“A Very Good Small Hotel”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

Our party of eight adults was looking for a small inexpensive hotel in southern Tuscany with good access to the Autostrada so we could make the best use of our time. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. The rooms were a bit small, but very clean. Since the hotel is new, the soundproofing is excellent. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent and included an endless supply of espresso drinks made to order. The hotel staff was very helpful with recommendations for local things to see and restaurants to visit. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a modern, spotless, inexpensive place to stay in southern Tuscany. Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienzo, and Siena are all short drives away. And we were delighted to discover the stunning Arezzo cathedral just a few minutes away.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet due to excellent soundproofing.

One night in Vicus Major on our trip to Calabria. Nice place, nice rooms, nice people. Place is about 500 metres from autostrada and you cant miss it.

Amazing breakfast - a lot of food.

Everything was perfect, we can recommend.

I`ve stayed at Vicus Major just for 1 night and all I can say is : It`s a great place , recently renovated, with friendly staff and great service. It`s a little bit outside of Arezzo, but it takes 5min by car to get to the city center. The hotel has a big free parking zone and a free wi fi.
Breakfast was excellent - with real italian espresso! In summary, i highly recommend th Vicus Major!

We're struggling to understand the enthusiasm of other reviewers and why it's so high on the list of recommendations. The hotel is modern and functional, our room was bright, fairly spacious and clean and the bed large and comfortable. The staff, as has been commented, were very pleasant and helpful and the price was reasonable.

That's fine but it's as far as it goes!

The hotel is situated on a sort of industrial estate outside Arezzo and our room overlooked what looked like a warehouse. Although it was quiet at night, work began very early in the morning. However we were already awake because the people in the room downstairs were awake and we could hear them moving around, talking, opening their window, flushing their loo ..... The walls are very thin. It was very convenient to be able to park at the hotel but we still had to take our car into Arezzo as the last bus back to the hotel is at 19.30 and it is NOT a short walk, as one reviewer maintained. In fact the receptionist told us that a taxi back would cost around €25. Given the price of the room we wouldn't normally have expected much of the breakfast, but we were disappointed because a couple of reviewers had particularly commented on how good it was. I admit we're not fans of Italian breakfasts, but it consisted largely of various rather dry cakes, bread that (strangely) had to be toasted in a George Foreman style grill, jams, sliced boiled ham (not what I imagine from the description 'cold meats') and sliced cheese (one sort). A final irritation was that the free wi-fi could only be used on one device. Once my husband had logged on, I wasn't able to and the kind receptionist was unable to get a second code for me.

As the title said ~ an incredibly friendly hotel !

We stayed here late April '12 while touring Unbria and Tuscany bay car and its ideal for that kind of thing. If visiting Arezzo theres a huge free car park to the north of the old town with an escallator up so staying out of towns not a problem if you have a car. Also we thought it far better value than a City Centre hotel.

On arrival reception was very friendly and efficient - wonderfull English spoken. Room is clean and comfy, nice LCD TV and the wifi not only works well but you get one code from reception which will work throughout your stay (Unlike so many who keep expiring which is a pain),

We got back from town late and there was the option to buy some little snacks which was a life saver - again v friendly.

Breakfast was good - and this was what stuck in the mind - of all the hotels we stayed in while touring this one was the only one where someone actually wished us good morning and made us a coffee ~ and asked us if we would like a refill later on. Outstanding service.

In summary thoroughly reccomend the Vicus Major. If only all Itallian hotels had this level of customer service !

We picked this hotel after reading the other reviews on Tripadvisor and must say it was a good choice; the hotel had been recently renovated and the room looked quite nice. On the downside the hotel lies a little bit in the outskirts of Arezzo so it's ideal if you have a car, I'm not sure whether there is a bus service.

Nice, clean, sparkling new, friendly place by the Highway near Arezzo. Trade off proximity for quality at an unbeatable price.
Staff made up for a just failed elevator with help in carrying luggage and a room in a low floor.
Breakfast coulkd have been a little better though.
