seems great - mains pressure.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side get a view of the mountains. Spend the little bit extra and get a 1 bedroom...

Pleasant hotel with fast internet, comfortable bed and friendly staff. Small grocery store and misc. shops a short walk away. Third floor shower pressure was bad. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Third floor rooms facing the sea provide a nice view, but the pack of barking dogs woke me on quite...

Hotels in Oman are very pricy. The Al Ferdous is absolutely great for the price we paid, pretty spacious. Compared to the Radisson Blu the value for money is excellent. The service was really good too: when asking for towels, problems with the AC and other requests, the staff reacted instantly.

Here are some tips:
- You need to turn on the hot water at least 30 minutes before you want to shower (switch is next to the light switch).
- Since the hotel is pretty new, you have to tell the taxi driver, that it is close to the Chedi, which is a well know hotel. Pass the Chedi and turn right the next street.
- There are no decent restaurants in walking distance. For breakfast we went to a snackbar walking down the street left from the hotel.
- Oposite to the hotel is a small supermarket

This hotel is located between the airport and the city, with easy access to the main roads.
Staff is nice, basic English speakers, you should have no problems.
Price is ok. The apartment is small but cozy. The kitchen is not very well equipped, so don't relay on that to cook your meal: just one small microwave is present and some basic cutlery.
The bathroom is small and not very well equipped: beside towels and shampoo, you will need to bring everything else. Also the shower was not great at all, very slow water flow. Room and bed were ok.
Internet in this hotel was great (download around 12 mb/s, up around 9-10 mb/s) and very easy to access. Surroundings are ok, low-middle class neighborhood with a supermarket in front of the hotel, along with a laundry and a coffee shop. We never felt unsafe. You have a beach 5 minutes walking from the hotel.
Overall an ok experience, I would book again.
