We started our Sicilian holiday with three days at the Villa Athena. It is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Agrigento to experience the ancient world. The unrivalled views over the Temples of Concordia and Juno are truly spectacular both by day and night. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and our rooms comfortable and stylish. The outdoor eating areas and pool are ideal for a relaxing break. Breakfast was excellent and our evening meals were, with one exception, imaginative traditional dishes using local ingredients. Service was, at times, a little slow.

You cannot find a better choice in Agrigento; this hotel is really amazing, we had a room with a small terrace where you could step out in the night and look directly to the temples! Unbelievable, I could not stop watching.
I stayed more than ten years ago in the same hotel and since then it has been well restored, now it's perfect.

Rooms are in a country villa. The setting is spectacular; views of the Valley of the Temples from rooms and from the outdoor dining terrace. Comfortable beds. Air conditioning that actually works. Upscale dining. Nice and helpful staff. Terrific breakfast - you can squeeze your own fresh orange juice if you want! And a pool! Best hotel we stayed in while in Sicily.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the Valley are best!

Of all the hotels we stayed in our recent trip to Italy, this one was the most beautiful. It was perfect. The setting is incomparable. The rooms are elegant and comfortable. The restaurant --for dinner you eat on a terrace with a view of a temple on the hill--offers some of the best food I can recall eating. The food has an experimental, modern twist but is unmistakably Italian, and the waiters are utter pros. The pool is absolutely lovely, and the location of the hotel---amid the Valley of Temples--is like something out of a fantasy. The other places we stayed throughout Italy were much simpler and less formal--this is not a hotel to stay in if you are a flip flops/t-shirt kind of person, in my opinion--but it was an extraordinary, unforgettable experience from which to explore the area, which we loved. Also, the staff's recommendations--pizza at Marco Polo's, a nearby beach (Scala del Turchi) with a limestone cliff backdrop--were also excellent. I can't recommend this place highly enough--I miss the chirping birds, the light, the glamour and simplicity of it.

We had a lovely stay at the Villa Athena. We were on the first floor and our room had a terrace directly overlooking the Temple Concordia and the pool if you could take your eyes away from the view of the whole Valley of the Temples. A porthole window in the bathroom also had a direct view of the temple. The room had blue and white tiles on the floor, a very comfortable bed and a wonderful shower, but was otherwise fairly plain. The outdoor furniture on our terrace was a bit worn and needs replacing/refinishing. We had lunch on the hotel’s terrace and had delicious innovative salads and sandwiches with a great local wine recommended by the excellent server. Dinner was also delicious with top notch service (I had the fresh tuna which was wonderful) and the experience of dining while we overlooked the lighted ruins was incredible. Breakfast the next morning was very nice as well. The front desk staff was competent but nothing special (everywhere else we stayed in Sicily, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful). Nevertheless, this is THE place to stay in Agrigento—not only is the location amazing, but the hotel itself is very nice, the restaurant is excellent, and we will definitely stay there again when we return.
