Hopewell Lodge

What a fabulous stay we had! From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Rooms are fantastic, views breathtaking and the staff next to none. Having had a hectic few days previous to our trip we couldn't have asked for a better place to relax, take in the wildlife and just simply be.

Bruce introduced us to the wonderful animals during a mesmerising game drive....we saw Cheetah and cubs, giraffe and zebra to name but a few, ending in a lovely sundowner out in the bush.

The food was delicious, and being from a rather rainy part of the world, being able to sit outside in such beautiful surroundings for dinner was a very special experience.
I could see stars for miles and indeed from my bed in the lovely lodge.

Attention to detail is what Hopewell does best. Quite simply breathtaking.

In November 2009 we flew to South Africa to what can only be described as the most de luxe holiday we have ever experienced. The highlight of our stay was a few days spent at the Hopewell Private Game Reserve, 35 miles from Port Elizabeth. We were picked up at the airport by Manager/Warden, Bruce Little, who has been in the business for most of his working life. Hopewell has been developed from scratch over a period of 8 years, from a run down cattle ranch to an exclusive Private Game Reserve and holiday retreat. A luxurious, thatched game lodge and chalet was constructed on what was 8000 acres of redundant farm land. The remaining land has been allowed to return to wilderness, allowing indigenous animals to be reintroduced The Lodge, nestling on the hillside, a few miles from the coast, can accommodate just two couples plus another couple in the luxurious, exclusive Nguni suite, which is set apart from the lodge and is extremely private; ideal for honeymoon couples or for those special occasions.
The interior of the suite is tastefully decorated in African style and is glass sided, with a viewing deck overlooking the country enabling you to spot game. Bruce is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who enjoys making every game drive interesting. We were amazed when he walked into the bush calling out to a female cheetah and her cubs, which then proceeded to follow him and lay down by the Jeep for a photo shoot !
If you get the chance to go, grab it with both hands. You wont regret it

Wow, what a great experience! Luxurious accommodation, fantastic service and very good food rates Hopewell as one of the best places I’ve stayed (the service was, in my opinion, even better than the 7 star Burj al Arab in Dubai!!). The rooms/suites are very luxurious, and you can enjoy a spectacular view (and maybe even animals) from your bed. The pictures on their website look great, but they can’t really justify how it actually is….
And for a Norwegian the game drive felt like visiting the animals in their natural habitat, probably due to the size of the reserve. We visited another park as well and even if it was nice to see big herds of animals, it felt more like the animals were on display and more “zoo-like”.
Hopewell gives you great value for money, and I will highly recommend it to everyone.

We were so well received! The game drive was special- especially seeing the cheetah and her cubs. In the morning the elephants from the breakfast table .
The staff very friendly . Food excellent ! The view from from our private room was such a treat . The outdoor shower experience . We came away feeling we were truly spoiled . We can recommended it for many things . Celebration of an anniversary , Honeymooners, or just purely to revive oneself from busyness of life. Carlos and Paula Caldas Jhb

If excellence is what you're after, Hopewell's got it. Bruce, Tammi, Tania and the chef, Lumke, were simply the best. Thanks for a truly wow bush experience, loved the food, boma and game drives. Keep it up.

Our ranger Bruce was remarkable and really made the whole experience one that we will never forget. Many thanks to the staff at Hopewell and I have no doubt the next time we are in Africa we will be staying here!

We spent a brilliant 3 days at Hopewell and were over whelmed by the hospitality and professionalism of the staff. The food, wine, service and game viewing were of the highest quality and nothing was too much trouble. Bruce the Manager and Ranger was extremley knowledgable and he found us lots of game to see on every game drive. Thanks to Tammy the lodge manageress for looking after us so well. We can't wait to return!
