“Beware peacocks!!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Much of what has been said before regarding this B&B applies. We stayed here, with friends, for 5 nights in June 2014 something which is unusual I think as most people only stayed 1-2 nights. Ideally placed adjacent to the Temples which, it has to be said, is their main draw. Vincenzo, the owner, spoke little English but tried his best to be helpful/friendly as did all the staff there. We travelled with friends so he put us in adjoining rooms with a little kitchen area inbetween which was excellent for us. Breakfast is quite poor, (choice-wise) - just croissants, HEAVY bread rolls and plain yoighurt. Fruit/meats/cheeses/cake, as is normal in Italy, would have been good. The views from the terrace though made up for the lack of variety. The peacocks are lovely to look at but when one lands on the roof and crows at 6am, it's not the best!! The gardens are very natural with lots of seating areas which is very good. Not a lot of thought has been given to the pool area as it is very small and only has two sunbeds though I appreciate people really didn't come here to sit by the pool. The cleanliness of the rooms was spotless but the seats/pathways could be tidied up a little more. Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending San Marco for a short stay. We had no trouble at all finding it or any difficulty with the road but we are experienced travellers in Italy and have been down much worse roads than that. Maybe if there had been heavy rain for several days though it would be another matter.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with friends, try and have the rooms with the connecting kitchen area.

our feelings about the beautiful Villa San Marco are mixed. Its setting is superb, overlooking the temples across a green valley and in gardens to which a lot of thought has been given, imaginative planting, well-sited seating areas, tasteful objets placed just so. The peacocks seemed fitting - but kept me awake!
The same thought did not seem to have been extended to our room, which was rather basic and worn. The bathroom was very clean but needs updating and a few hooks for towels and so on would help.
The room was dark and the bed very uncomfortable. I was so disappointed when entering as our first night in a cheaper B&B in Cinsi had led me to expect better, But we really appreciated the kitchenette, all the more so as it was the only way to get a hot drink in the morning!
Bread at breakfast was delicious but other items would have improved it, especially as the coffee was tepid at best. And synthetic orange juice in the land of citrus?!
We didn't mind the track; when we began visiting Italy years ago most country roads were like that and our gps took us there easily. (A sign on the turning from the road might help.)
The location for temples was excellent.

This B&B is near the end of a long, unmarked dirt road. Located in an olive grove, it is a romantic setting, especially with its close views of the Greek Temples. Even with our GPS and the owner's directions, it took us over a half an hour to find this place. It would have been easier if we had been given the coordinates (N 37° 17.705 E 013° 35.065), as this place doesn't really have an address.

Vincenzo was our host, and he was very friendly and helpful.

Pros:
1) Beautiful view of the temples, especially at night.
2) Peacocks wandering the grounds.
3) Lots of shade and outdoor seating options.
4) We had a small kitchen between two of the rooms we rented.
5) Short and easy drive to the Temple Park.

Cons:
1) Hard to find.
2) No restaurants within walking distance (but Vincenzo will place a pizza order for you if you wish)
3) Although peacocks are attractive birds and fun to watch, they make very loud calls around sunrise - like a rooster.
4) Rooms, though they are clean and have everything you need, seem rather dated and worn.

This B&B is special: simple and relaxed, full of charm, reside outside of town, surrounded by olives and citrus tree, lots of animals walking around (the peacock may be a minus, at 6 AM..., but we consider this as part of the deal), very friendly stuff and above all, less than a kilometer walking from the valley of the temple, with an incredible view of the temples. Sitting there at sunset , looking at the temples with a beer (you take from the cooler and put 2 Euros in a box. I'm not mentioning this only for the price, but to demonstrate the attitude there...)
We would have gladly stayed there a few days, if we had the spare days.

Room Tip: if you are 4-5 people rooms 6 & 7 have a joined internal kitchen and table, and seams ideal.

This very pleasant B&B is run by a nice family. It was difficult to find, but the owner was very nice and came to get us when we could not locate the entrance. Rooms are very spacious, and the setting is unbelievable--you look out at the temples! Very relaxing and enjoyable.

Great place, would go again and again. View from the gardens of floodlt temples, lots of interesting stuff in the gardens, benches, peacocks, swimming pool. Really comfortable rooms, dining areas, honesty bar for wine, etc. Great owners. Nice to chat with the other interesting residents. Pizza takeaway from town. Excellent breakfast
Downside- only one, the access road is a bit of a shocker, I woulsn't ghave fancied it after dark, very rutted, so had pizza rather than to town for a restaurant.
To grt there , find the petrol garage on the right on the route to the temples from Agrigento. the paved road down the hill next to the garage , then press on down a unmade-up track fotr about 1.5 ks. It's on the left. Ask at the garage if in doubt, and he will point to it. Worth the trouble.

It took an hour to find (as the directions were not very clear, even using Google Maps as well as the one provided by the owner) but once the gates to Villa San Marco opened, we actually gasped at the beautiful gardens and animals waiting for us! The friendly family's son greeted us with a map of the temples and a beautiful personalised print out, and showed us to our rustic huge room with its own patio! We immediately jumped in the amazing pool, as it was such a hot day, and purchased some of their wine (amazing selection, not expensive) and enjoyed the garden until it got dark! The dogs were so loveable and friendly, especially the new puppy, we couldn't stop petting them! The view of the temples was truly awe-inspiring and beyond our expectations!! We ordered pizza as recommended (its an easy drive into town but you won't want to leave once you are at the Villa!) and it was one of the best pizzas ever (seafood). Wow. We fell asleep to the sound of crickets and the odd peacock noise... never wanted to leave! Will definitely be returning to Sicily just to see this place again! Stay a week! Best way to find it is to find the St Nicola Church next to the museum and turn down that dirt road on its right! Thats all you need to know.

Room Tip: Every room looked fabulous, but room 1 has its own patio, picnic table and is furthest from the pool...
