“Nice hotel in a one of a kind location”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

After looking at the other reviews of this hotel, we decided to splurge in order to stay in the Valley of Temples. We had a view of the Concordia temple from our patio that was quite spectacular at night. The room was nice but it had two twin beds that were billed as a "king" bed and they were made up separately with about two inches between them. Not good for a romantic evening. Also, even though our room was across from the front desk, we could not get a good wi-fi signal in the room so had to hang out in the lobby. We were travelling around Sicily, making plans as we went so having wi-fi was important to us; may not be to others. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant; my husband had a steak and it was great. But the view from the restaurant is really the great thing. Go early enough to get a table in front. Also, we had a complementary breakfast as part of our package and it was a very very nice meal.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the temple. It's worth it.

In my experience, Hotel Villa Athena takes the cake. We arrived late at night, looking pretty rough after a few days of road tripping. The staff greeted us by our names, and walked us to the most beautiful villa I've ever had the privilege of staying in. The suite had fresh fruit placed on the living room table, a spacious bathroom and spa room, and a huge white bed in a bedroom connected to an equally impressive outdoor terrace. All of that aside, the view was of Concordia Temple, lit on a hill high within the Valley of Temples. Indescribable. In the morning, a waiter brought coffee and latte to our terrace on a silver platter. I hate to be cliché , but this place was magical. The price is just as much, but achievable during the off-season.

Villa Athena is in a very priviledged location within the Valley of Temples, with a direct view of the Concordia Temple.
Others have sung its praises, all deserved! This hotel is spotlessly maintained and the staff all provide a degree of professional service that is a real pleasure.
The outdoor restaurant has a fantastic view, a fantastically diverse menu, and an excellent wine list.
The musician providing the musical entertainment, Graziano Mossuto, really made the evenings we dined there a memorable experience!

Room Tip: If you can manage it, the Temple View Suites are truly breathtaking, with a direct view of Concordia...

Any way you slice it, it is a long drive from Syracuse or Palermo to Agrigento. And some of the guide books are discouraging about the town. Don't listen. Arrive to is a fascinating place with a powerful mix of African and Arab influence, a spectacular setting and a magnificent Greek temple complex overlooking the valley and the sea. And Hotel Villa Athena is an instant pleasure to arrive at, with immaculate decor, white gloved staff and beautiful aspects of the temple complex. The restaurant is not cheap, but neither is the decor or quality of the food, so relax and enjoy luxury at a great price I'm an unparalleled location.

Room Tip: The best choice in Agrigento

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay in this beautiful hotel. Its greatest asset is its magnificent position overlooking the Ancient Greek temples. Make sure you have dinner in the restaurant, which overlooks this magnificent world heritage site. You will never forget it. We had very good food. The service was excellent. It is worth booking a room with views over the ruins. The hotel is very clean and efficiently run. The excellent staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the place to stay in Agrigento!

A lovely hotel in the best location in the city, a short stroll to the entrance to the temples and with a terrific unobstructed view of the best preserved of of the temples. Large comfortable rooms with very helpful staff, especially Claudia at the front desk.

This place is wonderful - really a beautiful surprise. All the other reviews said - I am so glad we spent a little more money and went for the villa Athena. It was well worth it - honestly it was the best 'value' of the trip. The view is just breath taking and you feel like you are a million miles from nowhere. Wish we could have lingered longer!

Room Tip: You'll want a temple-view room but even our side room with little balcony had a good clear angle...
