“A truly unique and memorable experience!”
Reviewed 18 November 2009

We've just returned from our first trip to South Africa and undoubtedly one of the highlights was our stay at The Colonial with Molly and Conor O'Hagan. It all started with a wonderfully warm welcome from Molly which made us feel at home instantly, the hospitality continued that evening with one of Molly's dinners which was excellent and accompanied by Conor's house red which matched any other pinotage that I've tasted. We took a trip the following day to Addo with Conor as our guide, his knowledge and passion for the area is quite inspirational and he certainly made sure that we saw a wide range of animals, finishing off with a glass of wine(or 2) and a snack before returning to the Colonial for a shower and change. Our dinner that evening at a local restaurant was booked by Molly and we were transported by Conor. If you're planning to do Addo this is the way to go!..

I spent a few delightful evenings at the Colonial on Arundal and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The guest suites are huge, extremely clean and very well appointed. The bed and other furniture was very comfortable. Set on a working citrus farm, the grounds are beautiful and bird life abounds. Perhaps the best part of staying at the Colonial was the owners, Molly and Conor. Simply delightful people who are very knowledgeable about the history and wildlife of this amazing part of South Africa. I highly recommend staying with these folks.

We were welcomed by our lovely hosts, Molly and Conor and immediatly felt at home. Our room was warm, cosy and very comfortable and Molly's home cooked food was outstanding. Highlights of our stay were the game - drive with Conor, relaxing in the outdoor bath and taking the dog for a walk around the citrus farms. Molly also organised other trips for us to the cheetah and reptile farms. Highly recommended place to stay!

This was a fantastic find. While we looked at several of the luxury lodges in the area - it was our honeymoon trip - we figured that for the time we would actually spend at the accomodation they would not be worth the huge rates they charge. So, we went for something that looked nice on the website, had good reviews, and offered the chance of organised tours of Addo. What we got was the above and much, much more. Molly had already impressed us enormously before we arrived by organising our 2 day game watching itinerary with an impressive degree of detail and thought; what followed can only be described as the best welcome and hospitality that we received on our whole trip. From a lovely card and bottle of wine to celebarate our marriage, tips on restaurants and wonderful tales of their own safari experiences at breakfast we were so glad that we stayed at the Colonial. This would have all been enough for any guest - yet somehow the experience got even better by virtue of the drive we did with Connor, Molly's husband. Conor must have done the drive hundreds of times, yet he made it feel fresh and individual - a rare feat to pull off I would imagine. He knows the park inside out and always seemed to be in the right place to capture the animals in all their glory - including lions protecting the prey they had killed the night before (the fact that we are able to watch the lion's in action as we ate some lovely sandwiches prepared by Molly and a beer made for one of those holiday memories that will stay with us forever!). So, in summary, if you have been lucky enought to stumble accross this guest house on the internet or trip advisor then please, do yourself a favour, and book your stay straight away.

Molly and Connor are the perfect hosts - warm and friendly and attentive and helpful. Molly's cuisine is to die for and Connor (a registered game guide) was brilliant when he drove us around the Addo elephant game park - quite made the holiday. This is a 'rolls royce' B&B - go for their gold package.

It says 4 star on the guides but this should be changed to 6 star! Molly and Conor are the perfect hosts and they welcome you into an idyllic location where the suites are out of this world. We had dinner one night and it was superb, the breakfasts were first class. Conor took us on a game drive at Addo and this was the best game drive of our lives (including when we went on to Shamwari!). There was of course Zack who is a star in his own right and probably the friendliest dog in the world. To cap it all off we even had our car washed in the morning. You couldn't ask for more - Molly even got recommendations for meals in Franschoek and booked us dinner for later in the week. I just wish that we had based our entire stay around The Colonial.

We arrived October 1 and stayed for two days. We had such a good time and felt so welcome.

Molly helped us get the best out of our vacation, both in the Addo area but we kept following her suggestions after leaving Addo and we had a really good time. On our second day we went on a game drive with Conor and it could not have been better.
A special thank's goes to Zack who really adopted us during our stay!

I highly recommend The Colonial!
