I stayed 3 nights as a base for visiting Addo National Park. Liz, Peter and the team are fabulous hosts. You're made to feel like you're staying in their home rather than than lodging there. The rooms were well sized, well appointed and exceptionally clean. My room was on the ground floor and a lovely seating area outside the room which was perfect for relaxing with a G&T at sunset.

The daily breakfast is a treat in itself. Most of the products are sourced from their garden or from farms nearby. Peter bakes the bread fresh every morning and Liz's homemade jams are SO tasty. Be sure to try the passion fruit one.

Zanette in the office was efficient with all correspondence and nothing seemed to be a bother. What blew me away most though was on the morning if my arrival I received an email seeing if they would like me to get a take away in for my arrival as I was planning on arriving very late and she didn't want me to be hungry (as it's a small village and nothing would be open). Wow, now that is service.

The hotel is just a two minute drive from the south gate (which is a lot less touristy than the north gate) and I think a better point of entry.

I highly recommend the Happy Jackal if you plan on visiting the Addo area. I'll most certainly be back ......

Room Tip: Take one oft he rooms on the ground floor for the patio area

stayed here 4 nights with Liz, Peter and her great team, and felt very well looked after.
spotless, large room with outdoor covered seating and a great view.
extremely comfortable bed with high quality linen
I had fresh roses from the garden in the bathroom!
breakfast was really delicious, cooked to order with Peter's (now famous) home made bread with Liz's home made jams
on the doorstep of the southern entrance to Addo, also an easy drive to many game reserves, which was our reason to base ourselves here and go for 2 days out in game parks and then self drive in Addo
all in all, I liked everything, but I disliked leaving!
would highly recommend and will stay here next time we are in the area

In all fairness, we only stayed for 1 night, but we enjoyed the little time we had quite a bit.
The whole house has a nice atmosphere with interesting decorations.
We especially enjoyed the dinner (home-made lasagne, easily capable of competing with a good restaurant) in the evening and the breakfast (home-made bread) in the morning afterwards. Both were delicious - we did not plan on eating at the guest house at first, but we certainly did not regret it. Our room was not huge, but had quite enough space for the 2 of us and in general was really to our liking. Our hosts really made an effort to make us feel welcome and succeeded. We only regret that we could not stay longer. We would love to come back.

This is a very comfortable place to stay and really convenient for visits to Addo. We had a lovely room opening onto the garden with a lovely view of the river. The breakfasts were really good and everyone was very helpful and friendly.

I have just returned from South Africa and would highly recommend this lovely this lovely Guest House. Liz and Peter, the owners, arranged our visits to Addo and Scotia and suggested restaurants in the area. (Anyone visiting this area should understand that this is not a big town.) Our room was clean and well appointed and the breakfasts were excellent, we were very happy and would return there. The whole place had a very warm and welcoming feel, only wish we had time to use the pool.

Room Tip: We had a large room which accommodated three adults and also contained a settee. The room had a fri...
