“Not 4star”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Small rooms and rather dingy but comfortable enough. Some of the food was good and breakfast was fine, although the fruit juice was very watery and there was a long queue for the hot drinks dispenser. The dinners were very disappointing.
Certainly not 4star.

Another Riviera Traveller same complaints, terrible food, shocking tasting fruit juice, waiting staff who were totally inept at the art of service,we ate out 2 of the three night we were there.Shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor every time it was used, complained to hotel reception but nothing was done whlist we were there, small rooms, quite dingy for a so called 4 star hotel, towels and bed linen frayed and tatty.
Why do a reputable travel company like Riviera continue to use such a hotel after all the bad reviews.
The swimming pool and gardens are its only good parts.
Last word avoid this Hotel.

The room was comfortable but small and the hotel was nowhere near four star quality. The reception staff were unhelpful and the food we were served was very disappointing. I am not usually a fussy eater - I will eat what is put in front of me - but I had to leave at least half of each meal I was served in this hotel.

The pool and garden area was lovely, although we had very little time to make use of it.

We travelled with Riviera Travel and stayed at the hotel for three nights. We had a scheduled late arrival on the first night and the hotel had arranged for a cold meal which was fair enough. However, we had asked Riviera to ensure we could get vegetarian meals and this message had not got down to the catering at the hotel. Where the problem was we do not know but resulted in there not being a meal available for the three vegetarians on the trip. The kitchen was closed but the staff found some cheese and tomotoes !! Many of the others on the tour disliked what they were given but there was no choice.
The meals for the other days were adequate but not brilliant and not of a four star status.

The room was small and a bit dark. The design of the bathroom was poor with you having to climb around the toilet to get into the bath for a shower. There was mould around the bath seal and the shower tap.

I guess the hotel gets the four stars from the pool and garden areas but the hotel itself does not deserve it. There are two small lifts which are totally inadequate to cater for a largish party arriving and I resorted to using the stairs, even carrying our bags. There is no luggage service which I found suprising for a four star hotel.

It is not an hotel I would choose if I was an independant traveller. There was a steep climb to walk into Agrigento town. On the plus side there is a supermarket a short walk away where you could purchase bottled water at a quarter of the hotel price. There is no room control of the airconditioning but you can get it turned off by reception. We found that if you opened the window there was a micro switch which then turned the air con off. Close the window and it came back on. Some of our fellow travellers said that their rooms were very small so we may have been lucky with ours although ours was not large by any means. You could just walk around each side of the bed.

We travelled with J V round Sicily and most of the hotels were excellent. This was an exception.
From the unfriendly welcome when we arrived to the rude receptionist who was talking on the phone and just took my key without meeting my eyes or making any sign of thanks at the end of our visit it was very poor. Most of us had something wrong with our rooms - air con, broken light bulbs etc - and no apologies were forthcoming. Thank goodness we were taken to a restaurant to eat in the evening as breakfast here was the poorest we have had. Tasteless reconstituted fruit juice, poor selection of food and dreadful coffee machines. The whole hotel looks tired and could do with a big makeover including the staff. Most disappointing.

Room Tip: Don;t even try.

Stay one night in September 2013 as part of a hectic 7 day tour of Sicily organised by Voyages Jules Verne. Hotel and room had a rather unwelcoming and dull feel. Proposed price of Wi-Fi was unreasonably high. Attractive pool shut at 7pm. Why? There wasn't a life guard needing to go off shift and the poolside bar looked set for a longer opening. Adequate breakfast in plain surrounding. Safe in room. Believe Hotel della Valle no long used by VJV. Whatever their reasoning, I would not use it again. Suspect its price was the main attraction. Better alternatives must exist.

We were pleased when arriving at 11 pm to be told there was food ready for us. It was poor and set the tone for our three day stay. Large dollops of pasta and risotto followed by a dull main course, and a slice of cake is not 4 star hotel food. Every night salad arrived when we had finished. Breakfast was limited in scope and quality. The public rooms and bedrooms looked tired and the whole place could do with a makeover. There was no bar. The stairways were usually unlit at night. The shower was filthy and the connecting pipe had obviously not been cleaned for ages. The best part was the swimming pool which was large, clean, and looked good. Our group left hoping that the next hotel could only be better.

Room Tip: Away from the lifts.
