“A lunchtime meal that complemented a wonderful walk around the cascades”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Sometimes a 'spur of the moment' decision works out really well and an unplanned lunchtime meal 'Les Pins' after visiting the falls made a memorable day for us.
The staff were polite and efficient and we were shown to a very nice table (spotless) in the middle of the terrace.
We selected from the 'menu du jour', the food was fine, well presented and well served.
So - for us one of those great days when everything turns out better than you had hoped !

We dined here one night in July. We had tried to contact them for a reservation via e-mail but they never responded. They did pick up the phone when we called and still had a table for the day after.

Basically, a nice terrace and good food. We were 4 persons and 3 of us had starters. They surprised us when they offered the fourth person a little salad as well. Such a nice gesture!

If i remember correctly, I had the salade fraicheur with mozarella and a little brown bread with pesto to start with and a fish of the day as main course. So, a very nice evening meal.

One more thing: We had heard of the specialty of this restaurant which is a sort of fish soup (le pot au feu de mers, I think) and we intended to take it. This unfortunately was not possible because this dish and some others like the vongole need to be ordered in advance.

We went there for a dinner without reservation. The waiter who seemed to be kind dressed the table with dirty table underclothes. Actually the waiter looked kind of stressed as we didn't looked as the standard mature French or American couple they are usually expecting I guess.

Everything that was happening during the dinner looked as the amateur performance in the small town theatre but not the real restaurant. Imposing waiter, plate covers, etc. But in fact everything under that was .... Plastic tables and chairs, cheap apparel of waiters. The food was absolutely blank, even not warm enough. Seafood raviolis tasted like frozen supermarket product. The magrit de canard was overdone and chewy.

The most astonishing thing was the moment of serving the wine. We ordered two bottles of wine consequently – white for the starters and red with the main course – and both were opened and left on the table without offering to taste or pour into the glasses. Quite rude and unprofessional.

The funniest thing was deserts. The restaurant who presents itself as a quality restaurant would not make the deserts as at the kids’ amusement park. They were so huge, so poor taste and I would say funny looking.

Conlusion: faux restaurant serving edible but plain food.

Actually you can get some fun from dining there – it’s almost a perfect caricature of the proper French restaurant :)

We found the food excellent. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere delightfully.
I had the beef which was cooked to perfection (rare) with a gastronomic butter sauce, it was wonderful. My wife had the ecrevisse which she enjoyed very much. The complementary lentil soup was a nice touch.
Having come from Australia we found the prices very reasonable and can't wait to return.

I didn't have the pleasure to stay at the hotel, but based on a local recommendation I went to the restaurant. The food is just plain poor, it is just a meal to feed you, with no care for quality. My potato piree' was out of the pack, which is not acceptable in France, for the price range of their menu. You can have better food in other restaurants in the area.
