We stayed three nights at the Dungbeetle Lodge and enjoyed every minute. Very clean, great breakfast and the perfect place to explore the Addo Elepant Park. We spent a whole day in the park with Derek and will never forget this adventure to see elephants live. Derek answered all questions and his knowledge is amazing. Etta and Derek - thanks a lot for these unforgettable days.

My fiancé and I stayed with Etta and Derek in July 2013 and this revue is very overdue, for which I apologise. I have seen Dungbeetle River Lodge emerge from the days when Etta and Derek started it and this stay was a real eye opener as to how their passion has created what I would rate, one of the finest B&B's I have stayed in. The establishment is beautiful, comfortable and really well appointed. What we enjoyed most was the friendliness and the trouble Etta and Derek went to, to make us feel really at home with them and the other guests.
We met some really wonderful folk from Germany over breakfasts that were freshly prepared with all sorts of home cooked "goodies".
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We look forward to visiting you again soon.

Room Tip: Front room overlooking the river is stunning.

This was our last stop on our trip to South Africa , where we had enjoyed staying in some beautiful guest houses. Our initial impression of the guest hose was that it was a little tired. We were welcomed by one of the staff as Etta and Derek were out on game drives. The lady was very efficient , showed us to our rooms and offered drinks etc , then booked us on a nearby safari park trip and dinner , which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The rooms both overlooking the river with nice balconies were decorated in an African theme , which initially felt a bit oppressive , however we did get used to the style and the beds were very comfortable .
The breakfast was very good , the freshly made fruit juices and breads are lovely.
Derek took us on game drive into addo park. He was an excellent guide and we loved the trip.
We did enjoy our stay here , Derek and Etta are great hosts and want guest to enjoy their stay but it does feel as though you have been transported back a couple of decades, but if you want to relax this is no bad thing. If you are someone who needs to be in constant communication with the outside world via wi-fi etc this is not the place for you as wi-fi although advertised is in reality not available, and you are not the type of guest they are catering for.

This was our first stay here, but we had a lovely welcome from Derek, while Etta was out on a game drive. It is small, with only 5 rooms, so very personal and cosy.the rooms were comfortable and the fridge stocked with drinks and honesty bar.The view over the Sundays River was beautiful.Breakfast was home cooked with home made bread and freshly squeezed juice ! The trips were all organised beforehand, Safari in Addo Elephant Park with Derek, Safari with a private game drive, our cruise on the Sundays river, and our amazing township tour with Sisa, an unforgettable experience ! The only downside is the b+b aspect, the local pub is OK and the food good but we only ate there once ! All in all a lovely warm cosy welcome from Derek + Etta, Thank You .

We had a great three-days stay with Derek and Etta; they are super hosts, very knowledgeable and great ambassadors for the whole area, not just the Addo. We'd got there after quite a long drive and, with Derek and Etta out on park tours, one of the staff greeted us. While this was fine, we were just left feeling a little anxious about our choice. However, we had no reason to be concerned, breakfast is excellent and Etta tries to oblige with whatever you request. The lodge itself is nicely styled in African decor etc and our room (Africa Suite) had a lovely terrace overlooking the river. The overall setting is lovely, right on the river but, given that this is only B&B, the evening dining choices in the neighbourhood extend to the local pub. Now, the fillet is excellent and the host there charming, but it really felt like we'd stumbled into a 1970s Midwest USA roadhouse. Again don't let first impressions fool you. Minor point as most people probably only stay 2 or 3 days and might well eat on the game reserve one of those....

Room Tip: I think only Africa and Sea Eagle suites have the river-facing terrace. But there is lots of ground floor terrace....
