During our visit to Agrigento we stayed at Villa Amico. We arrived in Agrigento on a Public Holiday. Our arrival time was much later than expected because of some train services not running and our need to travel by bus from Catania.

On arrival in Agrigento we phoned our host Pier for instructions on how to get to Villa Amico. He very kindly voluntered to collect us from the bus station. This was much appreciated because the traffic was very bad and bus services were limited because of the holiday.

We found the accommodation basic but adequate. During our stay Pier offered us very good advice on where to eat and on the best way for us to get to the Valley of the Temples (Bus services). Since we were staying only one night in Agrigento we had limited time and Pier's advice enabled us to see everything we had planned.

He very kindly allowed us to keep a key after check out and leave our luggage in the Villa. He told us that if we returned by a midday he would take us to the train station in the city for our journey onward to Palermo.

We accepted his offer and everything worked out perfectly. He did not charge for any of the transport he provided between the city and Villa Amico and when offered a substantial tip he declined saying it was all part of the service.

Our host made our stay in Agrigento a stress free and memorable experience.

If you visit Agrigento, this is the place to stay. There are few options, and all expensive, close to the ruins. But we would recommend Villa Amico even for those who aren't on a budget, because the host is delightful. We arrived by train. Our host picked us up at the train station, drove us back to his home, and then after we settled in he dropped us back at the ruins. Later that evening, we walked from our room down to the beach (I think about 1/2 mile) and found lots of evening activity as well as numerous, reasonably priced restaurants (all with outdoor seating which is one of the true charms of traveling in Italy). After dinner, we walked back to our room only to find our host waiting to drive us to see the ruins lit up at night. Our night tour was stunning. Breakfast (included in the rates) the next morning was fine, and then our host drove us and our luggage to the local bus stop so we could catch a bus back to the train station. There were also bikes available for our use and parking for those with a car. Our room had a balcony with table and chairs. We felt perfectly safe in this location, and really enjoyed our stay at Villa Amico.

My wife and I spent three days at the Villa Amico in June 2005. It was an excellent quality B&B - nice rooms, well kept, parking, good location in San Leone/Agrigento -near the seafront, but far enough away from the crowds at night!

However, the best thing was meeting Mr Amico, the owner. He was extremely friendly and helpful and his cheerfulness added to our enjoyment. We would happily return if we are ever in Agrigento again.

After spending over a week driving around Sicily, my friend and I had our last few days in agrigento at Villa Amico.
The host (pierdomenico) picked us up from the train station. He also showed us the best places in Agrigento to eat, drink and see, and drove for 2 hours to show us the temples and the city in the night
(Piero 's free Night Tours )
He also gave us free maps and detailed directions
Our room was clean quiet and large
The breakfast was ok also if ordinary
We really felt like we were staying with a friend
