I had dinner at this 1 star Michelin rated establishment last night with my husband and two old friends visiting us for a short while (they are living in Zambia). We live just up the street - so it's a nice walk back home after a delicious meal. It's located next to the Bellevue train station, 4 train stops (12 minutes) out of the Montparnass train station (Paris) in the town of Meudon - so, relatively easy to get to from the city I have been coming here occasionally for several years, and find that the place has evolved from a decent higher end local restaurant to what can now be described as an exemplary "French Restaurant" like in the movies, with excellent attention to service - the waiters were efficient, friendly and engaged to just the right degree (maybe a little too much - e.g. when the flow of our conversation around the table gets interrupted a little too much) - but that is a very minor complaint. We enjoyed the 3 personalities who floated in and out of our table's "bubble". We all had the "Carte Blanche" menu, with the wine accompaniment, for 102 euros each. 5 courses, each served with a carefully selected wine from different parts of France. An in each case the sommelier provided a dynamic description of the wine and what to expect, and why it accompanied the particular dish. The food was top notch French cuisine - this is not an "all you can eat smorgasborg" but rather a carefully balanced processino of modest portions, which, at the end of the meal, does not leave you with a bloated "I can't believe I ate all that" feeling (though tipsy a little, you may be). I won't get into the details of the meal - but it was delicious - all 5 courses. Highly recommended, and for a 1 star Michelin restaurant, I suppose the price is reasonable (our friends payed! Thanks Dan and Barb!). I give it a 3-4 rating for atmosphere - the restaurant is sober, and not fancy inside - understated - but nothing stands out in terms of architecture, decor or view. The other patrons seemed an amiable lot, and we were warmly greeted by the staff (and owner I believe) upon arrival. I will be going again, preferably invited by friends ;-)

We dine in this restaurant a number of times every year, most often as a couple and sometimes with friends or family. We have never been disappointed. From the impeccable service (especially from the waiter who has been there since the time before it was the Escarbille), and always excellent advice from the sommnaliers who really know their stuff, and have often 'deniched' Burgundy wines that are hard to get as a private individual. One can opt for the 'carte blanche' which is a bit of a lucky dip. You are asked upfront what flavours and fish and meats you like and then each course is a surprise. Or you can go for the a la carte menu which changes every so often. Each dish is a treat with an explosion of flavours and textures. If you call in advance and mention it is a birthday then they can prepare a plate in advance with 'bonne anniversaire xxx' in chocolate piping or equivalent which accompanies the desert: We did this for our 12 year old son last summer and he was delighted; Added to that he also really loved the food. This restaurant definitely deserves its ratings, and frankly is excellent value for money. It is hard to find such good food and service at these rates. There is a car valet service, but you can usually find somewhere to park nearby. In the summer you can also enjoy the very cute courtyard.
