The first thing I have to say: this is an amazing road!
I left Bormio on a nice Sunday evening (pretty late, it was around 4-5 PM) and headed up for the Stelvio Pass. I had seen the road many times before on TV - basically every year during il Giro d'Italia. I started the climb in sun and ended up in snow at the top, at 2,757 m above the sea level.
The real experience doesn't compare to any pictures or videos. The road itself and the panoramic views are simply breathtaking. There was not much traffic, since it was pretty late. The endless hairpins are perfect and surely can challenge every driver in the world. There were many waterfalls during the climb, on the south side.
I highly recommend it! It offers spectacular views and it is a must do, if you are visiting the Italian Alps.
