“The perfect gateway to and hospitality out of Addo Elephant Park”
Reviewed 6 April 2012

An amazing experience which was simply too short with 1 1/2 days (2 nights). Etta and her team were the perfect hosts. Thanks once again, Etta, for the unforgettable one-day tour through Addo and the ability to be so close to dozens of elephants, buffeloes and other park inhabtants. Your knowledge of the park, its pants and animals was so enriching and precious. Last but not least, Etta's enthusiasm so genuine.

Room Tip: We had booked the African Big-5 suite which offered a private terrace over-looking the Sundays river...

We recently returned from 3 weeks holiday in South Africa which started with 3 nights at the Dung Beetle. We really loved the place and it is ideally situated for entry to Addo. Derek and Etta provided very kind hospitality and Etta managed to find lion in the park on our first game drive. Seeing the young male lion climbing the tree is something we will always remember. The accommodation and breakfast were first class and the boat trip on the Sundays River to climb the sand dunes was a great experience. Thank you once again Derek & Etta and we hope to meet again.

We 2 couples from Sweden staied at Dungbeetle for 3 nights and that was an absolutely unforgettably stay. So Dear Etta & Derek, thank you so much for for all your kindness and hospitality. We enjoyed the trip to Addo, the game drive and the trip on Sundays river, everthing was execllent from start to leaving. The breakfast with the newly baked bred, marmelads of different kind, egg and bacon and the special prickly pears served at the deck overlooking the river is to be rememberd. We will highly recommend this place.

Etta and Derick are awesome hosts and have a truly beautiful river lodge where we had breakfast served on the deck overlooking the beautiful Sunday's river. They have many many activities for the more adventurous travellers and you will be collected right from their jetty at the guest house! ;) Their tranquil 4 star luxury suites with air conditioning (a must in summer) are truly amazing!

Thank you for an awesome time on the Sunday's river!

We agree with all the previous five star reviews already posted. We had the three day package and thoroughly enjoyed all the activities especially the game drive with Derek to Addo. The trip on the Sunday's river is a must. Breakfast on the deck overlooking the river is to be remembered.

Our first trip to S. Africa. Two nights stay booked by our friends from Knysna and we were not disappointed. Great welcome, wonderful breakfast. B&B only but super pub short walk down the road, serving good food. Originally going to self drive the Addo, but extremely pleased we went with Etta who was a mine of information and spotted animals we would have totally missed, not to mention her detailed knowledge of the medicinal qualities of the local vegetation.Wonderful lady with a dry sense of humour married to an affable ex- Brit.
Many thanks for a great stay on 16/17th February 2012

Room Tip: We had one of the "side" rooms with no view, but perfectly acceptable.

We stayed here for two nights with friends and couldn't have been more welcomed. Peaceful, beautiful setting with lovely, spotlessly clean rooms, wonderful breakfasts, with freshly squeezed fruit juice, home made bread and two hosts who could not have done more for us. We had initially planned to do a self drive around Addo, but after hearing the glowing reports from other guests on their return, we decided at the very last minute to take a guided tour. We were so glad we did. Etta was a mine of information, has the eyes of a hawk and seemed to find us almost every animal on our list of 'must see's'. What was wonderful about her was her obvious love of the flora and fauna around us - she not only knew what the plants were, but also their medicinal properties as well. Etta was able to communicate with other local guides, was more than happy to point other hapless drivers, in their own cars, in the right direction for the best sitings. We had a wonderful stay and couldn't praise them highly enough. Very surprised by the comments on one of the other reviews, as we were put under no pressure at all to go on any of the activities organised by Derek & Etta. Prices were very reasonable also. Hope to be back one day.

Room Tip: The two rooms with balconies overlooking the river be the best to go for, but the other rooms, which...
