“Great wines, great food and very affordable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2011

... it was already 2pm when we droped in to ask if we still could have lunch. No problema - we were seated and had one of the most amazing long lunches with a couple of the best Barolo's (one of them a Monprivato) cheaper on their wine list then in the wine shop in Barolo!!! The son of the family owned restaurant was serving us a feast. Fantastic pasta, Vitello tonnato and some wonderful mains and desserts... It was better than all the best rated restaurant in Alba and we just had to go back the next evening for dinner and were not disappointed. A delicous dinner with a couple of fine wines (good we were four people...) one of them a "Luciano Sandrone 2004". I was enquiring what "Burrata" meant and our waiter (again the son of owners) tried to explain in English and Italian but after some misunderstandings came back with a "google" print out! What a service!!! Of course I ordered the Burrata and it was wonderful - its a kind of Mozzarello from Puglia and sooo good. The owners are originaly from Puglia we learned. After our primi piatti's we had all some great mains and then desserts on top of it. There were five desserts on the menu and we would have loved to try them all. After much debating four dessert were ordered and guess what - the mother hearing our battle to decide came with the fifth dessert, compliments of the house!!! Well, it doesn't agree with a weight watcher diat but hey -who cares when in Italy.... Its always worth to be humble and make an effort to appreciate and compliment great food and attentive service. It comes back a thousend time. For us the best restaurant in Alba and we will be back. Tanti Auguri and mille grazie!

“Bad Servise”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2010

This is by far the most disappointing night for us.Hotel made a booking for us, somehow , they didnot have record our name, restaurant was not busy, felt not really welcomed, they had big group booking.
finally we accept get into the restaurant.
we order the braised veal with baloro wine.
it was so tough as shoes leather!
only good point is wine is reasonable price for good wines.

I 'd rather go to Enoclub

“You'll be glad for the bread”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2010

Despite its clean and tasteful decor, there was a distinct lack of atmosphere – the lighting was far too bright and there was an unnatural hush, with no chatter (or music to hide the silence). The service was polite, and the food was generally tasty enough but portions were TINY – that explains why they kept coming round with more bread. The guinea fowl was mediocre and came with only a tiny portion of veg – potatoes or similar might have made it an actual meal. The desert came with a little smudge of tasty custard that was just mean – not sure the point of that other than to tease. Afterwards I couldn't help feeling we'd been conned.

“A standard to measure others by”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2010

El Arco has somehow got a disproportionate reputation as a fantastic place. What it is is a Very Good Piemontese restaurant. Expect just that and you will not be disappointed.

We had a dinner menu which started with a perfectly seasoned carne cruda, and a delicious cold roast pepper and anchovy dish. The past course was very well done with a classic butter and sage sauce. I had a perfectly cooked roast rabbit, and my wife had veal braised in Barolo, both also classic, and perfectly prepared. The dessert was a simple panna cotta, but was a real highlight, served simply with fresh red fruit.

Perfect Piemontese cuisine. Not Michelin star, but very good. Only one complaint. They could turn down the bright lighting a bit...
