“An excellent stay at a beautiful location”
Reviewed 8 December 2011

Vela d'Oro is a nice, cozy hotel on the shores of lake Garda. The location s great, just by the pier of Cisano. Cisano itself is a quiet place halfway between Bardolino and Lazise, two beautiful villages within walking distance from Cisano (~20m). While Bardolino and Lazise have much more to see than Cisano itself, they are also more busy and crowded, making Cisano an excellent compromise location. Some boats of the regular Garda service stop in the pier just in front of the hotel, making the boat service an excellent option to visit some emblematic places on the south of Garda (namely Sirmione, which is just about 30/40m away by boat), and avoiding the often crowded roads around the lake shore.

Vela d'Oro itself is a small and cozy hotel. It is hard to find one negative point about this hotel. Of course, this is a family type hotel and not a 5 star unit. But the staff is friendly, the service is excellent and efficient, the location and view over the lake are great, the garden and swimming pool are fantastic and the private parking quite convenient. The breakfast is continental type but it is great, with a good option of cheese, ham, rolls, croissants, cereals, yoghurts and eggs, making it more than reasonable. A single minor point about the breakfast is the lack of fresh fruit, which is mostly (all?) canned. The service in the breakfast room is also worth a quite positive reference: while we have been here for one week at the high season and the hotel was reasonably crowded, the breakfast tables were permanently clean and ready to be used. The time between the the guests leaving and the table being is renewed was minimal, avoiding the messy feeling that one often experiences in breakfast rooms at peak hours.

Our room was brand new and fitted with air conditioned, a ceiling fan, a fridge and a large balcony with one table and chairs and amazing views over the lake. It would be impossible to ask for more. A minor negative point goes for the douche cabin, which is a little bit on the small side.

On the lake shore just near the hotel there is a good assortment of restaurants with beautiful lake views at a quite affordable price, therefore there is plenty of eating options around. Given the number of good options around, we never experienced the hotel restaurant, which was slightly more expensive.

In short, Vela d'Oro is a fantastic and cozy place to stay. Congratulations to Caroline and all her staff for providing an excellent service in such an amazing place.

We stayed here for a week bed and breakfast. It's approximately 25 minutes walk to Bardolino centre. The pool is in a lovely setting. The staff were helpful and friendly. We booked direct via email and got a reasonable rate for a triple room with balcony on the roof terrace. The air con in the room could have been a bit cooler as temperatures while we were there were 32 degrees and the air con was set at 17.5. We would definitely return to this hotel should we return to Lake Garda. There was a local carnival weekend when we arrived with good live music entertainment within walking distance. There is a bus stop outside the hotel and you can catch the ferry at the jetty at a couple of times during the day. Bardolino and Lazise are within walking distance so this is a great base. There are a few places to eat alongside the hotel, all reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony on the lakeside to get a room with a lovely view

Well I arrived - first question was "why 2 of you in 3 bed room", I explained fully booked and Hotels.com offered this. Not true the owner stated and promptly gave me a room for 2 and a cheaper price, he advised to book direct as the booking agencies want their commission, Great start as this gave me and extra €100 to spend on ourselves!!!

Hotels.com stated the Hotel was in Bardolino its not - its in Cisano a nice 30 minute lake sidewalk to to the centre of Bardolino, may bit a bit far for the less fit / infirmed

Room excellent 3 star was the right rating, great pool and gardens secluded 50m from the hotel.
Night cap at the bar was also to be recommended

Down sides, breakfast could be better tinned fruit and same selection of meat and cheese / bread every morning, Italy can do better than this, also I think all Hotels 3* should have WiFi, get this right and i would give 5/5 rating

Room Tip: inside balcony better as some times have night stall on the outside of the hotel

A really smart, clean hotel perfectly situated on the lake with the Cisano ferry jetty right in front of the hotel. The staff are warm and friendly. The room was good althougth I understand if you get a room on the road side it can be noisey, this was not a problem for us. It is about a 20 min walk into Bardolino, arround 3/4 hour to Verona and 11/2 hours to Venice. there are local vineyards close by which you can visit. We visited Zeni which had an interesting museum and free wine tasting. We toured the lake visiting Malchesine, Limione, where they filmed the begining of the James Bond film Quantam of Solace, so nice to drive the road and imagine. The boat trips arround the lake are wonderfull went to Maderno and Sirmione where a power boat race was being held. At the front of the hotel on the lake are a range of restraunts with views and sunsets it would be hard to beat anywhere in the world. Especially good are la Densa and Al Germano.
Extra pluses Wi- fi and free secure parking. Swimming pool is located about 100 yards from the hotel.
Would I come here again, most definitly and especially to see Aida performed at the Roman arena in Verona an absoulte must.

Room Tip: Get a room lakeside avoid being on the road

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in July 2011. It's right on the lake shore and offers stunning views if you manage to get a bedroom looking out onto the lake - many come with a private balcony. There is a lovely swimming pool, gardens and a tennis court about 200 metres away from the hotel which is a great place to spend a lazy day. Staff excellent and speak many languages. Highly recommended.

This is a lakefront hotel with gorgeous views of Lake Garda which is just steps away (about 30 feet). Direct access to the beach is nearby.
There is a rooftop terrace with tables/chairs/lounges with a beautiful view of the yacht harbor on Lake Garda. Our room opened onto a terrace that led to the shared terrace. Several beachfront restaurants within a few steps of the hotel. Close by, bicycles and motorcycles can be rented. Free private parking. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. In fact, I left some important papers including maps and hotel confirmations in the room and didn't discover it until we were well on our way to Florence. Vela d'Oro mailed the documents to our hotel in Rome and everything was waiting for us upon our arrival. They did not charge us for the postage which was much appreciated. We can't say enough about their service and we will definitely stay here again.

Went to lake garda in Sept. for 4 nights what an amazing place. Hotel is in an excellent location overlooking the lake, so peaceful. It is approx. a 20 minute walk into Bardolino. Lots of ducks and swans in the lake. Breakfast was included and it was basic but fine. We did not eat in hotel in evening. The pool is about a 3 min walk from hotel in an elevated position overlooking the lake. Very well done in a park setting - the girl who was the lifeguard carried out all duties and she was wonderful. But the pool was soo
cold. There are no beaches here just jetty's and very little stone beach which is tiny. Weather very mixed. There is a Church across the road from hotel and the bell goes on the hour every hour even during the night - but you get use to it. We hired a car great for getting around and sight seeing.
Please note that you must leave in plenty of time for Airport as the traffic in the evening going towards Milan is unreal - we left 4.5 hours before our flight and arrived when flight was boarding the traffic was bumper to bumper - so be ware. Enjoy this wonderful romantic peaceful place - we will definately return.
