B&B Terrazze di Montelusa
Ranked #2 of 225 Agrigento B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 1 May 2014

It is difficult to add anything new about this fabulous B&B - it is deserving of its #1 ranking. We arrived by train and so parking (which is a problem in most tourist towns in Sicily) wasn't an issue. The location is superb with not only views of the temples from the terrace but is just off the main shopping street Via Luigi Pirandello with ATMs, cafes and quality shoe and clothing shops. These are passed on the way to the bus stop where for a few Euro, you can get transport to the Temples. There is also a fruit and vegetable shop in the same block as the B&B to stock up on food and other essentials if, like us, you are utilising the kitchen. We had a separate bedroom with a louge/eating area and kitchenette and fridge. To the right - again along Via Luigi Pirandello, is another collection of shops including a grocer and chemist and seats where you can sit at night and watch the lights of the Temple district twinkle into life
Francesco, the owner is another reason to stay here and again much has been said of his knowledge, love and commitment to making your time in Agrigento as enjoyable as possible. Others have mentioned the two flights of stairs you have to climb and this to me is the only issue that might be a problem.
Thank you again Francesco for providing us with a perfect stay.

Traveling from one side of the island to the other we knew we needed some time to explore the temples and town of Agrigento. One of our party was not feeling up to walking around the temples so arrived as an advance party. Struggled up the two flights of stairs to reception, was welcomed to the sanctuary of the B&B and under Francesco's wing. Can't speak more highly of Francesco, the place is beautiful, he showed us around with understandable pride, fabulous outlook over city and temples from roof terraces, exquisitely furnished, substantial breakfast. Scary drive, but after the third circuit of the town we had it down pat

Franceso is a charming and caring host. As the B+B is not so easy to find he provided us with detailed driving instructions - that did yet not prevent me from driving past the B+B. When I realized 100 m further that I must have missed the B+B - I called Francesco and he asked me whether I drive a red Fiat Panda - I answered 'yes' and he told me that he saw a sign of hesitance in my driving, when passing the Piazza Lena. So Francesco came down and rescued us.
Francesco sitting next me - we spent an enchanted 10 minutes, Francesco acting as tourist guide in 3 languages (with us he used Italian, French and English) explaining to us the names of the streets, local history and stories. Finally we arrived at the B+B where Francesco offered his parking spot (in front of the entrance) to us.
The B+B name 'Terrazze' (terraces) is absolutely correct - there are 3 large terraces one for sun-rise, one for midday sun (and breakfast) and a sun-set terrace!
The first 2 ones give a splendid view over the 'valley of temples'.
Our room was 204 - a suite consisting of a study and a bedroom and another private terrace. However I would recommend to get a room on the third floor which gives the possibilty to see the sun-rise from that terrace.
The breakfast is served on the terrazze and it is well prepared by Francesco and a helping hand. It shows a wide variety of sweet and salty options. We liked especially the selection of homemade orange and mandarine marmelades.
And in the late afternoon we also discovered the large sign of the B+B (hanging out of Francesco's office) while coming back from our discovery walk of Agrigento.

Many thanks again for so much care and attention Francesco - Agrigento without you could not be half as good!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor (see Review) - then you have all day Long Access to all terraces

Best B&B of my recent Sicilian tour: Because of the terraces and views, the flat furnished in grand style and the personal treatment. Not easy to find nearby parking space, but the owner made it possible.

This IS the no 1 property in Sicily.
Francesco is a refined, warm, polite and friendly host. The rooms are very large, fully airconditioned, some with adjoining sitting room, and superb, no expense spared furnishings including the ensuite bathrooms. Cleanliness is immaculate, and breakfast a true culinary experience from the penthouse level, with a magnificent view of Agrigento and its temples below.. We had to come back to this place just to enjoy the lavish accommodation. Location is great too as it is smack in the centre of town.
Well done Francesco - we will be back - again and again!

Room Tip: No worries here - all rooms a 5 star level

First and foremost -Francesco is a wonderful host! I was worried about staying 1 night (10/8/2013) because we always try and stay a minimum 2 nights in order to experience a place - but we just wanted to see the Valley of the Temples and move on. So glad we chose this amazing B&B - My husband and I were always laughing with Francesco - he is such a funny and kind-hearted man who dearly loves Agrigento and his lovely Villa.
Breakfast was a relaxed buffet on the terrace- with so many things to try - we were set for the day with the amount of food provided. Agrigento has a lovely feel and the views to the valley are magical at night.
To avoid any driving & parking problems we opted to park "down in the start of town" and paid for a quick taxi ride up to the B&B (we were given a station-waggon as our hire car instead of a Fiat) - so it eliminated all stress.
Our spotlessly clean 'room' was huge - we had a large bedroom overlooking the square, generous shower and a seperate "lounge room" with kitchennette & TV.
We thought Agrigento was all about the temples but Francesco made the whole stay memorable - thankyou for you kindness.

The best thing about Agrigento was staying with Francesco in his beautifully restored ancestral home. We stayed 3 nights and loved every minute. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like close friends. Our bedroom was comfortable and spacious with ample storage space for clothes and luggage. There was a complimentary mini bar, satellite TV and free wi fi. The bathroom was spacious, had an excellent shower and was well equipped with a generous supply of quality towels, toiletries and hairdryer. The location was excellent near to local restaurants and shops.
The wow factor was the rooftop terrace where we were served drinks and nibbles on arrival and given an opportunity to meet other guests and swop interesting stories. Francesco was the perfect host and rose to the occasion making sure that we had everything that we needed pouring glasses of wine and making pots of tea while giving us useful information about the area. The view from the terrace of the Valley of the Temples in the evening sunlight was unforgettable.
Breakfast, served on the terrace, was a generous choice of fresh fruit, cereals, quality breads and pastries plus local cheeses and cooked eggs.
In the reception lounge there was a grand piano and my special memory of Agrigento is playing a duet with Francesco. Thank you so much Francesco for making our stay with you so very special.
