We stayed 4 nights at Haus Valentin in July as part of the Collett's self-guided walking holiday we booked. What a great experience and we loved the concept of sharing office hour and the evening meal with other like-minded guests. The chalet set up ensures lots of interaction among people and Colletts has numerous helpful maps, organized walks, and ideas to set people off on whatever great nature adventure they want. We did a 4 day hut to hut walk (booked by Colletts) and 2 Via Ferrata routes and thoroughly enjoyed everything. We will definitely do another holiday like this. Haus Valentin is a comfortable chalet, rooms aren't big, wifi is flaky, and Badia is a tiny town so a car is an advantage if staying at this chalet. Corvara offers more town facilities for those that would prefer a chalet in a bigger centre (Collett's has chalets in both locations).

This place is used exclusively by Collett's Mountain Holidays and to use it you will need to book on one of their holidays. It is a great place for meeting like minded hikers, climbers, mountaineers and other outdoors people. Staff are all uber-enthusiastic and jack's of all trades dong everything from leading walks to waiting table and cleaning rooms. The place is run almost like a family get together - including help-yourself honesty bar. It is probably a step up from a mountain refuge but not quite a hotel in terms of standards of food, accommodation etc. but is ideally set up for what it does (drying rooms etc.) and very convenient to the local town where there are bars, cafes etc. Views from the terrace are fabulous. Food is good and plentiful with the emphasis on communal dining - which is great for meeting new people and swapping tales of derring-do in the mountains. Car park can be a juggling act but as most people go out more or less at the same time each morning this is not a big problem.

Room Tip: Top (4th) floor rooms are in loft and have sloping roofs - avoid if tall! Also, elevator only goes t...

This is the third time I've been skiing and stayed at Haus Valentin and my sixth holiday with Colletts do about time I did a review. They are excellent at what they do. The staff are friendly, professional and strike the perfect balance to ensure great service and a warm welcome. I can't name everybody but Dan, Flea, George, Emma, Emily all deserve special mentions over the last couple of years. I have stayed at most of the Colletts chalets and I think HV offers the best balance. The food is fantastic local cuisine, the bar is very comfortable, the rooms are comfortable, the view is unbelievable and the local ski and walking area is brilliant as it is just out of the main area so you can get better quality and fewer people. I'm already booked for next year.

Run by Colletts Mountain Holidays, a British company with mostly British guests but also attracting international clients. You need to go to their website to understand their full programme. This was my third visit at the haus, the last being three years ago, and they have always been in winter season to take in the skiing and snowshoeing activities. And, this is why holidays here are great for couples / friends who do not always share the same activities but can still partake in them, meet new friends, and feel safe in a superb environment. It is of course dependant on `the crowd` that are there and generally it is made up of couples and small groups of friends. My advise would be, if you don`t want to socialize then stay away. I ski, my wife snowshoes, so it is ideal to bring two groups together and all have a great time in the bar afterwards. P.S. very occasionally a large group can book and you can feel a little left out at the beginning of the week trying to `infiltrate` their social group, so if this bothers you, check with Colletts.
As for the haus, it is clean and well maintained. Meals are taken in the dining room which has large social seating tables ( no sitting on your own here ). There is no choice at dinner but food is generally good and there is plenty. Breakfast has improved over the years and now has a decent array of fruit, cereals, and continental fayre including now a hot option. Rooms are comfortable and provide plenty of hot water at any time of the day. As mentioned the bar / lounge area is excellent and this where you will spend most of your time. The young (mainly) British staff are a credit to the company who look after all your needs in a mature and proficient way and although they change on a regular basis, Colletts are successful at replacing to a high standard for another season. The haus itself along with the catering is run by the Italian owners which helps bond the partnership with Colletts and their team of staff. All you need now is the weather !!

Room Tip: Rooms at front have the view, but all are o.k. and in this environment you will not be staying long...

We stayed at HV in Jan 2014, clean comfortable room but was at the rear of the hotel do the view was limited. Great winter walking a brief cable car ride away with clearly marked routes to follow. Eating at HV was a different experience to our previous holidays, no choice of menu but good honest food served with wine by your chalet hosts who make every effort to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We a going to book again as this holiday was brilliant !!

Room Tip: Get a room at the front if possible

Wow, wow and wow again!!!! My friend and I have just returned from a week at Haus Valentin and experienced one of the best holiday's ever.

Haus Valentin is used as a ski lodge in the winter and for walking holidays in the summer. It's about a three-hour drive from the Venice airports and although there are quite a few hairpin bends towards the end, it's an easy drive and very scenic once off the motorway (you can pay for a transfer if you wish but a car is handy while you're in Badia).

The lodge is very comfortable, with adequate sized rooms, a lovely bar area with a friendly atmosphere and a dining area designed to encourage people to chat and generally enjoy each other's company.... and the whole place is kept spotlessly clean by the staff!

The whole place has a clean, welcoming friendly feel that is enhanced by the superb team of hosts.

Each evening at 6:00pm the team tell you about the walks and activities planned for the next day so that you can choose the most suitable for your abilities and interests (I discovered that I don't have any painting ability at all!!!). You can also order packed lunches for the following day if needed. Then at 7:00pm it's dinner - always three courses with plenty of red and white wine for the drinkers. The food is delicious - nothing fancy, but great, freshly cooked, yummy stuff!

All the walks are joined by at least one member of the team of hosts with 'experts' on the flower walks. Every walk was superb in its own way whether for the flowers, views or just sheer enjoyment (best apple strudel ever!).

However, what really transformed my holiday from a great time in to an experience that couldn't be beaten were the five hosts. Alice, Kelly, Jarrod, Jack and Charlie were all just amazing. Each and every one of them go beyond the call of duty to make you feel welcome, at home and with friends.

Alice has the cheeriest smile you'll ever come across and lights up the room, Jack is soooo cool he's bound to star in a Hollywood film one day. Charlie is ultra professional and very impressive all round. Jarrod is a great guy and fabulous company. Kelly .... well Kelly is not only a remarkable person but so lovely that you just want the walks with her to continue for ever.

Thank you all soooo much for everything you did - and for putting up with my photography all week!!!

I can't recommend this holiday highly enough - it's just the best!

A group of six of us has just returned from the Dolomites after a great holiday made special by Dan and his team (Sarah, Flee, Rick, Charlie and Terry) who could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The first day skiing with Dan meant that we had a very good idea of the pistes and refuggios for the rest of the week.

The chalet is a bus ride from the lifts so not ideal but the shuttle bus was always on time.

The ambiance was friendly, the food good, the rooms spacious and warm with comfortable beds. We would happily return.

Thanks again!!
