My family and I have travelled all over Europe and Castello Val di Colle will be a stand-out memory that we will talk about for the rest of our lives. Vacations are supposed to be relaxing and EVERYTHING about Castello Val di Colle eliminates stress and creates laughter. Each day after our Tuscany tour we would look forward to going "home to family" because that is what Castello Val di Colle became to us. It is the complete package: fantastic accommodations that make you feel like you are in your own Tuscan villa, freshly squeezed juices and brewed coffees paired with a sensational breakfast spread (eat the fresh sausage!), a creative chef that offers a delightful nightly menu in a beautiful five star setting but more than that it is the hospitality of the owners and staff that made this vacation one we will never forget. Renee became a friend before I ever arrived, assisting with so many suggestions to make our trip just perfect. Giovanni greeted us as we arrived from our excursions each day with a glass of wine and a great interest in our experiences. In fact, it is a place where everyone smiles, guests and staff alike. Enjoy the amazing views and sunsets off the terrace - eat your breakfast there or sip your afternoon wine. OR go to the pool and enjoy those phenomenal views (see picture) OR relax in the hot tub OR take a walk up the Roman Road to the new driving range and see the view from the top of the mountain while hitting a few golf balls (see my picture). And let me tell you about the bedrooms: My pet peeve is a bedroom that will not get dark. These bedrooms are fantastic! When the shutters close, it is perfecto! Dark, quiet, cool and the best night's sleep ever!
You can go to so many places with such ease: Cortona, Montepulciano, Siena, Assisi, Arezzo and, of course, the Prada outlet. (I do recommend a GPS. The cars go fast and roundabouts require a quick decision about where to turn!) Even Florence is only a short train ride away and Arezzo is such a nice place to stay rather than the noisy city and a sterile hotel. Our family also learned to make fresh pasta from Julio one afternoon. After eating it that night, we have decided that we are actually great cooks and will be making fresh pasta for our big Thanksgiving dinner! (see picture)
When we were supposed to depart, my family and I decided that we would forego our next stop in Lucca and stay at Castello Val di Colle for two more nights. Why leave when you have already found the best? So we had 9 happy days and nights with our new-found Italian family: Giovanni, Renee, Caleb, Gretchen, Katarina, Julio and Christina! You are the BEST and we promise to come back again.
I told Renee before I came that I was looking to experience history on this visit and she promised I would not be disappointed in Castello Val di Colle. You were SO RIGHT! Grazie to the Palleggi family!
