“Superb - best for miles around Deauville”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

I find it hard to fault this hotel and to recognise some of the issues raised by other guests. Have stayed there twice recently - once in a Duplex room which was sumptuous and a real bargain at €160 per night, and once in a garden room in a separate "round house". Massive room and excellent value at just €120 a night. Try finding that kind of luxury in London for that price!
Food was superb - dinner in the 1899 is a class act. Top quality cooking, discrete and attentive service, beautifully laid tables and place setting. Again amazing value for a meal of this quality including drinks and a stunning bottle wine for €100 for two. Breakfast is also a treat for the variety and quality of food on offer. If you can't find something you like in the buffet, you probably are wasting your time in France.

yes there is gravel - but the staff will transport your bags in a golf buggy if you ask. You don't have to haul your bag by hand.

And all hotels have smokers somewhere and the odd noisy guest - you can't blame the hotel for that. It's pretty easy to escape them as the hotel is very spacious.

All the staff are superb - nothing too much trouble and they will happily speak English to you if your French isn't up to the mark.

Can't wait to return. It's only ten minutes out of Deauville/Trouville.

Room Tip: Take one of the newer rooms in the extension buildings.

We booked a garden suite with a living room and separate bedroom. The rooms are modern and large, the bed – huge at 2x2metres. The huge walk in shower was wonderful. The toilet is separate and I got locked in there for 30 terrifying minutes – just as well someone was at home with me at the time. There are a few other niggles. The bedside light is set so high it shines in your eyes while trying to read, and in your partner’s eyes if they’re trying to sleep. There is no air-conditioning or fans – we were there in early June and a couple of hot nights – we survived, but I’d hate to be there mid-August. The situation, while quiet – it’s miles from no-where – wasn’t so quiet in the room with people thumping about upstairs and the rooms are designed around 4 adjoining courtyards, so if you want to sit outside, be prepared for a smoker from an adjoining room to blow their foul breath into your space – and you can hear every word said. We didn’t use the pool or spa facilities as we were attending D-Day activities the 4 nights we stayed. We should have stayed closer to the beaches near Caen or Bayeaux as we spent a fortune on fuel and wasted a lot of time travelling, but that was our mistake for not checking distances more thoroughly. There is a lot of gravel everywhere, you can't avoid rolling your carry-ons over it, it's damaged the wheels on my Samsonite, so I'm not happy about it. The staff were lovely, but due to the rather fanciful and impractical layout of the rooms (my pet hates: noise and smokers) it’s only worth 3 stars.

Location,  Staff, Room,  Food & Amenities

My wife & I just recently completed 6 nights in Normandy taking part in the 70th D Day Anniversary  and spent two nights at Les Manoirs as we wanted to spend two night around Deauville/Trueville & Honflor and after extensive research chose Les Manoirs.  We loved the location & staff, but I must admit we were stunned with the physical condition and comfort of the 3 level room on property that we spent two nights and unfortunately this put a serious overtone on our stay at the property. Suggesting the property has air conditioning is an outright mis-representaion (read below). I'll share my thoughts focusing on Location, Staff, Room, Food & Amenities and do my best to stay as objective as possible.

Location

We are in love with the location around Deauville/Trueville as well as Hon-flour. The property fits the bill with wonderful access to each city. On our last trip 10 years ago we stayed in Deauville and were taken by the shared communities around both Deauville/Treuville and tried it again. It's a  location you cannot go wrong in.

Les Manor has a nice location near both communities; though is a 10 minute ride or so from either. Les Manoir is on it's own unique country environment.

Staff

The staff is very cordial and accommodating; in the classical French way. They have wonderful theatrics, try hard to please and were very accommodating from start to finish of our two night stay.

Room

There's not much positive to say about the room. It does have Wifi, which works well which is a plus. However, the hotel says it was build in the mid 70's and the room has the look and feel of a mid 60's unit that has not seen any work in 50 years. To start, the paint was peeling and chipping off almost every wall. The carpet was filthy. The unit is extremely vertical and the stairs, done in a country heavy wood feel were cracked and creaked; giving concern as to their safety. A musty, mildew or mold smell was present upon chickening into the room and we assumed this was because the air-conditioning was not on; though upon asking the question we learned that the unit was not air conditioner and we were told to open the windows. A nice suggestion for 1960, but upon trying the natural way of cooling a huge bee flew into our room and did not leave for 30 minutes. No point expanding on this description of the room, but suffice it to say this reminded me of a similar experience at a low cost budget hotel in USA 10 years ago. Even a 1 star rating for the room to high.

Food

The property had two very lovely areas to dine in; both the main dining room 1889 and the small dining room off the bar.  We never used the small room and I had breakfast just once in 1889. It was 25 euro's, and though tasty I can't say it was worth 25 euro's. In my mind for a breakfast that expensive an omelet bar and other amenities would of been nice rather that just a fancy buffet.

Amenities

Les Manoirs features an indoor pool, spa & fitness center.  The pool did not interest us, we never spent any time in the spa. I'll focus my comments on the fitness center. First it was terrific to see a fitness center and the center had plenty of cardio equipment along with several weight training sets of equipment. All good. Bad is the location in an open corner environment between a set of rooms and the pool. Stretching would be very difficult as as I remember the floor was solid rock and their were not any mats in the fitness center for usage

The bar area was lovely and we enjoyed spending some time there and latter in the evening when it cooled down enjoyed having a drink in the outdoor space right outside the bar area.

Parking was abundant and very close to the entrance to the property.

Summary

The team and staff were great, but even they can't make up for a dated building desperately in need of capital improvements and a tired and dated look in both common area and of course rooms such as ours. The property is very over-rated and their have to be many better properties available for the money in the area.

We stayed here as part of our visit to Normandy for the 70th D-Day anniversary. We booked 3 rooms on the top floor of one of the annexes in the grounds of the hotel. The staff in reception and in the restaurants were very helpful and friendly. Having a two year old in our party we felt that dining in the formal restaurant would not be appropriate but we wanted to sample it's excellent menu. This request was dealt with quickly and positively by the staff. The result being a superb meal served on the more relaxed lounge terrace area, thus enabling our granddaughter to run around to her hearts content without disturbing other diners. The rooms were spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean as you would except from this standard of hotel. A lovely afternoon was spent swimming in the pool and then relaxing on one of many sun loungers whilst soaking up the sun's rays and sipping shandy. A shower of rain didn't stop us from travelling to the restaurant for breakfast, one quick phone call and a golf buggy arrived to whisk us up there. Surrounding grounds peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle meant a good nights sleep for all. Not a cheap hotel but well worth the expense if you want to treat yourself. The Greek president stayed here the same time as we did. It's not everyday you see a motor cavalcade with outriders on your way back to your room after breakfast!!! Only wish we could stay longer. This hotel fully deserves it's number one rating.

I was pleasantly surprised to find we had been upgraded to a suite. This suite was larger than most New York apartments. I was very glad we were spending a few days there in order to be able to take advantage of our surroundings. We even had a backyard with table & chairs! The Manoirs are very interesting round buildings with several guest rooms in each. The concierge shuttles you around in a golf cart. The amenities are top notch. The spa and common areas fabulous. The restaurant is quite grand and the prices match. The food is very, very good. And served in a first class manner. The resort if somewhat far from the historical WWII areas, but we managed to see quite a bit. Honfleur is not far at all and a must see, as well as Rouen for Notre Dame Cathedrale.

Modern, classy facilities built in typical timbered Norman style set in fabulous landscaped grounds. You`ll get impeccable service from its LMDT's employees with a bit of gallic flair and je ne sais quoi.

Not so easy to find first time but actually not far from Deauville or autoroute to Pont L'Eveque and A13. We stayed for D Day anniversary visits to beaches and Overlord locations. All were in reasonable distance and pretty much anywhere in Calvados region.

Stayed in room 16 - a 1st floor room in building one approached by outside staircase. Lovely it was too. I can`t see why you`d need or want to pay more for duplex or larger rooms. A short walk to main building, reception, spa, pool, bar, lounge and dining room. Reception has supply of brollies if wet.

Pool is really nice [Size and temperature] it opens onto patio with loungers outside. Didn`t use Spa or sauna but pretty sure they would be nice. Gym equipment is limited but adequate. Help yourself to one of the many bicycles available for guests to borrow. The local lanes are a treat to ride and admire scenery and grand houses dotted around.

We eat both nights in the lounge bar. Informal and less expensive than Le 1899. Our server, whose name I don`t recall was exceptional - he was friendly, and humourous and attentive. The menu in this bar isn`t huge but food was perfectly nice and you`d be fine for a couple of nights.

We paid just under 200 euros for a meal for 4 with wine. Menu in 1899 appears haute cuisine but with prices to match.

Breakfast in 1899 at just over 20 Euros pp was a decent hot & cold buffet selection. In nice weather it is served in a rose garden terrace.

Reckon we'd stay here again if considering a short hop across the channel - not to use as a touring base like this visit but as a treat weekend with the hotel being the destination itself.

After leaving the motorway, along a lot of “d”-roads ” throughout the Nord of France, you can get there easily with GPS. Eventually we found the driveway to the hotel with a first impression: space and tranquility. An area (7ha) and a few solitaire villas surround the main building. The annex is a step away from the main building. A warm and elegant welcome at the check-in desk gives you a first good feeling. An “open garden”, centrally located, gives that same feeling of space. The Director of the film “un homme et une femme” was the previous owner. The “Groupe Floirat” has made adjustments without violating the authenticity of the building in this region. We had chosen this hotel for its nearby location, it’s class and the features when the weather is not so good. My wife celebrated her birthday and the end of a great career. The hotel provided a special treatment. You feel, as a guest, the involvement in every emotional moment. We had opted for half board and a “triplex” room in the main building. A fireplace is made available to make it even cozier. The dinner and the breakfast-buffet had a very high quality. Every evening there was a different choice of starters, main courses and desserts. The dishes ware very good and nice presented. This was our first stay here but we are already looking forward to the next one.
A stay at “Les Manoirs de Tourgéville” is highly recommended.
