When our daughter had a gymnastics competition scheduled for August in Uitenhage, we decided to make a family holiday of it. After some research, we decided to stay at Valley Bushveld Country Lodge. The entire experience, from booking to staying, was incredible. Kerneels and Vanessa, our hosts, bent over backwards to accommodate our family. With four children 10 and under, we weren't their usual visitors, but they none-the-less made us feel at home. So much so, the kids couldn't wait to greet Vanessa and Kerneels in the morning and evening at meal times. The meals were amazing: delicious and plenty! We enjoyed the "suiwer Afrikaner" dishes prepared from game Kerneels himself hunted. Dinnertimes were filled with great conversation and we found ourselves learning a lot! Kerneels and Vanessa didn't mind our hundreds of questions about animals, hunting, conservation and more. Our rooms were comfortable and overlooked the valley. Picturesque for sure! We enjoyed walks in the bush and I even got to see giraffes on an early morning run to the main gates. We left feeling like we had been visiting the home of good friends and will definitely return if we head to the Eastern Cape again. I wrote a blog post about our stay, available here: http://bit.ly/valleybushveldlodge
