“most amazing villa on earth!”
Reviewed 11 September 2011 for a stay in August 2011

there were 13 of us at Villa Carda and so much room for everyone. The bedrooms were so beautiful- even the smallest was similar to a top 5* boutique hotel. The wholw property was immaculate and so clean. The wellness centre has been built to the highest standard, and the huge garden led out to spectacular open ended views. Andrea and his father were attentive but un-obtrusive, and the cook that we had for 2 nights created the most fantastic meals which we all enjoyed- plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day! A truly magical place- will definitely return.

“What a brilliant villa”

We stayed at the Villa Carda for 2 weeks in August having booked it over 12 months in advance based on fabulous reviews and great pictures. The reality outweighed the anticipation - what a brilliant place, great views, great house and great venue.
We made the most of the place - especially the pool and pool area - plus the occasional stroll in the grounds.
Visited Cortona (steep climb but great views); Siena (what a great place); Poppi (so pretty); Florence (v. hot and book venues in advance) and Arezzo (a favourite for food and drink). Bibbiena is best for supermarket shopping; Rassina has a few little shops.
Our advice - make the most of the villa as it is superb and Andrea and Antonio are great hosts. Our other advice - don't fly in via Florence we were delayed 6 hours on the way back as the winds were in the wrong direction and it was hot!!!

“If you don’t rent this villa, it’ll be your loss!”
Reviewed 2 September 2011 for a stay in July 2011

Our group of twelve (3 families of four including 6 teenagers) recently came back from Italy where we stayed at Villa Carda for a week. Words are hard to describe this place but “Fantastico!”, “Eccelente!” and “Magnifico!” quickly come to mind.

This place is unbelievable. The setting is absolutely beautiful, the property is gorgeous and manicured (they come around and clean the pool daily and make sure everything is fine!). Trust me...the pictures (as beautiful as they are) do not render justice. This place is even better than the pictures show.

Rooms are all beautiful and can easily accommodate 12 people (I suspect you could even squeeze a few more if needed). The villa is very clean and has that rustic charm which all of us absolutely loved. The health center was a total hit with the teenagers!

If you plan to go to Tuscany...this is the place to stay! It’s a bit removed from the large cities but that’s what made the location even better in my mind. From there we easily made day trips to cities and regions such as Florence, Sienna, Arezzo, Cortona, Chianti, and San Gimignano so it certainly isn’t too far.

Not to be overlooked is the kindness of Andrea and his father Antonio. They were perfect hosts. While we didn’t spend much time with them, our encounters were always extremely pleasant and helpful as they provided a few pointers of where to go based on what we wanted to do.

I could go on and on and still feel that my review wouldn’t do justice. We would recommend this place to everyone (and we’ve already started doing so!). As I state in the title.......if you don’t rent this place...it’ll be your loss.

Listen...the only knock on this place is that there are so many beautiful places to see and visit nearby that you won’t be able to enjoy the villa as much as you would like! That’s exactly what happened to us.

Our group was unanimous......every single one of us would go back in a heartbeat.

“Had we known the property would be so beautiful and the owners so gracious, we would have stayed a second week.”
Reviewed 29 August 2011 for a stay in June 2011

Our group of 13 stayed at Villa Carda for a perfect week in Tuscany. The weather was warm and the grounds spectacularly cared for. We travelled with 5 adults and 8 children, 6 of them teenage boys. Not one moment of boredom at this property. We swam, hit golf balls, played ping pong on the marble table, played frisbee & soccer on the huge lawn. We were so busy with group activities that we only used the spa once even though all equipment was top of the line. The villa itself has been attentively restored. The rooms are large, beautifully decorated and the beds comfortable. We ate most meals outside on the stone porch. We drank espresso outside in the mornings watching the sun come up. The countryside views are breathtaking. From Villa Carda we made day trips by train to Rome & Florence. We drove to Siena. Our close-by gem was the town of Cortona. Make sure to arrive in the daylight ~ it is private enough to be hard-to-find in the dark.

“Lovely villa in beautiful grounds”
Reviewed 25 August 2011 for a stay in August 2011

VIlla Carda is a beautiful looking villa set within 4/5acres ofgrounds with an unobstruted view of the Tuscan hills. There are many plus points for the villa and only a few negatives or even perhaps picky points to make.
On the plus side
All bedrooms ensuite and decorated to a high standard, all bathrooms super clean and plenty of hot water.
Outside eating terrace really lovely, ate most meals here, although did need to carry extra table up to terrace from garden to seat thirteen people but no issue.
KItchen fairly well equipped just a little lacking in preparation areas but used the kitchen table rather than have anyone eat there.
Pool kept clean with aid of trusty pool robot and cover each night and shaded area at far end of pool a welcome releif from the mid day sun.
Garden huge, and hilly, sloping down away from villa. plenty big enough to practise golf swings, play football and walk/run pretty large laps around inside perimetre.
Paid €40 per head for 4course meal prepared at the villa by local lady and her assistant and it was really good, especially the starters and homemade pasta courses. They were very happy to accomodate two of us who wanted fish not meat for main course so all were happy that night and no washing up!
There is a small wine celler that you can purchase from, however we bought our wine from the supermarkets as there was obviously more choice.
Antonio the owner and his son Andrea who runs the business are very friendly and welcoming.
Ok picky points...
The pool was a little cold and perhaps made even cooler when it was topped up for a few hours mid week with freezing mains water. this didn't stop the kids going in the pool the day after but they didn't stay in too long!
We hadn't expected the owners to visit the villa daily, this didnt bother me personally but a few of our party found this a little intrusive and thought maybe every other day might have been better.
The spa area was new, however the jacuzzi although meant to be for four people could only take two without overflowing and even with two people seem to leak needing towels to mop up the water. Also it did cost €50 for the electricity for the spa and perhaps this as a good will gesture should be included in the rental price.
The villa in August did get very warm inside as there are no fans, infact we bought two stand up fans for €18 each at the excellent Ipercoop in Arezzo and left them at the villa for future guests to use. Also there is a pretty good size coop in Bibbiena that is closer than driving back to Arezzo for supplies.
WE got two scorpians in the master bedroom downstairs, Antonio assured us they were harmless and it was easy to dispose of them. Tip, scorpians hate lavender and Antonio has masses of lavender growing in his garden so we spread it over the bathroom floors and no more scorpians and beautiful smelling bathrooms!!!
So all in all, we would love to stay at Villa Carda again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from a busy life and wake up to beautiful scenery every morning.

Management Response
12 Sep 2011
Thank you for the nice review about my villa! I really appreciate that you have dedicated some of your personal time to write it. I'm sorry you are not totally satisfied about some points, especially when you refer to my presence at the villa. I know how much important is the privacy for our guests. For this reason i try to limit at minimum my presence (1-2 hours at maximum in the early morning). The nice and well curated park in Villa Carda requires a lot of attentions. Also the swimming pool requires some attention in order to be always clean. These are the reasons of my minimal presence at the villa. Yes, when the water level is too low and i have to add some new and fresh water the temperature in the swimming pool is not properly warm, but only for few hours.
Anyway thanks again for your review and tips.

“Luxury 5* villa in beautiful Tuscan countryside”
Reviewed 17 June 2011 for a stay in May 2011

I booked this villa for my family as it was good value for a 6 bedroom villa (compared to other parts of Tuscany) and had excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. Each of the bedrooms were individually styled and the bathrooms were modern & contemporary with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. Because of the design of the house, each couple had their own privacy which was perfect when together for a week. The gardens were well-kept and huge, perfect for the kids to run around safely and explore. The pool was a hit with all of us, and we were lucky to have amazing weather for the whole week to make use of it. The villa even has a wellness centre which we would probably have used more had the weather not been as sunny! Finally, but by no means least, the owners were lovely. Andrea and his father Antonio went out of their way to make our stay perfect. We would go back in a second if given the opportunity!
