“The nicest place we stayed in Sicily”
Reviewed 9 May 2010

The hotel had been totally renovated and it was a great pleasure staying here. The bathroom was luxurious, the room was comfortable, and the service a delight. The room overlooked the Valley of the Temples. Since we planned this as a once in a lifetime visit, we felt the price was well worthwhile.
The room, the private balcony, the restaurant, the pool and gardens made our visit a delight. In the evening, we ate at the outdoor restaurant, overlooking the Temple -- it was perfect. We were within walking distance of the Valley of the Temples. Our stay here allowed us to park the car and not use it for two days, which was a welcome benefit.
The one small issue was a kitchen that did not fully coordinate food presentation e.g., poached eggs on toast were served as poached eggs with the toast arriving 10-15 minutes later. Also, there is sometimes a shortage of dining room staff if there are more customers than usual. In spite of these hiccups,we would certainly recommend
this hotel.

This beautifully appointed hotel is in one of the most stunning locations I have ever experienced in my life. From the room balcony (also the breakfast area and the restaurant terrace) it feels as if you could touch the central temple with your finger! Our room was spotless and very comfortable and we found the staff very accomodating and friendly. We checked in with the intention of trying out various area restaurants, but never felt the need to go anywhere else. The occasion of our trip was our wedding anniversary and we found this an exquisitely romantic place to celebrate!

Dear customer service,

Since we are given the call for feedback please find ours after our short stay in your hotel:
Rooms and infrastructure along with the view on the temples were simply perfect and very beautiful!

Though, we were very surprised by the quality of the service at the restaurant:
* Chairs pooled on the ground for 10 meters,
* Twice we had servers asking the same question,
* At breakfast, the server came with 2 plates for 2 different clients, while bringing the first plate to the first table, bread felt on the ground. She had no other choice than going to the second table, serve the other clients and come back to clean the place,
* Same server did let fresh fruit glass fall just next to another client table,
* while being served for breakfast and trying to understand how the order would be raised, we receive the comment we did not need to choose (except for coffee or thee), it was all the same for everyone whereas it was obviously not the case as other tables did receive different things on their plates, ...
* While eating my breakfast, I just finished my first bread and my plate was taken away even though I was not finished. I took an other peace of bread on a tinny bother plate left on the table clearly showing the servers they were way too fast in cleaning-up the table but no one did react and they did leave me with my bother mess and little plate

Overall, this and other small anecdotes did leave us (and apparently other clients around us) with a very sad feeling of an hotel were servers did not communicate sufficiently, were the quality on the infrastructure was indeed up to the expectation but were the quality in the service was way lower than one would have expected for a 5 star hotel. More over, for such service quality at the restaurant, I found it incredibly expensive! Indeed, food was good but nowhere close to what a 5 star hotel would be expected to serve.

I hope above comments will be helpful in finding a better balance in your service and I would clearly suggest some of your servers to go to other 5 stars hotels to understand how to better communicate, react and serve clients as they would expect it would be.

Many thanks and I remain available would you have further questions,

Nicolas Peten (--)

Fantastic location, in the Valley of the Temples with stunning views of the Temple of Concorde from the hotel gardens and outdoor restaurant. The room was lovely, though the hotel wasn't geared up yet for quite hot weather and couldn't switch on the air-con for the rooms. But the experience was completely compromised by service which was, at best, indifferent, particularly in the restaurant where we lost count of the number of times we got the wrong order, mainly at breakfast time since one experience in the evening restaurant was more than enough and we didn't go back. The maitre d' clearly couldn't be bothered with us and was constantly distracted from taking our order, looking away frequently when we were talking to him. We weren't the only ones to be infuriated by his patronising and rude attitude; during our one visit, another table of people came with the express and planned intention of winding him up, having obviously experienced the same as us previously. And with starters at 25 euros for a plate of pretty ordinary pasta and 35 euros for a tiny main course, we think we should have been able to expect much better. Stay at the hotel - much the nicest looking one in the area - and eat at the Trattoria dei Templi - a stiff hike, but really worth it!

This totally rebuilt hotel has superb rooms, food and staff. It couldn't be more superbly located and dining on the terrace is a divine experience.

The Villa Athena is perfectly located a short walk from the valley of the temples. The hotel is luxurious with beautifully decorated rooms and stunning views of the valley.

We had a problem with our first room but this was resolved without any difficulty by reception.

Service was good although not quite up to the standard one would expect from this calabre of hotel. Give it a few years and this hotel will be a real gem.

Just one night in a superior room here whilst we visted the nearby Greek ruins, for which it is ideally situated about a 500 meter walk away. I'd asked for a Temple view room which we didn't get albeit we had a "porthole" in the bathroom which allowed us to see the main temple. The room was spacious and pleasantly stylish, and was reasonable value. I note that the hotel considers itself five star - now whilst iI don't want to give the impression of anything other than a good hotel , it didn't have the look or feel of a five start establishment to us.

Dinner was decent enough , but it cost 145E for two courses each, a bottle of wine from the cheaper end of the list, water and coffee. Whilst the food was pleasant , in no way was it good enough or imaginative enough to begin to justify those sorts of prices. We couldn't work out why the hotel's dining room didn't have a view of the floodlit temples.

Service levels varied. The receptionist was efficient and helpful.
