“Friendly, fun and great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

Just back from a Newmarket Holidays tour of Lake Garda, Venice and Verona. The Hotel Rely is more or less the entry price establishment for this tour, and is situated between two small hamlets on the eastern shore of the lake, about 5 miles south from Malcesine.

The location suited us well, but is a fair way from any real 'life'. But if you go to Garda to walk along a quiet promenade easily accessed from the hotel, stopping at the occasional bar, or even to dip into the water or take a boat trip, this is for you. The views are stunning and ever-changing; this part of the lake is more fjord-like than the southern shores. Although the whole lake is highly developed, this part is much less so than most, and everywhere is so "Italian" - even aspects which elsewhere might seem shabby, here they seem just laid-back and full of style.

We had a back-facing room, which was pleasantly quiet; those on the front had some traffic noise. Garden rooms are actually self-contained 'bungalows' and those staying in them were very pleased as they were very roomy, some had lake views over the hotel but they were still very quiet. Rooms generally are adequate and comfortable.

Meals are good wholesome Italian home cooking, - cold buffet breakfast and 4-course dinner - and generously portioned (often with second helpings). Drinks are fairly priced - but mineral water is pretty well compulsory with meals at E2.50/bottle. Common areas are not luxurious, and most seating is on dining-style chairs. The pool is a good size and private, unlike some local hotels with small pools right by the road or prom. One warning - pool towel hire is E2 a time, so consider packing some.

The real stars of this establishment are the owner and staff, who are ever-smiling, ever-welcoming and tireless. Piano bar evening was very enjoyable - the owner and staff taking turns to sing may sound like a dire prospect, but they have some real talent! The owner Ruggero has an amazing line in garish shirts and ties - you could run a book on the unlikely combinations.

All in all, great value, and an assuredly memorable stay in this beautiful part of Italy. The Newmarket arrangements and trips went well enough, but if you take them all, you do seem to spend too much time on coaches; but a lot is packed in and we enjoyed them all. Just be aware that Italian 'comfort stops' often involve 100 people queueing for a single loo.

There is not much more I can add to the excellent reviews this Hotel justly receives. Just be aware though that the air conditioning is switched off at the end of August and during our stay in september it was still very hot. We had to choose between keeping the balcony door open at night and suffer the traffic noise, or close it and suffer the heat. But it was all worth it for a fantastic break in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Room Tip: The lake view rooms have magnificant views but there is noise from bothe the traffic and outside bar...

We have just returned from a holiday with Newmarket Travel staying at the Rely Hotel Lake Garda. It was an excellent holiday and the hotel was great. The food was authentic Italian food and plenty of it, a nice change from the standard food served in most hotels. The facilities at the hotel where great. A good pool area with plenty of sun loungers and an excellent pool bar. Thursday evening was really good with the owner and staff singing along with a keyboard player. There was also plenty of dancing to the live music. We would like to thank all the staff at the hotel for making our stay so enjoyable. The excursions organised by Newmarket where excellent and informative and of excellent value. We will definitely be travelling again with Newmarket.

I have just got back from a week at this hotel. There is nothing that I can say to fault it. The food is excellent. We were given 5 to 6 courses each night. The hotel is spotlessly clean and there is a lovely pool with a pool bar. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner Ruggero. He also sings on a Thursday night and some of the bar staff and waitress join in. It is a typical Italian family hotel well recommended. One thing which was a disappointment was the tour operator Newmarket Holidays - we would not use them again. When we arrived in Verona there was no coach waiting for us. Also when we were leaving and arrived at Verona Airport to fly to Gatwick we were suddenly told that the flight would be going to Stansted and they would transfer us back to Gatwick where we had left our car. Very poor service.

Room Tip: We had a lake view room (36) with a balcony which was perfect.

I can concur with some of the reviews here that the staff are friendly and helpful. Also of note is that it has a good terraced swimming pool area where you can eat / drink at a bar and also play table tennis / crazy golf. Happy with room at back of hotel, I wouldn't personally go for the rooms with lake views at extra cost.

Having recently returned from a Newmarket Holidays staying here, everything was as we had wished. Direct flight from Humberside Airport, a real advantage, no large crowds or confusion, using Small Planet Airlines, despite reading elsewhere some negative comments, we found the staff friendly and helpful and a very smooth, comfortable flight. All arrangements, and trips planned by Newmarket worked well and the Trip Manager, Lyn was so efficient and helpful it added to our enjoyment. The stay at the Rely could not be criticised from the lovely room, to the rear, no view of the lake, but a little quieter without road traffic, but with a large balcony and being on the first floor, on a hill, this became the "ground" floor, leading into the garden, and path up to the pool, with it's delightful Pool Cafe, serving, drinks, and light snacks all day until late and wonderful "gilates" ....Italy is the dream place for Ice Cream!! Hotel was clean and very happy and friendly staff, could not do more for us, as well as "The Boss, sings on Thursday evening"!! A very entertaining show, and Ruggero and his staff work so hard to make everyone comfortable and ensure they are enjoying their stay. Would not hesitate to recommend the airline, the Newmarket Holiday programme, or the Hotel Rely, go and discover for yourself! (Two OAPs travelling via assisted travel but loving it all!) Lake Garda, is SO beautiful and the area lovely.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter, but there are also bungalows in the grounds

We stayed at the Hotel Rely from June 9th for 8 days - we found the hotel and the staff way above average for friendliness and helpfulness.
Our room was at the rear of the hotel and was a little small but turned out to be an advantage as the road to the front of the hotel seemed to be busy all night despite the lovely lake views!
The only slight drawback was the quality of food - whilst we did not expect English food, some of the Italian food was not cooked well. Good continental breakfast, excellent salad and soup in the evenings but eventually we were overcome by the amount of pasta !!!
BUT, so saying we would return.

Room Tip: The rooms at the rear of the hotel overlooked the hillside and pool on the next level, whilst lake v...
