Review of Stelvio Pass

Stelvio Pass
Reviewed 8 June 2014

have ridden the pass many times , love the place try and ride early morning so the pass is not glogged up by cars !! the temperature can be quite chilly at the top early morning so dress warm . the food stands are very expensive so eat before you go up.
the ride is very challenging but so rewarding , big old v twins are great for this leave her in second or third and just gun it around the hairpins on the way up and on the way down try not to brake too much ,did have a mate on a gsxr overheat his brakes.

Went here with a bunch of petrol heads in magical cars as part of a driving holiday. The pass is amazing, takes your breath away. Don't come here expecting to drive quickly as the drive up and down is littered with cyclists and bikers, and of course the hairpin turns. Nevertheless, a must do.

You have to do the Granfondo Stelvio Santini 2015 cycle sportive. I have just done the 'long route' 2014 event (1st June 2014) and it is totally nuts!

Stay at the Hotel Funivia - it has to be the best cyclist hotel ever - see my review - and go with Dudley Samuels on 5034 Events if you want everything organised for you.
This is not an advert, I am just a bike rider who had a great time.

The Motoriolo, which you climb before the Stelvio, was described by Lance Armstrong as the hardest climb he had ever done (drugs or no drugs, that's me saying that, not Lance) and then you do the mighty Stelvio climbing up into the snow.

It's bizarre, as you churn upwards in your Summer kit to see someone skiing down the other way! It's all brilliantly organised, and Bormio is a delightful town to be in.

Do it!!!!

Friend and i very much enjoyed riding this pass made more famous by top gear it was one of the highlights of our epic first alps mega tour that we did on a honda vtx 1300 and a kawasaki ninja 600, you must go do this road its awesome as is most of north italy actually, there are food places on the pass if you want to hang around and enjoy the view, we stayed in bormio the night before and all night were excited about what was going to come the next morning and it didnt disappoint either, did a couple of other mountain passes too on our tour but this one was my favourite. save up your pennys and get don there! silvretta high alpine pass is not far from this too, you must do that one either before or after.

Well guys and girls, if you know how to ride a motocycle than this is the place to test your skills.
BMW riders, especially boxer engines, i can say this is fantastic. But if you really want to enjoy this ride leave your other half in the hotel or shopping somewhere so you can really ride here.

Should get here at least once in lifetime!!
