We chose this hotel from the Rough Guide and TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed, apart from the breakfast which was very dull indeed. It is very close to the station, which was ideal for us, and near to the town centre.

We had a twin room which was adequate although not large and with no view. The bathroom was quite big and had everything we needed although it was a bit scruffy!

We found the staff a bit mixed - they were mainly friendly but nothing was done about a broken light which we reported as soon as we arrived and we were not allowed to leave our bags for a couple of hours after we checked out.

We really liked Agrigento, in spite of all we had read about it. We found a very nice bar in front of San Francesco and also had good, well priced and interesting meals on both nights of our stay. We particularly enjoyed eating at Manhattan where they had an excellent antipasti buffet and very good pasta dishes at a very reasonable price with friendly service.

The bus to the temples was fine once we got a ticket - the bus station had apparently run out! The temples are stunning and we were able to buy a simple lunch at the cafe there - our first taste of arancini. The we walked to the museum, which was further than we thought in the heat, and later got the bus back to town.

Overall I would say this is a jolly good place to stay for a couple of nights but don't expect luxury and do pop out for a freshly made panini two minutes down the road to supplement your breakfast.

This hotel is what you would expect from a budget hotel. No more, no less, though there are some things which deserve special notice:

- our room and bathroom were very clean
- the hotel is located near the railway station, the bus station and the city centre, so all is close by. The temple valley however is some kilometres away.
- the staff is very friendly and the people at the check-in desk speak English very well

When we were in Agrigento the local paper had a front page article about the decline of tourists the town is attracting. And to be honest I can understand that. The superb ruins are off course worth a visit, but the beach area a few kilometers from the city is not as wonderful as many other beach areas in Sicily. The old town itself has some charms but at least the same amount of traps. We had big difficulties in finding the gems. The same goes for hotels. There are some supposedly nice hotels close to the ruins but that means missing out on the nightlife in the town, and for my wife and me that's half the stay wherever we go.
Hotel Amici was one of few hotels in the middle of the city. Staff was helpful and very nice. Rooms were clean. We were surprised when we even had a balcony (not much view though). The hotel is in need of general refurbishment but there isn't anything wrong the furniture, it's just that it looks old. We paid 75 Euro per night so price compared to what we got wasn't all bad. Breakfast? Yes, but not good. We dropped it for the second day of our stay.
A little tip, we saw some really nice B&B's in the old town. Modern furnishing, good prices and even views. If I had to visit Agrigento again I think that would be the value for money bet.

This was a nice and friendly hotel, I would recommend to my friends. Don't expect anything fancy, but a clean and well-maintained hotel, for a few nights' visiting.

We were only staying one night to go to agrigento - the staff were very friendly, however the rooms themselves, despite clean are nothing to write home about. It is good value for what it is but I wouldn't want to stay more than 1/2 days
