I fell in love with Bolsena on this trip! And since I walked the town on foot for several days I really felt that Hotel Holiday was the best choice. It's location on the lake was beautiful. Near bike rentals. A 5 minute walk into the main town. Well tended gardens. A good sized pool. Reasonably priced. Clean. And the hotel staff were so helpful! You want to ask for Edie if you go because she has great ideas on activities you might be interested in and really good directions too. Can't wait to travel out there again!

I stayed here with my wife and mother-in-law in June 2012 and we all loved it. The hotel is small but has a good-sized pool and well-tended gardens which are ideal for relaxation. Bolsena itself is a fairly quiet resort (as we prefer) and this hotel is particularly peaceful, located just across from the lake, a pleasant walk to either the medieval town or to the small set of lakeside cafes.

The food in the hotel was good (and the various pastas the best I've ever tasted) but the hotel's best feature was its staff and the excellent service they offered...from willing Mara and Hilaria on Reception to the ever-capable Edie over-seeing the dining room (plus assorted gardeners/handymen who doubled-up as charming waiters when required).

A first-class family-run hotel where nothing was too much trouble for the staff who seemed truly dedicated to ensuring you had everything you needed for a wonderful holiday...we certainly did, thanks!

Room Tip: I wish we'd booked rooms with balconies over-looking the lake (our only regret)

We had a very relaxing stay at the end of the main tourist season. The hotel was generally not very full, and the town very quiet of an evening, so it would possibly be better to stay a couple of weeks earlier. Our room, on first floor, (number 101) was nicely decorated and spacious, and had a large balcony furnished with table and 4 chairs, complete with lovely full front lake view.

We experienced a little disruption to sleep of an evening which is mostly due to people in the 2nd floor rooms using the bathroom etc. For light sleepers it would be best to have a second floor room eg. 201,202 which also have front lake views.

We had half board, booking through Inghams, and enjoyed most meals. Edie, who served us in the restaurant most nights was very helpful, and made alterations to the menu on several occasions when we struggled with the choices. We would have liked a choice of dessert, but this was not given. The final course was always a suprise, as it was never stated on the menu, which we thought a little unusual.

Breakfast was fine, standard continental, plus cakes, with eggs done to order. We particularly enjoyed the hot cappuccinos and pain au chocolates.

Bolsena town itself (10-15 mins walk) is beautiful and has a lovely medieval old town, complete with castle. There is a small public boat service that at this time of year will probably only run on Sundays, as there must be minimum 15 people for it to operate. The 1 hour roundtrip out to the island of Bisentia is lovely.

Public transport we found a bit limited, so we were glad to have the Inghams excursions to Rome and and Lake tour, which were both exceptional due to our fantastic Inghams rep. Gala.

Room Tip: For quiet room and front lake view, 201, 202. for best lake views 101,102

Visited Lake Bolsena in september 2012. Fantastic location on the sea front. Staff in reception were helpful and service minded. The host in the dining room was top value, and she was around for breakfast and dinner with good recommendations. The hotel organised lunch at the pool site on a short notice. The city is excellent for a walk through Italian history. The shoreline gave plenty of operations for a nice walk. The bed was a bit too hard for me and I would have preferred another pillow. The room we had ordered was small, with a great view. Hotel moved us to the larger room next door with similar views.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the lake have a fantastic view

This was a great hotel in a great location. The staff were extremely helpfull and friendly, especially Mara on the reception and Edie in the restaurant, she was calm, efficient and knowledgeble, a little treasure.
The food in the hotel was very good, the evening meals had plenty of choice and beautifully presented, and breakfast had a very good choice including fresh fruit.
The short walk to the town is easy and pleasant taking perhaps 15 to 20 minutes, and to explore the towns cobbled streets, a must.
Highly recommended, and would return without doubt.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel have a gread view of lake, and covered balcony, however the lights o...

Magical setting on the edge of the lake, with absolutely superb views.
The edge was taken off our stay by the Officious instructions - strictly forbidden to take room towels to pool - need to rent or buy! And the need to wear a cap in the pool -available €4!
Otherwise the hotel is fine. Make sure you make the effort to walk around the old town.

We had simply a lovely visit at Hotel Holiday. The views of the lake are perfect, food was great, and the service (especially Edie, a beautiful woman who took such good care of us) impeccable. Everyone was so eager to serve and provide all the resources we needed. It is a perfect location for walking and the gorgeous old city and castle on the hill is a great place to walk and investigate. I would highly recommend this Hotel and Bolsena.
